In which one President denigrated his culture and one President praised his culture.

Victor Davis Hanson, Trump's Anti-Cairo Speech

A pull quote:

From the pessimistic Greek philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle to the glum Roman critics like Petronius, Tacitus, Juvenal, and Suetonius to the German nihilists such as Hegel, Nietzsche, and Spengler, the inherent challenge of the West was rarely the permanent end of freedom and material wealth. Instead, the difficulty has been largely that we have the burden to use properly our bounty and must decide how to handle unchecked personal liberty and comfort.

Capitalism enriches a society but also risks enervating the senses and the spirit by shrinking human aspirations into material acquisitiveness. Consensual government entails responsibilities as well as rights — if it is not to descend into individual excess as citizens forget that they often should not do what they are legally entitled to do. In the Western war between personal liberty and mandated equality, hoi oligoi struggle to convince hoi polloi that they are not the enemies of the people but their co-benefactors, even when many among the former care little for the interests of the many.

Trump is president at a time when only about 63 percent of the American work force is employed. Entitlements are at unprecedented levels and are increasingly divorced from demonstration of undeniable need. Fury breaks out not from cutbacks in largess, but from modest decreases in promised but unsustainable increases.

The law is seen an encroachment on personal expression and thus ignored when it demands sacrifice. Poverty is redefined not so much as material want but as coveting something that someone wealthier does have but otherwise does not need.

Logic is the key to knowledge, but when it poses as the final arbiter of all natural inquiry without deference to the mysteriousness of god, it creates a self-destructive Oedipal arrogance that man can become his own deity. In such a landscape, how does such a civilization of individuals so eager to live the good life defend itself against a wretched jihadist so ready to die in order to welcome a sexual paradise to come?

"Nothing changes on the left. Back in 1848, Marx and Engels cobbled together a bunch of half-baked theories and called it “science”; they declared that the end was nigh and the world was about to be transformed by the mother of all social cataclysms. Today the lefty climate activists have built computer models that don’t predict the climate and call the result “settled science”, telling us that the world is about to end in a burning fiery furnace."

And now when an American President praises our culture and the West he's promoting white supremacy. I have one question. Who in the Democrat Party accused JFK of the same when he gave his Inaugural address which pretty much did the same thing?

You're a pathetic excuse for a man. How's the daughter? ;)say hi to her for me. :p

Somebody forgot which logon he was using. . .

It seems you've intimidated McJerkus right out of his real user id.

He always forgets that when he goes on a frenzy.

When he "comes back" he never knows what to do, so he just ignores the shit all over the floor as if he has no idea that there is shit on the floor.

If there really was somebody (that was not him) targeting his enemies list, why would he not pile on too?

The dog that didn't yap.

I suspect it's what's caked between the toes of his paws that allows him to be tracked so easily.:D

And who denounces every President since that has proclaimed that a rising tide lifts all boats?

Trump is acting like an old-time Democrat (maybe because he and his family are still Democrats) and the Progressives cannot stand it. They have clearly chased all of the Kennedys and Reagans out of the party and now their goal is to chase them out of "polite" society and they don't care how impolite and nasty they have to get to achieve this goal.

The last democrat worthy of the title was 'Scoop' Jackson.

Sooooo...let me get this straight: Given that a vast majority of the scientific community see the data that global warming is happening as real and reliable while a small minority of that same community believe that it's all bullshit and ain't gunna happen, you're going to go with the minority opinion because that's what you want to believe? Figures.

My take is this: What happens if we believe it and take steps to mitigate the impact of it? We change our life styles a bit and spend a little money and time doing so. Whether it happens or not all you've actually lost is a little money and time. On the other hand what happens if we ignore it and go on the way we have been? If it is bullshit we gain a bit of money and some time. Not much really in the scheme of things. But what happens if we do go on and it does come to pass? All that bullshit about destroying the world is just that, bullshit. The earth has been through a lot more trauma and is still spinning in it's orbit. The only thing that will happen is the extinction of the human race a while before it should happen. If we stay on our present course, do as we've always done, there are two ways it can play out: global warming is a hoax, we go on as we have been, and no matter what we do it will not effect the environment and things will be as they've always been or, we ignore the signs and all the terrible things that have been forecast come to pass and the human race is no more. As of now most scientist agree with the latter while a small minority ( see AJ's cite) agree with the former. So it comes down to a gamble: do we believe the minority and gamble that nothing will happen, or do we believe the majority and try to mitigate the impact on the environment hoping we haven't damaged it to the point of human extinction? Me I'll go with the second option.

'nuff said.

It's not a vast majority and it is experiencing frequent defections with each uncovered fraud.

The satellite data has no need of correction. It has been in a flatline since 1999.

It is only the doctored data that show warming. It is a hoax. It is a shakedown. It is a fear-based religion which enriches its priests as they seek to impoverish us. It is that which we once threw the yoke of off our backs, the complete control of the individual by church and state.
