Miscellaneous political debris

A trial continues.

November 3, 2015

A child was shot to death.

"Surveillance footage from the courthouse and a town fire station, shown later in the day, showed Few's Kia leading Greenhouse on a chase through town, though he doesn't appear to have been travelling at breakneck speed. In footage from the courthouse, Few actually comes to a complete stop at an intersection — as Greenhouse, lights flashing, pulls up behind — before making a turn and carrying on the pursuit."

(18 bullets flew at the car. 14 fired from one police officer. 4 shots
from another. Convenietly, the first 30 seconds of video lack sound, meaning only about four gunshots can be heard on the recording.)

As they arrived, both paramedics said, they saw Few covered in blood and with his hands handcuffed behind his back near his vehicle.

Only after checking Few's vital signs — and noting gunshot wounds to his head and chest — did they notice young Jeremy Mardis still in the vehicle.

Former Marksville deputy marshal Derrick Stafford was sentenced Friday to 40 years in prison after being found guilty last week in the fatal shooting of a 6-year-old boy and the wounding of the boy's father.

http://www.theadvocate.com/acadiana/...4ce7fb6e0.html

According to the Greenhouse and Stafford, the officers decided to conduct a traffic stop because Few had an outstanding warrant. However, the Clerk of Court, the District Attorney’s Office, Marksville Police Department, and City Court noted that they did not have any warrants against him. The officers also claimed Few had a weapon, that was also a lie.

Prior to the shooting, Greenhouse reported that Few had rammed his SUV into the officer’s patrol car. But State Police detective Rodney Owens testified that no physical evidence exists suggesting Few’s vehicle had collided with Greenhouse’s patrol car.

That car was not being used as a deadly weapon at that time,” District Court Judge William Bennett declared after viewing the body cam footage. “I daresay it was not even close to being used as a deadly weapon at that time.”

(Why did they shoot him and his child ?)

"...this entire scenario could’ve been over a relationship. In November 2015, Few’s fiancée came forward about her relationship to one of the murdering cops, Norris Greenhouse, Jr."

http://thefreethoughtproject.com/kep...ks-first-time/

http://filmingcops.com/kept-shooting...ks-first-time/

From what I have read, the victim had inklings that they would arrest him. The victim did not allow himself to be bullied, or his girlfriend to be bullied. He did not stop his car immediately because his son was autistic. He was trying to catch up to his girlfriend, who was driving her car ahead of his. He wanted to hand his son to his girlfriend.

http://filmingcops.com/kept-shooting...ks-first-time/

It is possible that the man who attempted to murder him, was not aware the child was in the car.

Christopher Few the father of child
Samantha Few,mother of Christopher
Megan Dixon the fiance of Chris
Jeremy Mardis the child that was killed
Katie Mardis, mother of a murdered son
Cathy Mardis, the grandmother of dead child

The GOP Health-Care Bill Is an Abdication of Responsibility and a Moral Disgrace

A Republican breaks the facade wide open. "We are wealthy, and can afford to provide for ways to stay healthy. Why should we concern ourselves with the deaths of the poor? It is their own fault. Do not ask for our money to pay for their mistakes. Now, hand over my share of tax payer's cash. I worked hard at my government job, for my free, luxury level healthcare, and perks, this week!"

Democrat Pelosi slams GOP health care bill
May 3, 2017

Top House Democrat says House Republicans who vote for the GOP health care bill Thursday "are going to tattoo this moral monstrosity to their foreheads," and the American people will hold them accountable."

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who helped shepherd the Affordable Care Act into law seven years ago, issued a statement Wednesday shortly after House GOP leaders announced plans to vote on their measure.
Pelosi said that if Republicans pass "Trumpcare" millions will lose health coverage. Budget analysts have estimated that 24 million could be uninsured by 2026, including 14 million by next year.

She said Republicans were pushing through a bill without a revised estimate from congressional budget analysts.

http://www.chron.com/news/politics/a...s-11117827.php

Republican efforts to repeal Obamacare without a replacement failed. But they are attempting the next closest thing: a bill the party leadership will try to rush into law without the barest elements of due diligence. There have been no hearings, no studies, no Congressional Budget Office analysis, not even text of a bill circulated the day before the vote.

