A New Beginning
OOC - http://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?p=34374750&posted=1#post34374750

RP Year:

2170

Setting:

Earth, Caprocia, Rush and Space

History:

The outbreak of WWIII was nothing unexpected, however it did surprise the world that it happened in 2054 and not earlier. The governments and leadership around the world had done well in diffusing small conflicts and treated rising unhappiness. But they were only delaying the inevitable for humanity as it was currently. A band aid on an internal wound that would bleed as long as the source was ignored. This war claimed many lives, all across the world, and considering technological advancement since WWII people were ashamed that the casualties and wounded were on par with previous world wars.

For all the development to avoid civilian death, it occurred none the less.

Three years before the end of WWIII, scientists in Germany made a breakthrough. The development of cold fusion. Allowing clean cheap energy to be produced for the world was a god send. However, the technology required to sustain a reaction was kept very secret by the UN who had been forming a 'United Alliance' for years. Their purpose was to unite countries who were serious about a peaceful world. And only nations who signed over their military assets for the 'protection of all United Alliance countries' were put onto the specially installed inter-continental grid.

United Alliance countries made good use of this new power, cities around the world began to develop, rising higher to account for rising populations. They produced Sustainable Production Towers, these covered ten city blocks and were one hundred stories high. Under them water was stored in large man made reservoirs. Some levels were dedicated to food production, housing just crops, or pastures with animals. It removed the weather from the equation, and increased efficiency of everything. People no longer had to farm hundreds of acres, now cities could grow their own food on site. Some levels produced clothing, medical supplies, and very little was produced on paper anymore. Genetic engineering helped speed up food production, and with land now free to build residential buildings humanity boomed with little draw backs.

Countries who didn't relinquish their military and governing might were left in the dark so to speak, and whilst over the next twenty or thirty years the air above the United Alliance became clean due to purification towers and man made carbon sink towers, the air over the 'developing' countries was turning thick and causing rising medical problems as they consumed dirty fossil fuels for power. In 2090, the United Alliance now comprised of 60% of the worlds countries voted to "Free Non-Alliance civilians from their Leadership" and began to sweep neighboring Non-Alliance nations to forcefully remove power.

War raged on for another ten years before all seemed to be lost of the Non-Alliance, now united by a common cause, to remain free and Independent. They were called the United Independent Nations. In 2101 the leadership of the UIN decided that fighting using standard weapons and human lives would not help them prevail, and so, in June they launched a wide scale attack using Nuclear Weapons on the UA.

At the beginning of 2101, the worlds population had peaked at 12 billion. And it is estimated that three billion UA died in the attack, which targeted the major centers of population growth in the UA territory. China, Russia, Europe, Britain, USA were targets, as well as smaller UA territories in Africa, South America and India. However, more died in the retaliation attacks, which were carried out with brutal punishing blows by the UA who had been building much larger nuclear weapons and could strike every single country not on their list. Six billion UIN lives were lost either directly or from radiation storms that swept the land for months following the attack.

By the end, when the world seemed silent in comparison to before, only three billion people remained. Large expanses of Earth were uninhabitable, and the UA finally prevailed as victor. Those UIN countries who managed to survive soon surrendered, or were wiped out. The world seemed to calm down, each country rebuilding.

Whilst all of this was happening, man was well and truly exploring the extensive regions of our solar system, and had advanced enough to visit other neighboring solar systems. Hoping to find other alternatives to living on Earth.

Mans Domain in the Galaxy:

Although no real planets capable of human life existed in our Solar System, Mars had been a colony since the beginning of WWIII. But the colonists were few, and lived inside fully airtight structures. More akin to living on the International Space Stations than a planet. Atmosphere on Mars would take far too long to alter for human breathing, but it was stable enough to begin colonization. Beyond our solar system, two planets were found that would support human life.

Caprocia, although almost entirely an ice planet due to the smaller size of it's sun, had breathable atmosphere and water resources. However, the length of time to travel between Earth and Caprocia required faster than light travel, luckily developed before the Nuclear War. One hundred thousand people lived on the ice planet, a science and engineering team in 2090. And soon after colonization the UA planned for full scale development of the planet. Using artificial heating tapped into the geothermal core of the planet and by purposely increasing the worlds green house effect they increased the planets temperature.

By the time of the Nuclear War, the temperature had risen, and the glacial ices recessed. Unfortunately the geology of the planet was much different to Earths, and under the ice black hard rock covered the ground. With lack of volcanic activity due to such a stable tectonic system the planet lacked much top soil, and the lack of melting ice in the eons before had preserved the surface. But the UA used similar Sustainable Production Towers as they did on Earth, and crushed the black rock and used biological cultures to create a decent grade of top soil. For now, they had self sufficient power, water and food. And so, in 2103 four galactic carriers were produced capable of sustaining a million lives each. And the population of the new Earth planet boomed from 100,000 to 100,100,000 as one ship landed in late 2105.

At the same time that this million moved to Caprocia, another planet was receiving many more lived. Three million immigrants arrived on Rush, an almost perfect planet in another solar system. It's weather was more turbulent, as was it's volcanic activity and tectonics, but it was almost exactly earths temperature and replicated it's environments and atmosphere.

Earth now had two settlements in the neighboring solar systems, as well as a surviving population on Earth. But the UA identified the importance of not putting all their eggs in one basket.

It is now 2170, and the population of Caprocia has reached four million, and Rush now supports nine million people. They are developing nicely.

Cities:

Four large Sustainable Production Towers can be seen towering over the outlining fringes of each city. Large skyscrapers twice the size as 21st Century Earth's stand even taller. Cars are rarely used, and instead VTOL aircraft are the paid transport option. A vast monorail system delivers people from tower to tower, and nobody unless outside of the cities owns a lone standing house. Each family home is decided on the number of people living under the roof, and families often move out when a child is born for an upgrade.

The ground level streets have been preserved with artificial lighting to be parkland, and sporting arena.

