Why does Trump say the U.S. needs Greenland for "national security"?

pssst! Tell them how much money Denmark pay to the people of Greenland every year. I don't think it will be so interesting then......you know how found USA are off the European welfare, right?

Greenland obviously got the same level of welfare as Denmark. As do the Faroe Islands.

Being a part of the Danish Kingdom, we are obliged to make sure that their economy is healthy. So, we pay what they lack. Last year that was: 580.120.432 dollars.

Besides that, Denmark pays for the police, military, education and other things.
- All in all.. I think it was close to 1 billion dollars last year.

But!! The Greenlanders wants their economy to grow stronger, and I fully understand that.

Luckily they are astute and rather engaged in environmental protection, so no fracking, no uranium mining and no oil drilling.

I think that they got it right.

And there are a lot of other minerals!!

I'm pretty sure Trump can't even find Greenland on a map,( which is why Vance went, at least he has an idea, and a good pilot) and to suggest he's aware of an agreement from 1941, well that's not too likely....
I heard someone suggest that he wanted it because it appeared so large on a map

But.. It got renewed in 2004, signed by Colin Powell. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Again.. That is very likely.

But if you had heard Putin comments, and how he says him and the American President thinks alike, and the he supports the American President in his endeavour to annex Greenland.

Just to mention to mention the Norwegian island Svalbard in the same breath.

I do not think it is only about what the American president wants, it might really not be that simple.

.... Oh gosh... The next 4 years are looking more and bleak.. 😳
Odds are that he won't make it to end of term. He's 78, lives on McDonald cheese burgers, is overweight, gets next to no exercise, is in a high stress job, and has pissed off 50% of the most heavily armed citizens in the world.

Yes I know. And now the nuts that want's it knows it too. :)
So let's hope that the opinion against annexing Greenland grows with this information. ;)

I am more concerned about the damage that he will make, until he is no longer president. Than I am about his person.

With this speed it is pretty unclear, what his next move will be.

I don't want to be a party pooper here, but Keith Richards still lives. :D

Good thing that no-one eyes Sweden or Denmark.. I mean, we are practically the gatekeepers to the Baltic sea.

Oh wait, Gotland had pretty prominent guests today, did they not?

You're correct to worry, the damage he's done will take decades to repair, if at all.

Throw a dart at a map on the wall, that's about a fair predictor of who and what he'll vent about on some perceived slight.

I kinda want to laugh and cry at the same time, at this post 🙈😁

Laugh, the reality is, there is nothing you or I can really do to influence where the Trump storm of stupidity will rain next.

Our wannabe Hitler wants to be just like his hero, Putin, and take over some neighboring country. Greenland and Canada look like patsies that can be had for the taking. Of course 41 million irate Canucks might be more than he can handle.

I notice he never mentions taking over Mexico. I imagine a few videos of cartel gunmen cutting off the heads of their victims with chainsaws would probably kill the appetite for glory. Mexico would make Vietnam look like a children's picnic.

We did have a silent deal with USA before we joined NATO that if we were threatened from the east, they would help us as soon as they could. Probably with people from Norway. In return we helped them to spy on Russia and didn't shoot down their military planes when they flew across our air space after some mission in the east.

Gotland is a very interesting island for the military. If you have control of Gotland you have control over the Baltic sea. Add Åland and you can imagine the rest.
So it was a visit from high ranked military people from NATO that visited Gotland today. What they did there is top secret according to the news, but I guess they talked about the defense that is growing stronger on the island.

And.. maybe some of the submarines we have been detecting in Øresund and in close range of Bornholm.

Both direct Russian, Russian shadow fleet and Chinese.

And the cable destruction.

Yup! All that too is possible.

Another thing that bothers me is that there are rapports about Russian fighters flying with their transponders off over the Baltic sea, witch means that they are more difficult for the civil flights to detect. The RAF can see them on the radar so attacks are no problems. But the risk of a collision with the civil flights are there.

Yes!!! This too. - down here in the forest, I often hear the jets flying out to give warnings to the Russians.

... For the US it is all such a theoretical situation. For us - it is right at our doorstep.

Nobody is pressuring Trump to annex Greenland. No way are the Joint Chiefs telling him it's necessary to national security.
