As far as gun culture going back, you’re right. I recall watching Bonanza as a kid, along with a bunch of other western stuff. There was a bad ass shooting in every show. I recall Bonanza specifically as THE show that triggered my fascination with single action revolvers and lever guns. In fact, those are the only guns I have left. They are cool!

It’s a mistake to say our culture in this country hasn’t been strongly influenced by tv and movies. It totally has been. Tv and movies have more gun play today than ever and not surprisingly, gun owners are more passionate than ever.

I’ve conversed with elderly relatives and they tell me gun play wasn’t as prominent in early tv and it definitely wasn’t common in earlier movies. They also tell me every home had guns and they sat in closets like umbrellas. They were just tools, not display pieces. No one talked about 2a then. Probably because no one was attacking it then.

But that circled back to my other comment. If you want to see people dig in and fight, you attack them. You attack their beliefs. You outlaw stuff and take away their shit.

We have a 2a battle today because the left has deliberately turned 2a into a battle front for political reasons.

I don’t dig in too much on documents and original intents of the founding fathers. It’s an excellent foundation and I value those documents greatly but they were never intended to be totally inflexible. Meant to handcuff a nation for centuries to come. We can amend. We have many times since their creation and I like that it takes a massive effort to amend. It should. I agree amendments are not likely to come anytime soon.