Life starts out communist almost, with each person getting given a share of the UA budget, a house, and a job. Of course, if you work harder you keep the increased wage you make. Fair is fair. If you save money instead of spending it, you can ask for a housing upgrade on retirement. And you can spend your wage on anything you want.

But for starters, you have a clean slate, you make of it what you are willing to work for.

Each residential building has a large mall on it's central floors. This is where the inhabitants can buy there reasonably priced food, clothing, sporting goods, electrical appliances and home decorations. They centralized for more efficient shopping and restocking.

On the top floor of each residential building is a medical bay, with heliports available for serious evacuations. And on every thirty levels is a security office.

A central building, twice as large as the others stands in the center of the city. Office buildings, schools, the hospital, library and any other non-residential hub can be located here. Including the central security agency.

We now use VTOL aircraft as taxi's, fast speed monorails for the subway, holographic computers, fully integrated housing to our PDA's and weapons are illegal unless licensed. All buildings have weapon and narcotics scanners in the elevators and stairwells. Crime is at an all time low.

But the underground, and the countryside is where you will find crime. Even in Eden, people manage to have fun.

Applications

Characters

Human please, so far we have not run into any alien species apart from bacteria and plant life.

Profession

Any that would be on Earth...grocer, baker, candlestick maker...production worker, house wife etc.

You can also be a UA Consulate Officer, a UA Security Officer (cop), a UA Medical Officer (doctor/surgeon), a UA Educational Officer (teacher) etc, you see the pattern.

Another option is be one of the UA Navy, Marines, Air Force or Army. The UA Navy patrols the space around the three planets and the shipping lanes between. They also monitor the Jump Stations (location for faster than light to be initiated due created energy fields). The UA Marines are on board Navy vessels in case of conflicts. UA Air Force monitors the airspace on the planets, and also is on the Navy vessels in case of space warfare. The Army is a planet bound/expeditionary branch mainly.

Appearance

Your clothing will be light colored, and made of synthetic materials. Apart from that there isn't much restriction.

However, I would like any military clothing to be similar to the out-of-armor Mass Effect uniform.

I will allow minor augmentation, such as a bionic eye replacement, bionic hand. But only one per character.

Weapons

Current technology covers old projectile weapons but they are collectors items and instead we use highly developed case-less projectile weapons as well as a small amount of pulse rifles. Not phasers or anything, but very similar to Battlestar Galactica weaponry and fighters. Same with our Navy battleships.

History: Vivian Knox was born to a military father and a civilian mother on board one of the UA Medical vessels in the 'Caprocian Solar System'. During her childhood she showed much promise in physical sports and this helped to channel her endless energy. When she reached high school her grades suffered because she wanted to be outside enjoying the day, like many children. Her father enlisted her in a Higher Minds program funded by the UA when she was 13 and Vivian was sent away to an undisclosed location. She returned home at 18, focused and beyond her childhood wanderings. Her scores in those five years had changed from bare passes to the top 5%, and her physical training had been focused on defense and offense rather than kicking a ball around the yard.

She was one of the UA Chosen. A highly classified program that helped any child turn into a highly intelligent, superior, strong adult, for the betterment of mankind. There were a few side effects she returned with, including rapid thoughts, occasional migraines and a distaste for fatty, salty or sugary foods. The migraines were treated with a tablet once per day, but the rapid thoughts made it difficult for her to sleep, and the book shelves in her quarters were quickly becoming full of ramblings and possible inventions or developments. Battle tactics, new medical breakthroughs, how to play Football to win, from top secret to everyday ideas.

They said it was because her brain had accepted the neural graphs perfectly, something very few other candidates had achieved. And her neural pathways were running at a much higher rate than a normal humans. It was for the good of mankind.

When she turned 18, they progressed her through officer academy and she worked her way to Commander of her own battleship. They were the spearhead of the UA Fleet, run by Admiral Adolf Tarnassus. Now, just turning 25, she is the youngest Commander in the Fleet.

The program will remain a secret, and finding out these secrets will happen during her, and your journey.

Augmentation- wears a experimental powered exoskeleton suit. It slightly increases his strength and speed. Unlike others it came medium sized visors that has the HUD to it. It will stop small arms fire but anything larger may pierce it. . The suit never made it to full production, since it was ,made to fit that one person. Thus the military opted for a different model

UA Security COP uniform- http://www.flickr.com/photos/5019196...n/photostream/

Undercover/Civilian- http://www.flickr.com/photos/5019196...n/photostream/

History: It is unknown what he did before, but many have speculated that he served in a UIN military unit that still opposed the UA. There known as the black watch, it was because of the black uniforms. They were able to hold off the UA for a short time before long they had to surrender. At the time he was serving he was only at the age of 16. He is a top rate sniper taking shots no one would take. It is unknown when he started to work with the UA but he turned up on there side. Many stated that a female changed his mind. Since then he served in various Special Forces mostly serving with the navy SEALS as a sniper. Which many of them respected his skills, even his ability to get in close and kill the assigned target? He soon left the military, pulling jobs for the UA government and a few solo jobs, which the UA do not mind. He is currently serving as UA Security officer on many different ships one who checks ships crew and passengers for criminals or stowaways. He would like to meet the girl again, who changed his mind. He was only 17 at the times and she he figured to be 20 or so. He claimed she left a great impression on him as to what he will not say. He also designed the USWS (unmanned Sniper weapon system) which many members of the military use. When he meets police officials or members of the military, the more experienced people often call him a government man. Because he uses a newly made HV round it has yet to be fully adopted by the military and police forces only special organizations use it. If not careful it will damage the breach and make it lock up. this is only if the person fires it on full auto. At times if they come to a planet to explore and the SEALS are sent out he will at times accompany them on the ships, Captian's order.

