Most people think the whistle is from the engine supercharger. It's not. It's from air flow across the openings of the gun barrels. If you remove the guns, the whistle stops. It's very similar to how a stall warning horn works.

Funny, that's what the US military thought in Afghanistan. The US military has a pathetically poor history against entrenched guerrilla forces.

But there is a curious omission: Where are the Communists in this story? I mean the American Communists -- they do still exist, even now. One would expect the Soviets to use them as public liaisons -- even put them in charge of a new government -- that's what they did in Eastern Europe after WWII -- they handed power to any local Communists the Gestapo had not killed. At no point in Red Dawn do the Soviets appear to be making any effort to communize the areas they occupy.
