Ah well that's a much better explanation than I had hoped for. Did the student tell you that a bowl is called a skål because they used to drink from them and pass it around and say skål (cheers)? Though the skal in my username is more similar to the word must or shall.

Vi skal være, very loosely translated We shall be. It's kind of a weird play on words and I had to spell it incorrectly because I can't use the letter æ in my name.