Name: Jessi Love
Age: 32
Height: 5'6
Weight: 135
Profession: UA Army Special Forces Squad Leader
Weapons: Standard Issued Twin Golden Desert Eagles (with black hearts painted on the handles), 5 combat knives, each hidden on her body.
Appearance: http://static.blogo.it/blogapuntate/...grey/foto3.jpg
Jessi is of african american descent. Her hair is dark brown with natural blond highlights. Her eyes are black, not dark brown; black.
History: Jessi's parents were both in the UA Army. They raised their only daughter with a firm, strict, upbringing. They even took time out of schooling to have her play in the 'war games'. Jessi was a happy child and her both her parents loved her very very much. It was natural for her to want to join the army. She rose through the ranks quickly and was an exceptional soldier. She followed orders to a T; including the one that ordered her to blow up an orphanage with kids inside. She didn't hesitate.

Jessi has been in charge of squads for as long as she can remember. Some of her subordinates think she's crazy and most love her, even if they fear her. She has saved more than one member of her squad by running towards danger. Because of this tendancy to disregard her own survival instincts she has been under psychological evaluation. She has been stationed to the ship to help with security until they can clear her to active duty.

Jessi feels caged and restless. She's ready for combat.

Name: Angus Bailey

Age: 27

Height: 5' 10"

Weight: 170lbs

Profession: Captain/pilot of the independent trading ship Bouncing Betty

Weapon: Smith & Wesson Model 686 pistol - http://www.imfdb.org/images/9/9f/Oldpistolv2.jpg
Norinco Type 84S rifle - http://www.imfdb.org/images/4/48/Nor...pe84SRifle.jpg

Appearance: http://images.starpulse.com/pictures...ASG-007271.jpg
Generally unkempt at the best of times, Angus has light brown hair, blues eyes and usually sports a few days' worth of facial hair. When on a job he'll usually don a jumpsuit, but when out to impress he throws on a cheap suit.

History: Angus Bailey was a restless youth who never truly excelled at anything. While physically fit and a keen athlete, he could never achieve the sort of success in the classroom that he could on the field. There aren't many job prospects for someone whose primary talent is the ability to run very fast, so one way or another Angus found himself in the Army.

Why a young man with little respect for authority thought he could be successful in the armed forces, we may never know. It should come as little surprise that Angus was soon given a dishonourable discharge after starting a drunken fight with his commanding officer. Drifting aimlessly for a few years, he took a job on board the Bouncing Betty, a flying junk heap owned by an old coot named Jim James. Perhaps Jim saw something of himself in the young man, or perhaps he just saw a sucker ripe for exploitation, but when the old man announced his retirement two years ago he happily sold the ship to Angus.

Angus has been piloting the ship ever since, occasionally taking on extra crew when he can afford to. He accepts any job, no questions asked, as long as the money is good. This does, inevitably, cause him some problems with UA authorities, as much for the numerous health and safety failings of his ship as the less than legal status of some of his cargo. Regardless, Angus has managed to stay in the sky thanks to his wits, cunning and simple good luck.

November, 2170

Caprocia stood central in it's solar system, and from the relay station you could see the planets surface with ease. The planet was around 50% habitable, cold land, and 50% glacial ice still. The relay station, a spinning set of rings built inside a large ships, was capable of moving around space to stay in contact with it's subspace energy field. The reason travel between Solar Systems at the blink of an eye was possible, and hopefully even Galaxy's one day.

The space around the relay station between the Caprocian Solar System and Earth had been quiet for months, and yet as always a detachment of the Admirals Fleet remained to stand guard. They had made no contact with alien species, much to the dislike of conspiracy theorists and many of the planets more fanatical inhabitants. And the UIN, although there were supporters were still around were in too few numbers to be a major threat, at least one requiring two battleships like the UANS Veracity, a destroyer and a cruiser standing guard.

And it was during these quiet spells that Commander Knox found herself taking more of her medicine to keep the migraines at bay. When at war they almost never became prevalent enough to need masking with drugs, but now, with nothing more to do but send out exploration patrols, it was beginning to drive her mad. She made good use of the ships training rooms, spending above normal hours in the physical endurance VR (virtual reality) pods, that mimics the strain on ones body with small electrical impulses in the safety of a 7 foot by 4 foot pod. All the while the brain was at war with a computer program trying to kill them, or train them, or just help them learn.

But when she had maxed out her time, gone for an old fashioned run around the levels of her ship and put her mind into the books for hours there wasn't much more to get her mind focused on. And that was when she would pick up a data pad, and begin to write whatever came to mind. During these spell she really didn't pay attention, the neural implant took over and did it's job. Allowing her to fall into a deep sleep, whilst the overflowing of information was dumped into virtual drives on the ships computers.

When she would wake, there would be another few hundred pages for the UA Military Intelligence teams to read through, and occasionally a wealth of credits would be transfered into her account depending on the usefulness of the information she sent. Sometimes she would worry about what was said, and that was why she had begun to keep a journal, hand written of what was sent. Her bookshelf was beginning to overflow with the bound copies of ramblings. She looked at one of the old copies, there was a design for a medical implant to reconnect a disconnected spinal column. Something the UA now used as common practice.

At least someone was getting helped by this information.

"Commander Knox, Ambassador Rigel wants to see you at the Caprocian Embassy. He says it is a matter for Military involvement. Admiral Tarnassus has signed off on your disembarkation papers," announced the feminine computer voice that was broad casted through her digital communication badge.

"I'll meet my team in the docking bay in fifteen minutes, get a shuttle ready. XO Hannar has command until I return. Out."

Closing the book, Vivian placed it back on the shelf before collecting her gear and leaving for the private shuttle. A five man team would await her arrival in the docking bay, geared up in their exosuits and with standard Navy weapons. One carried a long range rifle, another a box-fed suppressive fire weapon and the rest carried standard assault rifles.

Before long, the armed shuttle was on it's way through the Caprocian atmosphere and to the Embassy building.

The year is November 13 2170 all over the news, reporters announced two prominent members of society were robbed, a navy officer and a security officer were killed, a task force has been set up to corner the suspects and bring them to justice.

3 hours later
“Alright I’m glade all of you could attend this emergency meeting” an older men replied as he walked to a podium. All round he could see the ten men who he picked for the case, all of them where dressed in their civilian cloths which and or their undercover cloths. Soon three pictures appeared of the screen behind him, two were males and the third one looked female. However, with the hairstyle and the way she dressed she could have past for a male.

