Weird inspirations

First of all, it's good to see you back and posting and starting fun threads, @EmilyMiller.

By far the no. 1 weird inspiration for one of my stories was provided by @MelissaBaby, who in late 2019 posted mention on a thread of a recent true news story in which thousands of "penis fish" -- a type of worm that happens to look a lot like a male phallus--washed up on the beach during a storm along the California coast. Naturally, I thought, "Story!" So I wrote perhaps my weirdest story, an apocalyptic horror tale in which aliens disguised as penis worms wash up on the beach with the intention of mating with human females. That one's a pride and joy for me.

I remain grateful to @MelissaBaby to this day for the inspiration!

Behind every great man there is a woman.

Thank you 😊

I have been curious to read. Will have to add to the list.

Not everybody's cup of tea, but it's short, so it's not a big time investment.

This is the story that inspired a reader to fault me for its "woke, femifascist ending." Which made me laugh.

I was just writing about Jos Whedon on the Separate the Art from the Artist thread.

It made me think about the escort agency, Emma’s Escorts, in my Angels & Demons series. I think part of the inspiration for this was the demonic lawyers of Wolfram & Hart from Whedon’s Angel.

Any strange places you get your ideas from?

I am currently taking my eighteen-year-old daughter through her first viewing of the Buffyverse. I love Wolfram & Heart in general, and Lilah Morgan in specific. The relationship between Lilah and Westley in one of the sexiest things ever put on television.

As to the original subject, as I finish my current project, I am making notes for one based on Christina Rossetti's poetry, as well a lot of the imagery from the Pre-Raphaelite movement she was part of. Sexy stuff.

Well, what I would have given to fuck Lila from Wolfram & Hart!
Even Harmony as annoying as she always was!

There is a chain of stores here in Michigan called Wild Birds Unlimited. They sell bird seed and birdhouses and books and art and tsotschkes, anything bird related. I guess they are all over the country. But there aren't any in Maine, where it seems that damn near everybody is a birder.

Every time we'd go by I mentioned how crazy it was they don't have a store in Maine. Eventually, my husband suggested I write a story about someone opening a bird store there. So, I wrote Wild Birds of Maine

Later, I found out there is a Wild Birds Unlimited in Scarborough, but that's practically North Mass down there, so fuck 'em.

One of my stories was solely based on a "Whisper" post. Not one of my best, but using that as inspiration was fun.

Besides the usual "lines from songs", looking at my story list the two that stand out are the ones inspired by discussions about 1P present and 2P POV. Also my two lowest-rated works (but the most viewed except my trio of brother-sister incest stories).

The only thing that comes to mind is a Peanuts fic I wrote inspired by Cowboy Bebop. Oh and the first novel I wrote was inspired by and shares the same name as the movie Zerophilia.

Harmony was a blast.

She played the ditsy blonde so perfectly.
Who was the female detective from season 1. The blonde woman. She was also hot. I'd group here with Lila.

Those two shows were really ahead of their time!

So many of my early younger days crushes. As much as I loved SMG, I think if I had the choice I would go for Alyson Hannigan instead. I have a huge thing for red heads.

Detective Kate Lockley, played by Elisabeth Röhm. I liked the character because they set her up as a love interest until vampires killed her dad. Rather than "oh, I can fix him," she looks at Angel and says, "I may use you, but I will never trust you." Would have been an interesting character, but they offered the actress a major gig on Law & Order and that was it.

I have a similar weakness for redheads.

Last year, my kids and wife and I went back and binged both Buffy and Angel.
Unfortunately they have way more time than I do, so I feel like for every 7 or 8 eps they watched I got to only watch 1. That kinda annoyed me. LOL!

I wish I new what it was about red heads. My wife went red for me once. Although she is natural red highlights that in the summer really come out.

TV and Movies. Are wonderful places to source interesting scenes and ideas.

Agree totally with SimonDoom:

My erotica is pretty basic. Most of my ideas come from situations I've been in where I've imagined things getting more interesting. Except for the one about summoning a demon: I've never done that.

For non erotica I get ideas out of very random places. I know it's an annoying thing to claim - I've been annoyed by it myself - but I've dreamed full stories, where I'm not at all a part of the dream, and woken up to quickly take notes before it fades from memory. One such dream will turn out to be the ending of a novel, if I can ever get around to writing the rest of it. I'm only mildly concerned that my subconscious has ripped these from other stories I've read/watched and forgotten.

I also get ideas from random shit I read, especially if there's an interesting mistake. There's one that I haven't written anything yet for but still pops to mind every now and then. It was a mistranslation from a perfume ad, which I assume contained a version of "breathtaking": "Bottle full of beautiful people suffocating." I don't know where that leads, but it's too interesting a mistake to not do something with.