They are rushing through a chamber of Congress a bill reorganizing one-fifth of the economy, without even cursory attempts to gauge its impact. Its budgetary impact is as yet unknown. The same is true of its social impact, though the broad strokes are clear enough: Millions of Americans will lose access to medical care, and tens of thousands of them will die, and Congress is understandably eager to hasten these results without knowing them more precisely. Their haste and secrecy are a way of distancing the House Republicans from the immorality of their actions.

House To Vote On GOP Health Care Bill Thursday With Leadership Sure Of Support

Emily Gee, a health economist at the Democrat-allied Center for American Progress, says the Republican proposal needs about $20 billion more per year to adequately pay the costs of high-risk patients.

Texas refused to expand Medicare

Renee Powell's family must pay more than $13,000 per year in out-of-pocket health care costs before they are fully covered.

(Their payments higher than their mortgage.)

"I think it would help for them to know just how much this costs and what families are going through," Powell said. "I'm slightly disillusioned with pretty much everybody in the race."

Feds refuse to release US attorneys' resignation letters

Justice Department lawyer wrote in rejecting a Freedom of Information Act request from the Burlington Free Press.

"This is the public's business. It's not private business," said Alex Howard, deputy director of the Sunlight Foundation, a Washington-based nonpartisan organization that advocates for government transparency.

Last month, Attorney General Jeff Sessions sought immediate resignations from the remaining 46 U.S. attorneys appointed by previous presidents.

U.S. attorneys in Pa. not part of resignation request

March 11, 2017

The heads of the U.S. attorney offices for the Eastern and Western districts of Pennsylvania are not covered by Sessions’ resignation request, according to PennLive. Those two attorneys, Louis D. Lappen and Soo C. Song, respectively, are both acting U.S. attorneys.

Bruce Brandler, of the Middle District that includes Harrisburg, was appointed by Obama-era Attorney General Loretta Lynch but was never appointed by the president. The others, Louis Lappen and Soo Song, filled the eastern and western district posts in an acting capacity following the departure of their predecessor.

Watchdogs ask U.S. attorney to investigate Trump over foreign business deals

March 8, 2017

Eisen said the request to the U.S. attorney should not be seen as a sign that the suit will not move forward. “We believe our complaint in the judicial branch should not exclude review by the other branches of government,” he said, citing the importance of the emoluments restriction.

That clause says that “no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under [the United States], shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.” It was written in to Article I out of concern that the fledgling country’s leaders could be influenced by a wealthy European power.

Preet Bharara, the powerful Manhattan prosecutor who was among 46 US attorneys asked to step down late Friday, was fired on Saturday after he refused to resign following an order from attorney general Jeff Sessions.

“I did not resign,” Bharara tweeted on Saturday afternoon. “Moments ago I was fired.”

Before being appointed by Obama in 2009, Bharara rose to prominence working for the New York senator Chuck Schumer, now the minority leader in the Senate. Bharara served as chief counsel to Schumer during the latter years of George W Bush’s presidency, and led the investigation into the abrupt dismissals of US attorneys in 2006.

In a statement, Schumer praised Bharara for a “relentless drive to root out public corruption, lock up terrorists, take on Wall Street, and stand up for what is right”.

Déjà Vu

"Almost four years ago, Karl Rove was asked, in a Profile for this magazine by Nicholas Lemann, whether it was possible to kill the Democratic Party. “I don’t think you ever kill any political party,” Rove replied. “But do you weaken a political party, either by turning what they see as assets into liabilities, and/or by taking issues they consider to be theirs, and raiding them? Absolutely!” Bush’s Presidency has been defined by the war on terror, but not in the ways that Rove intended: nonexistent W.M.D.s, Guantánamo, Abu Ghraib, Gonzales’s acquiescence in memos condoning forms of interrogation outlawed by the Geneva Conventions, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld’s resignation. Today, Gonzales has the support of few Republicans except the President. Rove, who once boasted of a permanent Republican majority, is facing a subpoena from a Democratic Congress. The Bush Administration is struggling to regain the trust of the American public and to avoid a constitutional showdown over executive power—something it never, ever expected."