“As you know several hours ago these three suspects killed a navy officer, stole an important item. Even worse they killed one of our own.” The man added as he showed the picture of the slain officer.

“So sir why are we just setting here talking them, we should be out in force to catch these murders,” a man shouted as he jumped to his feet and gave the man a salute.

“Calm down Mic” a man replied from across the room, “We wouldn’t be here unless something happened,” He added as he sat up letting a gun book fall to the floor.

“Your right Kris” The old man replied as he straightened his tie and took a deep breath, he slowly held it in before finishing his sentence. “We will assist the UA Navy Team that is being sent down here, they have led,” he added with an unsatisfied tone.

With that, the whole room erupted in a wail of complaints but the captain just left the room with his head hung low. All of them tried to convince the captain to let them do the investigation before the Navy men arrive. However, the captain would hear it he told them to look for any hiding places they may take and any friends that may hide them. He also stated once found they are to report it to the navy personal and that a few of them may work with them.

“Kris you’re a government man maybe you can use your influence to let us take this investigation.” A middle-aged man asked Kris as he walked up to him.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about” Kris replied as he stood up

“Kris would you please come into my office” The captain’s voice asked as it came over his badge com

“Yes sir” Kris replied as he walked to the captain’s office, through the window he could see the captain and another man. By the way, he looked; Kris figured he was from the UA government.

“Kris this is Mr. Sanders, he would like you and three others to assist the team that is coming in. Any objections’” the captain asked as he leaned back in the chair

“You’re the boss sir, I’ll have Nakajima, Mic and Tristan accompany me” Kris replied as he gave the captain a salute.

“Aya she’s a new recruit and your partner you sure she can handle it” The captain asked as he leaned forward and rested his chin on his hands.

“She needs the experience.” Was all that Kris said before he walked out of the room to find his team?

The Embassy main floor, Kris along with three other people two males the third a female who sat next to him. The girl was looking all around looking at faces. It was as if she was searching for someone. The two men were in different spots, Mic was in a chair with his face in bedded in a book. Tristan on the other hand was at the receptionist desk hitting on the young girl. From the way he was talking, he made the girl blush with what little words he said to her.

“Aya calm down” Kris replied as he sat a hand on her shoulder to calm her, and to stop her from looking all around. Kris noted that she was wearing an interesting outfit. She had on a Gray skintight catsuit, a blue and white UA security jacket which it had her badge on the left side. She had on white chaps, which held a holster and her issued pistol. She was light tanned, a white blonde hair color and icy blue eyes. Even if she did not wear the catsuit, her features were still impressive. It was more fun to watch the men trip over themselves as they stared at her.

‘ But its not everyday we get to meet with a ambassador” Aya replied as she turned to Kris

The Navy shuttle moved above the city, banking around several of the tall buildings before coming up and landing on the Embassy helipad. The winds were strong today, and the many flags representing the 'Neighbourhoods' fluttered loudly as the jets on the shuttle switched off. Someone from the Embassy was already waiting on the roof, and escorted them quickly inside.

"Commander Knox, I am glad you are here. The Ambassador will be ready shortly, but for now the UA Security are waiting in the lobby for you. Please, take the elevator to the ground floor, I will send word when the Ambassador is ready to meet you." The woman looked to be around twenty, and wore a standard light blue and white uniform, almost robes. She didn't seem to notice the Commander standing still and not following until she heard Vivian clear her throat.

"Miss....Franch correct?" Vivian questioned, looking at the name tag. "I'm sure robberies don't happen around here under such high security very often, but may I remind you that if the Ambassador is 'making his office' presentable, that he is tampering with an offical crime scene and that if I find he has moved even a single item that he could be spending a night behind bars...I shouldn't have to tell him this in person, should I?"

The woman who had been slightly snobish for the first few seconds had become withdrawn towards the end of the Commanders ordering. And nodded quickly and smiled to break the tension. "Of course, I was mearly stating that he was...taking a moment to clear his schedule for the rest of the day. I'll make sure he hurry's along then. Please...," she explained, using the datapad to make a few changes before showing them to the elevator.

The trip down was quiet, apart from the light music that wafted around to assure everyone that the building was a serine and safe place to live.

Vivian found herself wondering about the Ambassador, and what could have been stolen. But her priority was the 'Football'. About halfway through the downward descent, the back of her skull began to ache and she cracked her neck from side to side to settle the feeling. It was going to be a long day.

The elevator doors opened with a chime, and the Military team stepped out and walked across the smooth tiled floor towards the waiting UA Security Team.

"Kris Ruslan, UA Security? I'm Vivian Knox, and this is my team," she introduced with a quick nod of her head towards the rest of her team, having only the name of who would be meeting her. "We are here to regain control of Navy property and assertain any connection to the theft of the Ambassador's property. What is the status of this case? Are you in charge?"

The moment he heard the bell to the elevators open he turned his head and saw several people walk out from it. By the way they dressed, the way they walked and the gear that all of them carried he knew they are military.

“Hey Boys show time” He said as he quickly stood and greeted them politely, behind him he could here his team gather behind him.

Kris greeted them with a Nod of his head as he heard the one in charge tell who she was and why they where here.

“Yes I am Kris Rusland,” Kris said as he looked at her team, “They are my team,” he added as he introduced the three of them behind him. He could tell by the body language of Mic that he did not like it at all. Tristen seemed more interested in the female commander than anything else did; Aya was just like a new rookie at full attention waiting for orders.

“Would you like to sit down?” Kris asked as he pointed to the chairs, it did not matter to him if that they stood or sat. However, he figured that they would be more comfortable sitting than standing.

Kris waited until all of them sat down before he took a seat in front of her; Kris slowly pulled out a Holographic projection data and turned it on. Soon a video appeared in front of them that showed several people enter the elevator all of them wearing large over coats. With a press of a button, he stops at an image and let them look at the faces of the three people.

