Do you remember your introduction to erotica?

I had no idea they allowed 16-17 year olds in the UK. Was the change due to the law or an editorial decision?
The law changed in 2003, but I think they did raise the models' age to 18 a bit before that. Sam Fox famously was 16 when she became famous for being a Page 3 model (1983).

But they didn't actually do a countdown for Charlotte Church to when she'd turn 16 - despite half the country swearing blind they saw it in the Sun, it was actually just some random on the internet in 2002 (and got shut down rapidly).

The age of consent for (heterosexual) sex was 16, (still is, only now it's also for gay sex, but not for any under-18s if the elder is in a 'position of responsibility', another change from the 2003 Sexual Offences Act). During the tenure of Page 3, the majority of kids left school at 16 and were considered adults.

There was also the Page 7 Fella for a few months in the late 80s. Given the vast majority of Sun readers are male, 'I only buy it for the sport', it didn't catch on!

In retrospect, I've always been fascinated by sex and sexuality. I stole a book called "Man's Body" that was essentially a repackaging of Alfred Kinsey's research disguised as a biology manual. There were illustrations of nude men and women and sexual positions, and the research and anecdotes captured my imagination.

But the first thing I loved that was specifically erotic literature--that wasn't just spicy fanfiction--was a piece called "Crystal's Persuasion," by an author who wrote under the pseudonym the Flying Pen. The writing is wonderful, the sex is powerful and heartfelt, and the structuring of it is the stuff of classic drama. I seek to emulate it to this day.
I didn't see 'womans body' until much later in life. Made me crazy horny thinking a girl reading it wondering about this 'orgasm'. The stats of them masturbating as much, as often and as successfully also confirmed for me that most women were withholding the truth.

Well, I've learned something today. Thanks!

Turns out the Page 7 Fellas lasted a few years, getting shifted to page 3 of the "Sun Woman" section when all newspapers produced extra sections. But nothing more revealing than a chest and open fly.

There's still topless stunnas in the Sunday Sport, which Wiki politely calls 'niche' - it purports to be a newspaper but has stories like 'Mad Lab Clones Hitler!!! Have you seen a Hitler walking down your High Street?" and the classic 'My son turned into a fish finger!!!' complete with mum sadface and quality journalism with a line up of Birds Eye fish fingers (fish sticks in American) and mum successfully identifying her son...

My first erotic read was a Book of the Month Club novel from the 1970s that was stashed in one of my parent's bookcases: Providence Island by Calder Willingham. The basic plot (as I recall it) is a man is stranded on a deserted island with two women. First book I ever read with sex scenes in it. I went back and attempted to read it as an adult and, well, I couldn't get to the salacious parts because it was just so, so bad.

I got into much better material in college, as well as the flood of jizz-soaked prose on Usenet in the late 80s.

On Or About The First Day in June, an erotic novel.

I distinguish this from the pornography I found in the pages of Penthouse and the like. This was a racy novel which I still remember to this day. I think I was in high school and had already discovered Penthouse Forum and the other written stories to be found there. June was literature in comparison.

My uncle had a large library that i would spend hours and hours searching for smutty novels. I'll never forget the day I came across this book.

I was going through the drawers in my parents’ room while house sitting. I found sex toys and VHS cassettes of porn and “dirty” magazines. But, I also found books of erotica and the words on those pages filled my head with erotic imagery and the actors in my head all looked the part and acted better than anyone in those VHS tapes I watched. It made me want to write my fantasies for me as they could literally be about anything.