Observations and quotes from Sunday’s Andrew Marr Show

Emily Thornberry accused Defence Secretary Michael Fallon of talking “bollocks” in a fiery debate on Sunday’s Andrew Marr Show.

The Conservative MP said the Shadow Foreign Secretary wanted to renegotiate the future of the Falklands’ sovereignty, a claim which Ms Thornberry strongly rebutted, saying: “That is bollocks. It’s untrue.”

She went on to accuse Mr Fallon of lying to the electorate. “You really can't just go around making this stuff up. There’s an election on and people need to make decisions based on the truth.”

She took time to address Fallon's remark, that was critical of Corbyn's stance toward the Irish Republican Army (IRA). (Sad to see that the Tories are just as hypocritical, as American Republicans are.)

Fallon:

I was on all-party visit to Syria, back in 2007. I did meet Assad. I didn’t celebrate his re-election. It was 10 years ago we had a different relationship with Assad.

"There’s a huge moral difference between talking to other foreign leaders, and Jeremy Corbyn’s quite open support for the IRA."

Emily Thornberry said-

"I'm not going to judge you on you going to a reception with Assad and I don't think that people should judge Jeremy by trying to talk to people who might be open to a settlement in Northern Ireland."

Back, in 28 April 2017, the Guardian newspaper made it public, that Greg Gianforte (tech mogul) owns almost $150,000 worth of shares in VanEck Vectors Russia ETF and $92,400 in the IShares MSCF Russia ETF fund.

Both are indexed to the Russian equities market and have significant holdings in companies such as Gazprom and Rosneft that came under US sanctions in the aftermath of the Russian invasion of the Crimea.

Montana’s special election will be held on 25 May to fill the vacancy created by Republican Ryan Zinke’s resignation to become Donald Trump’s secretary of interior.

Emperor Caligula Carrot, Donald, the first of his name, has trolls that are willing to tell lies to the public, to protect their patron. Sadly, Mike Pence soiled his reputation and public persona in service to his patron and his party. Greg Gianforte, has Shane Scanlon. Scanlon took advantage of plausible deniability to cover his boss's arse, and served as a substitute, because Gianforte does not seem to want to face public ire.

How nice for Gianforte, that the local Montana law enforcement was so kind to him. Gallatin County Sheriff Brian Gootkin donated $250 to Gianforte’s campaign in March, according to campaign finance reports. He said in a statement, “This contribution has nothing to do with our investigation.”

"A prairie dog hunt is also on the agenda for the four-city tour for President Donald Trump’s son and Gianforte, a technology entrepreneur up against Democrat Rob Quist in the May 25 election for the seat vacated by Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke."

‘‘As good Montanans, we want to show good hospitality to people,’’ Gianforte said. ‘‘What can be more fun than to spend an afternoon shooting the little rodents?’’

Gianforte, whose campaign has focused on gun rights, dismissed the organization’s concerns.

‘‘Clearly they’ve never shot a prairie dog,’’ he said. ‘‘They don’t know how much fun it is.’’

In the wake of Montana Republican congressional candidate Greg Gianforte's alleged assault of a reporter Wednesday, all three of the state's largest newspapers have withdrawn their endorsements of him. The papers, which include the Billings Gazette, Missoulian, and Independent Record, pulled their support within hours of the shocking incident, which came on the eve of Montana's special election to fill the seat of Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke.

Gianforte Family Foundation

2012, Gianforte joined the boards of the Association of Classical and Christian Schools, the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice and ACE Scholarships, all of which advocate for school choice. Several of these groups received substantial donations from the Gianfortes, as did a variety of organizations that promote conservative Christian views such as opposition to abortion and same-sex marriage. Those groups included Focus on the Family, the Montana Family Foundation, Montana Right to Life, Alliance Defending Freedomand the American Center for Law and Justice.

Gianforte Family Foundation

Although the Gianfortes have given more $100 million to their foundation, only about a third of that has been spent.

He has donated to a large number of organizations that all share an agenda to promote conservatism in policy making,” Johnson said. “Although his campaign has not yet discussed policy positions in detail we can infer he has strong ideological convictions based on the sheer number of such donations.”

$11.1 million, was gifted to Bozeman’s Petra Academy, the Christian private school attended by the Gianforte children and where Greg Gianforte serves on the board.