Squad Leader Sgt. Love stared at the 3 cherries (new recruits) around her: Technician or techie was the brains who was to help map and guide them, communications or com was well what her name implied, and Gunner or gun was basically the extra gun. No, Love did not remember their names, just their positions.

This was supposed to be a simple recon mission. Go in, see what's going on, report, and get out. If any hostiles subdue them. Something not even worth her attention. A small mission to determine her psyche she was sure. She looked at the freshly shaved heads and sighed. This would be their first mission, a way to get some experience under their belt. Bullshit, if you asked her.

"Alright maggots. We're going in hot. Hand signals only. Watch each other's six (back)." She crossed her left hand over her right arm and took her deagle from her shoulder holster. The others had issued M16's, but she preferred her deagles.

The ship landed they jumped out and Sgt. Love lead the way straight into a cavern. She held up her fist near her face and everyone immediately stopped. She peeked around the corner. Nothing. She signaled for the techie to start the beacon. This is how they will map the caverns. She turned the corner and came to another 3 way stop. She signaled for everyone to stop once more. She tilted her head. Towards the right she could hear water dripping. She turned the corner once more this time going right. She walked a few steps when she heard a woman's giggle. It was ominous; spooky.

The team halted as Sgt. Love faced forward. The Techie was right behind her and staring at his grid map. Com had her gun out pointed at the far wall and Gun was watching everyone's six. Love tapped Techie on the shoulder. He nodded and signaled to the Com to move forward who tapped Gun's shoulder to move forward. They went about 30 yards when Love commanded them to stop once more. She looked around the corner to see a little girl playing. The girl giggled and her mother came to her.

"Com, get on the horn. Radio that we have people down here."

"Yes, Maam." Com radioed in and Love could hear her as she slowly made her way to the pair. "Command, We're in the hole. 2 civilians; 1 female minor and 1 female mid 30's; no weapons. Engaging."

Love kept her gun pointed down at her side hoping to keep the weapon out of sight. The girl saw her first and gasped. The woman pushed the little girl behind her. "I'm not here to harm you. You will need to come with us."

"No!" The woman ran off to the left into a darkened hallway pulling the little girl behind her. Love raised her gun and aimed, but the only target she had was the little girl. She started to pull the trigger, but the girl had vanished into the hall. Love took her finger off the trigger and signaled for everyone to get hot; all gadgets put away and grab their guns.

Love took two steps when a man with a gun came out of the hall. Love double tapped him (a shot in the chest and one in the head) before moving down the hall a few steps and leaning against the wall where the hostiles seemed to be coming from. She couldn't believe this was just a few people trying to scrape by. It was unusual behavior for the woman to run at the sight of them. Usually an argument demanding they should be free, live the way they want, blah blah blah. Or maybe if they did hide to not be forced to go with them, usually after Love got tired of the argument, but guns?! And to shoot at the UA was a death sentence itself. Something wasn't right here.

"Com, radio command. We have a problem."

Gunshots sounded down the darkened hall and parts of the wall inches from Love's face splintered. Love didn't move an inch even as some of the shards flew into her face. She peeked around the corner, lifted her left arm, and shot twice. She paused heard a groan and moved forward.

Angus was just entering the ionosphere when he heard a pop.

That wasn't anything unusual; his ears had a tendency to pop whenever he was making a descent. Except this pop wasn't in his ears. It was somewhere under the control panel.

Did he want to risk looking? He was moving awfully fast through the planet's atmosphere. Maybe just a quick look. He let go of the flight stick and bent down under the panel, which had the immediate effect of sending the ship into a tailspin.

"Shit," muttered Angus as he struggled to right the ship again. The planet's surface was drawing nearer but if there was something wrong with the flight controls, how was he going to land?

Well, he knew the answer to that: badly.

He looked around for something to help. A spool of twine was within arm's reach; he used it to tie the stick in place as well as he could and then kneeled down to check out the system.

There was another pop as he pulled away a panel and examined the decrepit wiring. There was the problem: a few exposed wires were sparking off against a fuel pump and causing traces of oil on the pump to ignite. He kicked the wires back, sending bright yellow sparks in all directions, and put the panel back in place. That should keep it from catching fire for a while.

Angus sat back up to see the ground rapidly reaching up to meet him. He yelped and pulled on the control stick, still tied in place with twine. He scrambled to undo the knots as best he could before wrenching the stick as far back as possible and evening out just in the nick of time. Breathing a sigh of relief, Angus patched in the co-ordinates for a docking station. He'd been travelling for two weeks; it would be nice to stand on solid ground again, even if it was Caprocia.

As he drew nearer, Angus switched on his communications relay and hailed the docking bay.

"This is Angus Bailey of the trading ship Bouncing Betty, requesting permission to land," he said, trying to ignore the rattle that was eminating from somewhere behind him.

"Bouncing Betty, your request has been denied," came the message from the other side. "Due to a security breach, all arrivals and departures are temporarily forbidden."

"Come again?," said Angus incredulously.

"UA executive order, all travel in and out of the city is expressly forbidden" said the voice.

Angus debated his options. He could wait until either the docking bay was open again or he ran out of fuel, whichever came first - and it almost certainly would be the fuel. Or he could keep flying, pretend he didn't hear the message and deal with the consequences once he was on the ground. It seemed like an obvious choice.

"Uh, flight control, this is the Bouncing Betty. I didn't quite get that last message. Requesting-" he growlled and blew into the microphone - "land."

"Bouncing Betty, request denied! Security protocols prohibit arri-" Angus switched off the comm relay. This old ship had communication issues all the time.

It didn't really surprise him when he reached the docking tower and the doors were being closed. Red lights flashed on and off in an effort to stop him, but Angus gritted his teeth and hoped for the best. He brought the ship careening into the docking bay, workers frantically jumping left and right to get out of his way. The ship finally came to a thudding stop and shuddered.

Another perfect landing. Angus hopped out of his seat and headed for the cargo door. He opened it to find a half dozen security guards aiming rifles at his head.

