I’ve cut my share of deals in my time, but none quite like the one I made with Kronika.

Leverage counts for a lot in any deal, and being the winner of Mortal Kombat gave me all the leverage I needed to take over and assume all the powers and privileges of a Time God. I gave Kronika her own timeline—figured it was inevitable somehow, but prevented her from ever reclaiming the hour glass.

The Hour Glass—the vessel which contained the power to bend time and history to my will, but it was a little gawdy in its old form. A giant, floating hourglass in space? That was Kronika’s brand, not mine. I spun the sands of time into a Rolex pocket watch. Much more my style.

I cherry picked my way through history, guiding myself to the forefront of the Black Dragon crime syndicate—making sure the big breaks always broke in their favor. I continued the tradition of Mortal Kombat to keep balance between the Realms. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. After my first victory, I made outworld into a farm for muscle and a laundry for my ill gotten gains.

I installed Kabal as Khan of outworld, and kept him squarely under my thumb.

I let my rivals follow pretty much the same paths they had prior, since I love to hate them the way they were. I wore the lock of Sonya’s hair around my neck for years—just like I had when I was just a man.

I allowed Hollywood Johnny Cage to hook up with Sonya Blade and make their daughter, Cassie Cage. I even let her grow up among Kombatants—despite the fact that I alone knew that Cassie could beat a God.

When we reached the overlap, I defended my reign over the sands of time, though they never really had a chance. When it was over, Cassie was the last to fall. She had inherited her mother’s knack for being a pain in my ass…

But now we were forging a new future—a world just like the one before, just without Kronika ever existing and me—Kano, as the God of Time. I brought Cassie back to the Black Dragon Casino once the Kombat was settled.

Now… I was really going to have some fun.

Kano clicks the winder on his elaborate, platinum pocket watch. Locking the moment in time and securing himself within it. His cybernetic eye glowed red, while his organic eye glowed with the white of a living God.

“Wake up,” Kano splashed his glass of champagne into Cassie’s face, “welcome to Las Vegas, your new home.”

Kano was visibly drunk, or at least was playing it up. He poured champagne from the bottle into his mouth, the fizz overflowing down his muscular neck.

“This is where I teach you how to be my personal whore. And before long, I’ll teach you to love it.”

Kano grinned wickedly, his glowing eyes lighting the suite dramatically in red and white with the Vegas skyline behind Cassie past the floor-to-ceiling windows. She was still dressed as she had been for the fight, but he was in a tuxedo shirt and jacket with the collar open.

“We’ll start slow… come take my shoes off,” Kano sat on the edge of the bed smirking.

She’d probably try to fight him—but she would regret it.

Some fifty stories below Kano’s luxury suite, the cage door slammed shut and Mozzak cracked his four sets of knuckles with a smile on his feline face. A former Shokan warrior, Mozzak had been personally recruited by Kano to repatriate to Earthrealm to fight in Kano’s nightly shows.

Mozzak was the champion—had been for years now and he enjoyed living in Earthrealm immensely, though he did miss having a good fight from time to time.

“Going up against our reigning champion, Mozzak of Outworld—we have a challenger! Former champion of Earthrealm and current Spec Ops agent—Unstoppable Sonya Blade!” the ring announcer crooned into the mic from outside the cage before hitting the bell with a ball peen hammer.

Mozzak grinned, spreading his arms wide and advancing on her. She was drugged, Mozzak could smell it on her and it was unlikely that she had recovered from her fights in the latest Mortal Kombat tournament. It was a shame, really. Sonya’s prowess in Kombat was legendary, Mozzak had been hoping for a good fight.

“It’s a shame that you’re less than a hundred percent,” Mozzak sneered, moving closer, “unfortunately, Kano doesn’t ask my opinion before fixing the odds. But he does expect me to take you down hard. Even if the fight ain’t fair—”

Mozzak lunged at her, grasping at her arms with one set of his arms and swinging at her body with his lower set.