The donations that have drawn the most scrutiny in recent months are those that supported organizations advocating on social issues, often in addition to related educational or health programs. Some groups oppose gay marriage, seek to ban or restrict abortions, file lawsuits to defend religious freedoms such as prayer in schools, promote Creationism and denounce evolution, propose transferring federal lands to state control or local trusts, and push for taxpayer-funded vouchers to private schools.

Psuedo- Conservative Tactics

Bozeman Chronicle is excoriating Gianforte for drawing up fake headlines for his TV commercials. He is running attack ads against Bullock showing images which are supposedly taken from real Bozeman Chronicle articles with ominous headlines declaring the Bullock Administration termination of state employees is somehow related to “whistle blowing” and not the myriad of other reasons employees might be terminated (poor performance, policy violations, failure to complete assignments, not showing up on time, bad customer service, etc etc.)

Problem is, it’s all bogus. The headlines are fraudulent (as are the ad’s allegations). And the Chronicle took Gianforte to task for it in an article today. Gianforte’s campaign has somehow managed to figure out that personnel laws prevent employers from saying why an employee has been let go, so they make up the “whistle blowing” ruse knowing it can’t be refuted. We know Gianforte is well aware of this, given how often he brags about having been an employer himself. It’s shady below the belt politics of the lowest order. The attorney behind this is…wait for it… the attorney for the Montana Republican Party.

This is not the first time that Gianforte’s honesty has been called into question. He has lied on many issues, including his support of a sales tax, his closing off a fishing easement, and his story about a Facebook executive supposedly trashing the Montana economy. The Billings Gazette editorial board observed long ago that he has “a tendency to talk without having the facts to back him up.”

New 'Blue Lives Matter' laws raise concerns among activists

More than a dozen states this year have passed “Blue Lives Matter” laws that come down even harder on crimes against law enforcement officers.

The new measures build upon existing statutes allowing harsher sentences for people who kill or assault police. They impose even tougher penalties, extend them to more offenses, including certain nonviolent ones such as trespassing in Missouri, and broaden the list of victims covered to include off-duty officers, police relatives and some civilians at law enforcement agencies.

When Missouri passed its bill this month, the legal organization lambasted it as “an overt display of political posturing” over the Brown case. It dismissed talk of a “war on police” as unsubstantiated.

The Missouri legislation would add involuntary manslaughter, stalking, property damage and trespassing to the list of crimes bearing enhanced penalties for targeting police. It also would apply the tougher punishments to crimes involving officers’ spouses, children, parents, siblings, grandparents and in-laws.

Based on the facts, (Dan) Rather, the former anchor of CBS Evening News, said the attack could be considered terrorism. "They were brave Americans who died at the hands of someone who, when all the facts are collected, we may have every right to call a terrorist," Rather wrote of the victims.

"This story may not neatly fit into a narrative you pushed on the campaign trail and that has followed you into the White House," Rather wrote. "They were not killed by an undocumented immigrant or a 'radical Islamic terrorist.' They were killed in an act of civic love, facing down a man allegedly spewing hate speech directed at two teenage girls, one of whom was wearing a hijab."

"Most people who study these sorts of things do not think that is a coincidence. I do not blame you directly for this incident. Nor do I think other people should," Rather wrote. "But what a President says, who he has around him, and the tone he sets can set the tone for the nation at large."

A local woman wants to warn her community about frakking and pipelines.

(Keating, who has stage IV metastatic cancer, which she thinks came from growing up near power plants in Charleston, West Virginia)

"...instead of the warm welcome she hoped for, Keating is greeted by an openly hostile environmental science teacher, who challenges her on every point. From his point of view, Keating is a left-wing environmentalist who doesn’t have her facts straight. Keating sticks it out to the end of the presentation, but by the time she meets an environmentalist friend for lunch afterwards she is sobbing."

Round Two

"...a girl with purple hair and a lip ring raises her hand. If the environmental risks are so bad, she asks, where are we supposed to get jobs?"

Keating says that coal, oil and gas jobs aren’t the only ones out there. She mentions solar, but acknowledges that the industry still needs to grow.