"Woah, woah, hold on, guys!," he said, raising his hands. "I'm no threat, just got an important cargo that needs unloading."

"Show us your flight manifest," said one of the guards, stepping forward. Angus slowly grabbed the manifest from the wall of the hold.

"Sorry to scare you guys," he said. "But I know you really needed these-"

"Prophylactics?," said the guard, narrowing his eyes. Angus shrugged his shoulders.

"Some people think they're important," he muttered. The guard shoved the manifest against Bailey's chest and replied, "You'll have to wait, anyway. We're on high security alert, no loading or unloading of cargo until we're given the all-clear."

"I've got places to be!," said Angus. "Places where I'll need a prophylactic, know what I mean?" The security guard shook his head.

"You stay with your ship and you don't cause any trouble!," he said before marching off, the other men following close behind. Angus sighed and sat down beside the Bouncing Betty. How long was he going to have to wait here? So much for a little excitement...

Jack wasn’t even aware of the day, let alone the time. Finally he had the opportunity for a little rest and relaxation and that was exactly what he planned to do! It felt like an eternity since he felt the rigid bunk they called a bed. Jack remembered a time when he had something he could really call a bed, something soft and cushy that made you feel warm and relaxed. He closed his eyes and tried with every bit of imagination he was laying on one of those things, maybe with a blanket and perhaps a beautiful lady or two. Ah…Jack remembered a time when he knew a few beautiful ladies…

The blaring sound of the alarm snapped Jack from his blissful reverie. With a weak sigh and several choice swear words Jack pushed up into a sitting position, his black hair wild and disheveled. Chocolate brown eyes slowly blinked away the crust of sleep before his fists ground into them thoroughly.

“Alright, alright!” He groaned pathetically, silencing the monotonous beeping that seemed to echo from every corner of his quarters. “I’m up for fuck’s sake.”

It took him several more minutes to get the motivation to rise from the bunk and find his clothing. All the while he listened to the simple communication directing him to the docking bay. Jack wasn’t sure if any specifics were mentioned, he really stopped listening after the first few seconds. All he knew was he had to get to the docking bay in fifteen minutes; more than enough time to get ready.

* * *

“Hold the door!” Jack yelled as he bounded out through the door towards the shuttle, his arms clutching at two large metal containers, several packs slung over both shoulders. He was late, but then again he was always late. Jack was rarely on time, rarely followed through with proper protocols and procedures. He was far from the ideal soldier, though his skills as a tech specialist couldn’t be denied. There was little doubt that was the only reason he wasn’t shot on sight most days.

“Why do they have to make these ships so spaced out?” He muttered loudly as he stumbled into the shuttle’s bay, nearly collapsing onto the floor. His breath came in shallow gasps and his hair was still just as disheveled as when he had awoken. Those containers were dropped to the floor none too carefully before one hand rose and adjusted his glasses.

* * *

Jack took to his typical place in line, his gaze lingering upon the gleaming screen of his datapad. The fingers of his right hand skimmed over smooth surface, running several diagnostics and tapping into UA security database. Just as the images of the three suspects sparked to life upon his screen the shuttle bay door slid open and the cold air of Caprocia tore through him. Jack inhaled sharply at the sensation, a shiver running down his spine.

“I hate this icecube of a planet,” He grumbled under his breath as the image recognition program scanned through the several hundred thousand photos of known inhabitants of all three planets. It wasn’t until they were within the building and being introduced that Jack’s search finally bore fruit. No doubt he should wait until an opportune moment to address his commanding officer with his find. After all she was already speaking to another, some high-ranking member of the UA security and his team. Anyone else when a modicum of respect and discipline would have waited; but Jack never was one to wait.

“I think of got something on the three suspects.” He began aloud, as if he had been speaking as was simply finishing his thought. It wasn’t until he looked up that he recognized he was a little out of place. He shifted lightly in his armor, trying to pull of a nonchalant look.

After the introductions were taken care of, and everyone was seated, the briefing began. The holographic projection gave then a visual on the offenders. And shifting her gaze to check on Jack, her technical specialist in her peripheral vision she knew the small head movement would indicate for him to check the records. It was subtle, but showed her attention was on him.

“I think of got something on the three suspects.” He quickly spoke up, but did not finish his account.

For a second everyone waited, but she could sense their silent groans at him not continuing.

"And? Who are they?" she questioned, leaning back and crossing her arms. He was on their time now.

This wasn't an unusual occurrence, Jack was quick to interrupt and even quicker to annoy people with his lack of military standards. But he was lucky that Vivian didn't mind that as much, she had a soft spot for the guy, and never was one for standards if the mission was a success.

"Anything interesting in the files?"

Upstairs, the Ambassador was ready to see everyone, and ordered his Assistant to get the teams waiting in the Lobby. The elevator beeped, showing someone entering it on the top floor.

“Interesting? That depends on whom you’re asking,” Jack was quick to retort as those deft digits slid across the screen of the datapad and punched up several screens with numerous data on each suspect in turn. Almost every detail imaginable could be retrieved once the program identified the individual.

“Hans Fauver. He’s a line worker in one of the production factories. They make those little microchips…you know the ones,” He glanced up after a moment of silence, once more he felt several eyes on him as if he were wasting precious time. With a gentle sigh he continued:

“Joseph Banks. An unemployed mechanic, he never worked on anything but civilian vehicles. A bit of a heavy drinker and he likes to slap his wife around like a red-headed step child but other than that nothing.” He read from his datapad, pressing several buttons and sending the information about the room to the numerous datapads upon the table. Lastly the image of the woman flashed up on screen with numerous information flashing beside it.

“Jillian Umbridge. Now this one was kinda tricky to track down. Hard to tell if that was a man or woman from the picture, at first glance at least. But once I got a decent picture of her..well…just take a look for yourself. I’d buy her a drink.” Jack couldn’t help but laugh to himself at his own comment, after all if you couldn’t laugh at yourself who could?

