Super idea!!!!! That's what we should have done in 1965. Held a referendum, asked if Vietnam wanted to become a State of the US, and then offered North Vietnam the chance too.
Last week it was Canada...last weekend Panama...today? Greenland.

The American people of the time were far too racist to accept Vietnam as a state of the Union. They would not have accepted the Philippines, either.

That's not news. The Pentagon has a plan on file for every conceivable conflict. If the U.S. goes to war with Burkina Faso, they've got a plan for that.

perhaps so, as readiness is a crucial element of defense... but the saying it out loud part can only serve to anger Greenlanders and make them even more determined not to become a part of the USA. It's probable that the saying it out loud part is intentional, with the idea that it'll bully Greenlanders into cooperating with trump... it's kind of how bullies think.
Cooperate how? Short of outright annexation, he has made no demands on them at all.

Even though Greenland is highly autonomous, Denmark still has control over:- Foreign Affairs – Greenland cannot sign international treaties independently.
- Defense & Security – Denmark is responsible for military defense and national security in Greenland.
- The Currency – Greenland uses the Danish Krone (DKK).
- Financial Support – Denmark provides Greenland with an annual subsidy of about 3.9 billion DKK (€525 million), making up about 20-25% of Greenland’s economy.
What Greenland Controls:
Greenland governs most of its own domestic affairs, including:- Education & Healthcare
- Local Laws & Justice System
- Natural Resources & Economy
Most Americans have no interest in Greenland. We don't need Greenland -- the island's economy is based on fishing and mining, and the U.S. already has plenty of both.

you're right, but if trump can take by force what he thinks America (i.e himself) wants, he will. I absolutely agree your last sentence to be true.
However, Greenland does have strategic value to America so its cooperation or annexation is deemed important by this gov't.
- Strategic location: It lies on the shortest route from North America to Europe.
- US space facility: Greenland hosts a large US space facility.
- Mineral reserves: Greenland has major mineral reserves, including rare earth elements essential for technology and defense.
- China's dominance: As China dominates the global rare earth market, Greenland's reserves are of increasing interest to the US.