Toward the end of Keating’s presentation, she sits down at a desk, and her male colleague takes over. As he speaks, some of the kids begin to express concern about the pipeline, and by the end, after the presentation is over, even Koba ( teacher, Ed Koba) comes around a little.

“Here, what I want is for my kids to learn all the sides,” Koba says. “But yeah, coal wasn’t the best decision years ago. Now we have acid rain.”

It’s not much, but it’s something: a slight shift in thinking, an admission that Keating might have a point. It’s precisely the kind of moment that the women are fighting for. “This is going to take a sustained effort. It’s going to be draining. So we have to pace ourselves,” Keating says. “We have to have our principles in mind, don’t look back, and just keep going.”

White Genocide ?

Mark Potok, a leader at the Southern Poverty Law Center for the last two decades, essentially these groups can be broken down into two main categories — those who focus primarily on issues of race and those who focus primarily on conspiracy theories. One idea that courses through nearly all of them is the belief that healthy societies are dependent on racial, ethnic and cultural purity — that for the white race, diversity is the path to political and cultural extinction.

The thinking is that each racial/ethnic group should get their own country, but the USA (and Europe) is for white, European, Christian culture. It's why language like Christian's — "get out of my country" — is prevalent among the far right.

Free Speech or Hate Speech?

White nationalists believe their First Amendment rights go further: that they should have the freedom to say whatever they like and not suffer consequences — for example, getting fired from their job for posting something hateful on Facebook.

Trolls posing as victims

Professor Simi says a key feature of white nationalist belief is seeing themselves as victims. "We're not the haters, we're the victims of white genocide," Simi says, describing the alt-right mindset. Marginalized, oppressed, and fighting an uphill battle against the powers that be, they view themselves as noble, courageous, even heroic warriors.

Murdering Lone Wolf Nutcases and Internet Rumors

Chinese soldiers in tunnels, coming to invade Texas ?

Patriot" or Terrorist?

A second category of the extreme right in the American militia movement, which can be characterized by its belief in conspiracy theories.

Elements of these conspiracy theories recently made a prominent appearance in Texas in 2015 during an armed forces military exercise, which stoked fear among some worried Texans that President Obama was about to use Special Forces soldiers to confiscate guns and round up resisters. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott responded by ordering the Texas State Guard to monitor the Special Forces soldiers while they trained in Texas.

Around 3:30 p.m., police announced that they were closing Chapman Square due to suspected criminal activity. Officers reported someone had thrown foul-smelling liquid inside ballons at the right-wing rally and that others had removed bricks from the public bathroom at Chapman Square.

Officers began using flash-bang grenades and tear gas to move people out of the square. Police said protestors had thrown items .

Trump Free Speech rally began at 2 p.m. and leader Joey Gibson urged everyone to “dig deep” and “be positive” and peaceful.

The main speaker, Kyle Chapman, had not taken the stage as of 2:45 p.m. The alt-right leader, aka Based Stickman, earlier in the week tweeted: “I declare open season on the Antifa. Smash on sight!”

One attendee, Jeffrey Hughes, told KOIN 6 News he was representing various groups affiliated with the alt-right and said he believes accused MAX killer Jeremy Christian was acting in self-defense and standing up for his religious beliefs.

Senator McCain appeared to be very mixed up-

June 8, 2017

"He referred to “President Comey,” and at times looked confused and frustrated with Comey's answers."

“In the case of Hillary Clinton, you made the statement that there wasn't sufficient evidence to bring a suit against her, although it had been very careless in their behavior, but you did reach a conclusion in that case that it was not necessary to further pursue her,” McCain's line of questioning began. “Yet at the same time, in the case of Mr. (Trump), you said that there was not enough information to make a conclusion. Tell me the difference between your conclusion as far as former Secretary Clinton is concerned, and Mr. Trump."

In a three-page memorandum attached to Comey’s termination letter, the Deputy Attorney General, Rod J. Rosenstein, cited concern for the F.B.I.’s “reputation and credibility.”

May 11, 2017

For those who felt that the Obama Administration was doing everything it could to help Hillary Clinton win, the encounter was conclusive proof. “snakes on a plane,” the New York Post screamed. “Bill’s shady meeting taints probe.” (Attorney General) Loretta Lynch declined to recuse herself from the case but said that she fully expected to accept whatever recommendation the F.B.I. agents and career prosecutors made.