“A stay at home mom. Husbands a well-respected businessman. Not much at all about her really. Cept…not sure if it really even matters. Not my place to anyway…but she’s related to a known UIN military leader back from the good ole days of war…back even before we nuked half the planet and gave our future generations webbed toes and two heads.”

“You are correct” Kris replied as he looked at the man who spook up,

“There is a problem though,” Kris added as he hit play again the video continue to play, as it continued to play he could tell some of the military men with the girl looked uneasy with what they saw. All of them exited the elevator. As they did, all of them produced various weapons of different types.

“He has an Armlight automatic Combat Shotgun, it fires ten rounds in mere seconds, and it will fire various caseless rounds ranging from slugs to an armored piercing flechette round. Kris replied as he zoomed in on the picture Joseph. “Next is Hans he is armed from what I gathered is a machine pistol called the Styer new model Special Purpose Machine Pistol. Or the SPMP” “And this lovely lady is armed with what looks like a modified Police issued H&K USP Lawgiver “he replied as gave a sigh. “ So that’s her name interesting,” he added with a whisper

“What I gathered is that they used this device “Kris added as he brought the schematic view of a small compact device. “I‘ve begun to put it back together from they way it looks it is a new type of Jammer.” He added

“ Impossible it can’t be a jammer “ Mic shouted out loud “ its to small, the smallest one in the making is about the size of a small brief case” he added before a quick look from Kris shut him up.

“It was at this time our Security officer came to pick up his wife for lunch” Kris replied as he brought up a split screen. “Once the gun fire erupted he went too investigated and was killed just as he exited the elevator”. “There was no video feed in the Ambassadors room so we couldn’t see inside it, but two of them exited the fifth room with your brief case.” Kris replied, “Jillian fired onto Security Officer Sam only injuring him, but Joseph walked up and shot him point blank in the face.”

“This was what was stolen a medium sized brief case that can hold various items” He added. “It has a built in security device that needs a thirteen figure number code” Kris said as he brought up the brief case. “It’s to full military standards; one person has half of the code the other half is known by the person carrying it”

“But From the looks of it they have yet to open it.” Aya replied as she paused the Image of Hans Carrying it

“They may have already got the code” Tristan replied as he laid the data file down

“The Ambassador has yet to tell us what was inside of it we can only speculate it maybe a weapon, or military secrets” Kris told everyone as he sat his data pad down

So apart from having some serious weaponry, and a way of hiding it from state of the art sensors there was only a small piece of the puzzle linking them to any anti-UA movements. And the UIN, although a thorn still, was fairly quiet these days. "They would have had to be blocking a lot of the scanners across the city, but since no spikes will show up, you will have to do your best tracking their movement the old fashioned way. Visual confirmation."

"Then we best be asking him those questions. Kris, your team will be in charge of finding out how those three left the city, or where they are if they are still inside the city. If you need extra resources, talk to Jack, he'll use military assets to widen the search." Vivian spoke quickly, as she often did. It was just how her brain worked. And instead of sitting down here she wanted to be up in the office, making sure nothing was happening to the Ambassador or any evidence.

But there was one little hang up to working with the UA Security, when concerning military information. Clearing her throat she checked Kris' teams reactions. "However, if it is classified information as I suspect it will be you may have to be absent at the time he discloses the contents of the briefcase. If we want to process these criminals and get them a full sentence we have to do this by the book."

Vivian stood as the elevator at the end of the lobby opened and the Assistant stepped out. "Once we have the Ambassadors account, we will come back here and discuss the next step."

Moving over to Jack, she leaned in and whispered something quickly in his ear before heading off to the elevator. The whispering went along the lines of, "run the Ambassadors audio and visual through scans, use my video feed, I want to know if he is untruthful at all."

Waiting for Kris' team to enter the elevator she checked the lobby one last time before stepping in herself. She had an odd feeling about this. Why was the Ambassador meeting with a Navy Officer who carried secrets as valuable as those taken.

"So, what are your gut feelings on this case?" she asked, leaving the question open to everyone.

Sgt Love stood in a room with Gun to her right, Com to her left, and Tech behind her. The caverns were many twists and turns, but basically a big circle. They had mapped it and rounded up 20 people; Gun had killed 7, Com had killed 3, Tech wounded 1, and Love had taken down 19. the 20 people ranged from babies seemingly 4 months of age to older adults. They were all on the knees with their hands clasped behind their heads. Except for 2 women holding babies and both of those babies have been thoroughly searched to make sure there were no weapons in their wrapping.

"Gunner, Technician, double check the surrounding areas. Make sure we didn't miss anyone. Overturn everything, knock on all walls, we better not miss a single thing."

"Maam yes Maam."

Love watched Gun and Tech go down a ways in standard 2 person point. Coms moved forward and held her gun over the people as Love holstered her weapon. "Civilians, you are all under arrest. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say, do, is being video tapped and will be used against you in the United Alliance court of law. Do you understand these rights?" No one answered. "I will take your silence to mean yes."

"Don't we get an attorney," someone called out.

"For what," Love asked. "And nope." They started to argue about rights and Love was getting annoyed. "Are you a part of the United Alliance?"

"NO!" They all shouted.

"Attorneys are for the residents who recognize the United Alliance as their government. You are all traitors and potential assassins." She smirked.

"Love, come in Love."

Sgt Love touched the chip in her ear to access the com to her team. "Go Head."

"5 more people. 3 wounded. No longer in custody of their weapons."

"March their asses back over here, out." Love clicked off and waited for Tech and Gun to come back in with the extra 5 people. She squatted and stared at each of the people noticing that the more silent and still she was the more nervous they got. Love arched an eyebrow, but said nothing, did nothing.

Finally Gun and Tech entered the room forcing 4 men and 1 women to their knees. These people were different. They looked more .. clean like they just bathed, but were trying to look dirty. They looked a little less hungry. Something about them just set them apart. Small difference. Com came to her left and leaned over to whisper, "Does something seem a bit odd to you about those people, boss."

