The city of Minneapolis is led by Democratic Mayor Jacob Frey. The city council is composed of 12 Democrats and one member of the Green Party.

According to the Star Tribune, thousands of businesses were damaged in the violence, with a repair price tag in the hundreds of millions.

The city's first survey of property damage shows that nearly 1,000 commercial properties in Minneapolis were damaged during the riots, including 52 businesses that were completely destroyed and 30 other locations that sustained severe damage.

Owners and insurance experts estimate the costs of the damage could exceed $500 million. That would make the Twin Cities riots the second-costliest civil disturbance in U.S. history, trailing only those in Los Angeles in 1992, which were also sparked by racial tensions with police and had $1.4 billion in damages in today's dollars.

Excellent!!

Hopefully they continue to fuck themselves until Minneapolis is making Detroit and Baltimore look good.

"The city of Minneapolis is led by Democratic Mayor Jacob Frey. The city council is composed of 12 Democrats and one member of the Green Party."

Actually, the "12 Democrats" are "12 Democrat Farm Labor (DFL)."

They reappointed the police chief in 2018 even though they all knew there were beat officers with LONG, ugly incidents in their records.

The city council, police chief, and police union were all negligent in their indifference to an obvious problem. It will all come out in a monster lawsuit, right?

Those snowflakes are going to take down their city if the Governor doesn't step in and restore sanity.

.... take down their city if the Governor doesn't step in and restore sanity.

Again, they have the right to "take down" Minneapolis.

Minneapolis has been run by the far left for 50 years. The citizens have spoken over and over with their votes. This is the government they want. Respect their decision.

The Democrat Farmer Labor (DFL) Party has complete support of the community. Let the DFL act in whatever manner they want to act. So far, it has been an epic fail by the DFL.

Agreed, as long as not one single penny of federal money is spent to rebuild their mess.

Nope because it's all Trumps fault!!!

LOL, fucking retards deserve what they got.

They and the governor took an oath to uphold the laws of the state and Constitution. How does eliminating the law enforcement arm of the community conform to that oath of office? Without enforcement there is no law, no need for courts, for jails, no support for fundamental order or the settlement of grievances, no need for a District Attorney, or the government itself. Welcome to the Thunderdome.

Agreed. This is on Minneapolis. This is not a natural disaster. This is ineptitude and negligence in operating a police department with a handful of miscreants.

It is a local decision unless they are breaking a federal or state law or their own city charter. The city leaders determine how much budget to provide law enforcement and all other services to residents and businesses. The city leaders and department heads allocate resources through whatever processes they utilizes. They could outsource to private entities. They determine zoning laws. All of this is common practice.

They could operate with one cop if they so chose. Residents can then react by filing lawsuits, moving out, voting out leaders, etc. Businesses can determine if they want to operate in Minneapolis, move, expand, or close shop. Again, local decisions.

Millions of federal dollars went up in smoke with the low-incoming subsidized housing that the "peaceful protesters" in minneapolis burned down, because black lives matter.

They are talking about dismantling the police department. They say they have a veto proof majority to eliminate the police department. Minneapolis is the county seat of Hennepin County. So does that mean they are going to dismiss the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office as well, and deny law enforcement to the people of the entire county? Are they going to order the Sheriff out of the city in order to be free of the police? What keeps the Sheriff from enforcing the law? My feeling is all of this would be illegal under state law and the requirements of their oath of office.

From what I heard Minneapolis has a charter that includes a law enforcement.

As for the County, that is a different issue. Counties operate on different budgets, obviously, and have a different leadership structure. Most likely the county operates the jail and court systems. Moving those out of Minneapolis would make sense.

There would be challenges, no doubt. But residents outside of Minneapolis would still receive service unless the county decided to join the city. That would need to be determined and maybe those discussions are takin place.

I truly hope that Minneapolis goes through with their rhetoric. It would be interesting to see the results from afar.

Most of the rest of the country will most likely keep what it has. Radical leftists, anarchists, communists, and criminals can fuck off.

Walter Williams spells it all out, great article. Lit's left should read it:

The True Plight of Black Americans

While it might not be popular to say in the wake of the recent social disorder, the true plight of black people has little or nothing to do with the police or what has been called "systemic racism." Instead, we need to look at the responsibilities of those running our big cities.

Some of the most dangerous big cities are: St. Louis, Detroit, Baltimore, Oakland, Chicago, Memphis, Atlanta, Birmingham, Newark, Buffalo and Philadelphia. The most common characteristic of these cities is that for decades, all of them have been run by liberal Democrats. Some cities -- such as Detroit, Buffalo, Newark and Philadelphia -- haven't elected a Republican mayor for more than a half-century. On top of this, in many of these cities, blacks are mayors, often they dominate city councils, and they are chiefs of police and superintendents of schools.

In 1965, there were no blacks in the U.S. Senate, nor were there any black governors. And only six members of the House of Representatives were black. As of 2019, there is far greater representation in some areas -- 52 House members are black. Nine black Americans have served in the Senate, including Edward W. Brooke of Massachusetts, Carol Moseley Braun and Barack Obama of Illinois, Tim Scott of South Carolina, Cory Booker of New Jersey, and Kamala Harris of California. In recent times, there have been three black state governors. The bottom line is that today's black Americans have significant political power at all levels of government. Yet, what has that meant for a large segment of the black population?

Democratic-controlled cities have the poorest-quality public education despite their large, and growing, school budgets. Consider Baltimore, Maryland. In 2016, in 13 of Baltimore's 39 high schools, not a single student scored proficient on the state's math exam. In six other high schools, only 1% tested proficient in math. Only 15% of Baltimore students passed the state's English test. That same year in Philadelphia only 19% of eighth-graders scored proficient in math, and 16% were proficient in reading. In Detroit, only 4% of its eighth-graders scored proficient in math, and 7% were proficient in reading. It's the same story of academic disaster in other cities run by Democrats.

If they do, I hope every law abiding citizen moves out or demands county Sheriff's Office law enforcement, they are part of the county after all. It's hard for me to fathom somebody within the city limits calls 911 and nobody shows up. This is a recipe for vigilantism and worse.

Minneapolis is exceedingly liberal and the citizens match and are proud of that political identity. The government reflects the voters' political leanings.

Ultimately, residents that don't like it have the option to depart. Businesses as well. It happens all the time when people are displeased with government, economics, taxes, and so forth. This will be no different. Maybe the city will come up with a model that works for them if they have the guts to disband the current force. Betting they don't.

I'm with you. I'm betting the return of business will have a lot to do with that decision.

And THAT is why if the (R)'s have any fucking brains about them they will get their disagreements and ideological positions and plans of action on record.

Give these radical leftist all the Rope they need.

Wish them the very best, with a smile!!!

And then shut the fuck up.....if you ain't got nothing nice to say just stow it, at least until after the example has been made.

I do wish Minneapolis the best. They have horrible leadership but that's the citizens' choice.

Hoping they defund the police department. Get on with it.

I wish them the naturally occurring consequences of their choices, good or bad.

Maybe we get something better, maybe we learn what not to do.

It's a win either way for everyone else.

This seems like a fair assessment.

Seems like it was the rioters looters and criminals who did the arson. Perhaps if you want your opinions to matter and not seem racist you should target the correct faction.

How dare you call them looters and criminals....THAT'S RACIST!!!