The tarmac episode reinforced Comey’s conviction to act on his own. The F.B.I. interviewed Clinton the following Saturday, July 2nd. Justice Department officials settled in to wait for a draft of the F.B.I.’s report.

Instead, at about 10:30 a.m. on July 5th, Justice Department officials received an informal heads-up: in thirty minutes, Comey was going to hold a live-televised press briefing at F.B.I. headquarters. Before stepping in front of cameras, Comey sent an e-mail to all F.B.I. employees with a copy of his prepared remarks, and an explanation of why he was speaking so freely and on his own. “I am doing that,” Comey wrote, “because I think the confidence of the American people in the FBI is a precious thing, and I want them to understand that we did this investigation in a competent, honest, and independent way.”

House hearing with Tillerson goes on

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Edward R. Royce (R-Calif.) opened a hearing on the State Department budget with well wishes for Scalise and the others injured.

The hearing was delayed from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., but Royce said that after discussion among committee members, he decided not to cancel it. Going forward with regular business of Congress is an important statement, Royce said.

Bread and Circus, was something you could trust. They listened. They responded. The little, old people were gone. A gigantic parking lot replaced the lawn and trees. As soon as the Texan took over, there was an epidemic of food poisoning. Whole Foods fobbed off rotten whole chickens on to people in the neighborhood. Produce fit for the compost bin filled the aisles. Message to students and working class customers- Fuck you, get lost. Go back to the outdoor market in the North End. Then, the unhappiness dripped down to the employees. The genuine, friendly smile became hard and faked. All of the normal, human interaction came to an end. Something rigid took over.

Formerly, Bread and Circus provided vegetables so fresh and pretty, it was a joy to just look at them. So tempting, the refrigerator was overfilled. Affordable! Once Whole Foods took over, it was miserable for vegetarians, and vegans. Meat, meat, meat. During the Wall St. crash of 2007- 2008 the prices rose, until they were ridiculous.

"You can charge (them) as much as you want."
- John Mackey

John Mackey killed off the competition. Morals and ethics did not matter. Anyone that got in his way suffered. Monopoly money, meant something else, with him.

"John Mackey gives us the pseudo-clever nonsense of Margaret Thatcher. "The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money," Mackey quotes the former British prime minister to begin his Journal op-ed. Of course, by “other people’s money” what Thatcher or Mackey really mean is their money, the money of people of their economic status."

"Unfortunately, the problem with capitalism is that sometimes owners of large grocery chains grow rich on other people’s cheap labor. They then think this qualifies them to solve the problems of society. Predictably, they always seem to come up with solutions that favor their exclusive economic interests over the common good."

What will John Mackey do with billions of dollars?

Online juggernaut Amazon is buying Whole Foods in a deal valued at about $13.7 billion, a strong move to expand its growing reach into groceries.

June 16, 2017

Amazon.com Inc. will pay $42 per share for Whole Foods Market Inc., including debt. That marks an 18 percent premium to Whole Foods' closing price on Thursday.

The deal comes a month after Whole Foods announced a board shake-up and cost-cutting plan amid falling sales. The grocery store operator was also under pressure from activist investor Jana Partners.

The deal is expected to close in the second half of 2017.

Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks, South Carolina Rep. Jeff Duncan and Rep. Trent Franks.

Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.), who told radio host Matt Murphy last week that on her (Hillary Clinton) first day as president, she'd face impeachment.

"And in my judgment, with respect to Hillary Clinton, she will be a unique president if she is elected by the public next November, because the day she's sworn in is the day that she's subject to impeachment because she has committed high crimes and misdemeanors," Brooks said.

"By Democrats soliciting votes of people “based on skin color, they in turn are attacking whites based on skin color and that’s wrong. Nobody should be attacked based on skin color,” the Alabama congressman said.

At one point, Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) stood up to say that Trump “may be spot on” with his claims that more than 3 million people voted illegally — a claim he has repeated numerous times despite the fact that there is no evidence to support it.

Speaking with CNN's Jake Tapper about House plans to vote on a revised health insurance bill, Rep. Mo Brooks, R-AL, referenced people who lead "good lives" and said they should not have to pay as much as others.

"My understanding is that (the new proposal) will allow insurance companies to require people who have higher health care costs to contribute more to the insurance pool," Brooks said. "That helps offset all these costs, thereby reducing the cost to those people who lead good lives, they're healthy, they've done the things to keep their bodies healthy. And right now, those are the people--who've done things the right way--that are seeing their costs skyrocketing."

South Carolina Rep. Jeff Duncan

Another one of Duncan’s quibbles is that most movies, even James Bond flicks, get wrong: It’s a suppressor, not a silencer.

The tube extender affixed to the end of a gun barrel captures the gasses released during the shot and muffles some, but not all, of the “bang.”

Duncan has tried to give Democrats a firsthand experience with suppressors. Last week, he held an “open house” at the U.S. Capitol Police’s shooting range in the Capitol complex, where members could talk to representatives from the suppressor industry and try them out for themselves.

No Democrats attended.

Rep. Trent Franks

Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.), whose measure banning abortions after 20 weeks was being considered in the House Judiciary Committee, argued against a Democratic amendment to make exceptions for rape and incest by suggesting that pregnancy from rape is rare.

"Before, when my friends on the left side of the aisle here tried to make rape and incest the subject -- because, you know, the incidence of rape resulting in pregnancy are very low," Franks said.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...from-rape-is-very-low/?utm_term=.5d54af784f22

Franks' net worth has increased by $25,640,241 since he was first elected in 2003. During the time he's been in Congress, he's seen his net worth go up by 340 percent, averaging out to a 42 percent increase each year.

During that same time period, the average American citizen saw their net worth decline by 0.94 percent.

January 19, 2017, the final full day of the Obama administration, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife issued an order to phase out the use of traditional lead ammunition and tackle on federal lands over a five-year period.

Lead was back on the menu, despite objections, thanks to Zinke.

Rep. Ryan Zinke was picked by Trump, to fill the position of Secretary of Interior

Ryan Zinke sponsors bill

March 2, 2016

The House passed H.R. 2406, the Sportsmen’s Heritage and Recreational Enhancement Act (SHARE Act), during the 114th Congress, which included provisions to eliminate the burdensome regulatory requirements impeding hunting opportunities including the regulation of lead ammunition.

February 26, Rep. Ryan Zinke voted for a bill to allow any government entity – local, state, or federal – to build roads and allow motorized vehicles on American public lands currently protected as Wilderness areas. He cast this vote in spite of the fact that an overwhelming majority of Montanans value wilderness.

The deceptively named bill purports to maintain existing access for hunting, fishing, and shooting sports on public lands. The legislation is, however, a classic bait and switch. It contains provisions that would allow a variety of public agencies to build temporary roads, construct dams, or advance commercial logging in designated wilderness areas under the pretense of improving “access” for sportsmen and women.

Upper Missouri River Breaks is one of 27 national monuments that President Trump ordered Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke to review for possible reduction in size or elimination.

This review comes as a slap in the face of the thousands of Montanans who attended hearings and meetings, wrote comments, and gave testimony in support of protecting the Breaks almost 20 years ago. And it begs the question: Why would the federal government want to meddle with the Breaks after all the work and local involvement that went into protecting it?

Legal experts say the president does not have the authority to revoke a national monument designation, and that any attempt to shrink or revoke the nation’s monuments will end up in court. Let’s hope that Zinke doesn’t consign the Breaks to this kind of contentious fate when all Montanans want is for D.C. to leave the Breaks as it is – a national monument.

Bear Ears Monument under attack

June 23, 2017

When he returns to his hometown of Whitefish next week, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke will be greeted by billboards and a media campaign urging him to leave the Missouri River Breaks alone. It’s one of two dozen national monuments he’s reviewing to eliminate or scale back protections.

Zinke is scheduled to address the Western Governors Association's annual conference Tuesday.

Although lying mostly outside of Indian reservations, the Bears Ears region is an ancestral homeland to Navajo, Ute and Puebloan tribes, whose members consider these lands sacred. Drilling here would be wholly incompatible with the tribes' vision, which is given a special advisory role in monument management under Obama's proclamation.

"Opening the monument to development will threaten cultural and natural resources that can never be replaced. These lands are worth more than the minerals beneath them," said Natalie Landreth, an attorney with Native American Rights Fund, a group that has said it will challenge any move to shrink the monument. "The only correct decision is to keep Bears Ears as is."

Her group represents the Zuni, Hopi and Ute Mountain Ute — three of the five member tribes of the Bears Ears Inter-Tribal Coalition.

100 student leaders submitted a letter to Zinke urging him to leave the monument alone. The signatories, which represent 850,000 college and university students in 24 states, include Weber State's Aulola Moli; Utah State's Jace Goodwin and Michael Scott Peters; and Salt Lake Community College's Benjamin Pok.

Republican Rep. Ryan Zinke became President Donald Trump's Secretary of Interior- Gianforte, a conservative who has never held political office, took the seat vacated by Zinke.

Gianforte was desperate to avoid answering questions about what would replace ACA. He lied before the election, and created a false narrative.

He cheated. He lied. He bought his office.

The top three outside spenders in the election — the Congressional Leadership Fund, the National Republican Congressional Committee and the Republican National Committee — had collectively shelled out more than $4.7 million in independent expenditures as of May 17 to oppose Quist and advocate for Gianforte.

Some of the group’s most generous contributions in the last month, according to FEC data, have come from the American Action Network, a politically active nonprofit that doesn’t have to disclose its donors; RAI Services Co., a subsidiary of tobacco conglomerate Reynolds American; and Steven A. Cohen, the founder of Point72 Asset Management. Together they’ve given the super PAC almost $3 million in contributions.

Gianforte’s total includes a $1 million loan from the candidate; and Quist does not accept money from lobbyists or corporate PACs, unlike Gianforte.2016, Democrats criticized Gianforte for spending about $5 million of his own money in his campaign for governor.

What Greg Gianforte said after winning an election was drastically different than the story his campaign told the day before

What witnesses testify to-

Alicia Acuna, authored a story detailing how Gianforte, without any physical provocation, “grabbed Jacobs by the neck with both hands and slammed him into the ground behind him.”

“Faith, Keith and I watched in disbelief as Gianforte then began punching the reporter,” wrote Acuna. “As Gianforte moved on top of Jacobs, he began yelling something to the effect of, ‘I’m sick and tired of this!’”

False accusations against reporter-

Gianforte- I’m sick and tired of you guys! The last guy who came in here did the same thing!”

“You just body slammed me and broke my glasses,” Jacob says.

“Get the hell out of here,” Gianforte replies.

Every year at the stroke of midnight since 1976, Gatlinburg has claimed 'first' for ringing in the Fourth of July with its Midnight Independence Day Parade.

Hundreds of people line the Parkway ahead of the parade, which starts exactly at midnight on July 4th. Even the fine folks in Washington, D.C. don't stay up that late to celebrate the anniversary of our nation's independence, making this a uniquely Gatlinburg tradition.

This year's parade will be a special one, celebrating the dedication and sacrifices of firefighters, first responders and law enforcement to recognize their heroism in the wildfires that claimed more than dozen lives last November. Gatlinburg named all of those who went to peoples' rescue during the wildfires as Grand Marshals for the midnight parade.

U.S. government launched high-altitude balloons into the ionosphere, hoping to monitor Russian nuclear tests. “The Russians wouldn’t get a nuclear weapon until 1949,” Launius adds. “But we didn’t know that in 1947.”

Information about Project Mogul, is classified! Spy vs Spy- Keep it secret from the Russians-

Project Mogul was conducted out of Washington, D.C. and the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, with some high-altitude balloon launches taking place in the high desert near the state’s border with Texas.

Typically, a Project Mogul balloon sent into high altitude stretched 657 feet from tip to tail, 102 feet taller than the Washington Monument and twice as tall as the Statue of Liberty.

As balloons rode on the upper jet stream toward Russia, a long tail equipped with different types of sensing and listening devices trailed behind.

Between 1945 and 1962, the country carried out 210 nuclear tests in the Mojave desert in Nevada and on several isolated islands in the Pacific.

Concerns about nuclear fallout eventually forced them to carry out the tests either underground or high up in the atmosphere.