Love slowly nodded. She wasn't the only one who caught that. She walked slowly over to them and noticed the halo dog tags. Soldiers? "Names." They ignored the hell out of her. Looking past her. She walked over to one of the men, the one not bleeding. "I said your name." She grabbed him by his shirt and cocked back to punch him. The man shook in his shoes and started to say something but the woman barked at him in Japanese. The woman kept on for a moment before shutting up.

"That's interesting. Com radio command. Let them know we have a man alias 'Robar'. Let them know we may have war criminals on hand." Coms walked off to do as command. "OH and send them the facial pics as well."

"Robar," Tech said his brows furrowing.

"As in the sniper rifle."

"Exactly," Love said. "Either he's a sniper or the watch man in the operation. I'm assuming the latter since he seems more like a little bitch." Love slowly walked up to the woman who had barked orders. She tilted her head as the woman glared at her. "Oh nah mah eh wa (Your name is...?)" Oh yeah Love spoke Japanese.

“Sure I’ll let him know if I need anything” Kris replied as he looked at Jack,

“Mic I want you and Tristen go back to the station and get everyone available out in force” Kris replied as he stood up. “Plus see if there is anyway they can leave or where they would hide.” He added as he followed Vivian. Kris knew Mic did not like it that they would have to be absent from the meeting with the ambassador. It bothered Kris only slightly if the contents were dangerous or held dangerous items that may hurt his people.

“Aya You coming” Kris replied as he neared the elevator door

“Right Sir” she quickly replied as she ran to catch up to Kris.

He listen to her asked what their feelings were on this strange case. It was strange before he would have been hired to search, destroy, and get back the item. He wanted to be there when the Ambassador told them everything. However, hey if he could not then oh well, but there was always the listen device he had on himself.

“I’m not sure what Aya, thinks but it bothers me slightly, the Ambassador didn’t have any guards near him as with the Navy Officer” Kris replied as he looked at her.

“The Ambassador is in his second office since we locked down his normal one to keep all evidence intact.” Kris replied, “The wife didn’t like it at all” he added with a slight smile on his face. “You should watch her she has a wicked tongue and she’ll try to treat as her personal servants by telling you how to run things”

“If we find them and they resist do we shoot to kill or take them alive” Kris asked her. He wanted to know so he could tell the others what to do. However, it was that girl he seen those eyes before but he could figure out from where. All he figured it was back when he was a kid which he don’t have much memories of only bits and pieces.

The elevator ride up was slightly cramped, with Vivian and her team, and Kris and Aya. So far the Commander hadn't spoken to the other woman standing with them, and for now she would keep it that way. She was content to stand and think, although she was picking up some strange feelings of those around her.

Nervousness was an obvious one, but that shown with visual evidence, twitches of the face, tight muscles and over alert stance.

But there was something under all of that, in Kris, he didn't show it on the outside but Vivian knew he had gut feelings that he wasn't telling them. For now she would let him think on the matter, and instead turned to Jack.

"Put a flag on any known associates and kin of the three criminals, if anyone accesses or logs information about them, I want to know about it and make sure they know that we are looking into these persons."

Turning back to Kris, she breathed in deeply, in a conscious thought.

"They may have contacts within this office, helping to minimize any security or guards around when they decided to make a move. And I dare say that the Navy Officer being here was information available to only a few people close to the Ambassador and the military. We have suspects now, and I'm declaring the Ambassador, his wife, the Assistant and any security or administrative staff who have access to appointment files. We'll also add anyone who knew the Officer would be here on the military side."

The suspects were all in rather high areas of the UA, she assumed there would be secrets to hide even if not directly associated with the case. And tracking down the suspects and leads would be dangerous because anyone could be a risk for them to talk to. "For now, we need leads and people to answer questions. Issue non-lethal rounds to all people on this case, and make sure they also carry lethal rounds in case they are fired on. However, I trust your men can aim sufficiently to avoid killing the targets."

The elevator was only a few floors off the second offices level when she turned to Kris. "Would you remain in the elevator for a moment, Aya and my team can announce we are here. I have a few questions for you personally."

“I also make coffee too,” Jack said drably, his focus mostly upon the datapad in his grasp. He seemed to be barely paying attention through the whole conversation, and in all actuality, it was true. He cared little for the banter between the group as a whole, it seemed for the most part he only responded when Vivian said something, either to the group at large or at him directly.

His gaze drifted up from the glossy screen of the pad as they began to get up from the table. With an unabashed sigh he pushed up from his seat and collected his gear. Those deep brown eyes flickered about the room in general; Jack might appear at first glance to care little for the situation at hand but the man was no fool. He sized up the UA security team, allowing his gaze to linger far too long upon the female; hey, she was pretty damn cute. It was only then that he followed suit and that curious gaze fell upon his own commander. Now there was something he could follow all day. It was a sight that brought him some inspiration, and when the bullets were flying at the ground shaking; Jack couldn’t deny feeling safer than near Vivian. Yet none of those heartwarming thoughts kept him from ravishing her from behind, she might be a commander in the military, might be a no nonsense warrior built for battle, she was still beautiful.

It was the first time Jack felt a little tension in the air, when Vivian leaned closer. Had she been reading his thoughts? Jack never knew if she had some crazy powers; there was always some mystery to her after all. He listened intently to her whisper, offering a subtle nod and that all too common lopsided smile. “You know I always enjoy watching the world through your eyes,” He couldn’t help but retort before the ding of the elevator and the swish of the doors caught their attention.

The elevator music seemed so out of place, Jack couldn’t help but chuckle under his breath at the absurdness it brought to the situation. He shifted uncomfortably in the small confines of the elevator, grasping his gear to his chest like a schoolgirl hugging her books.

“I will once I get some room to breath. Hope no one lets one fly…that’s against military protocol y’know,” He said, his voice seemingly muffled by the mass of bodies around him.

There isn't a whole lot for a man to do in the docking bay of a major city when the whole place has been locked down and all you've got to keep you company are 25,000 packs of condoms. And so Angus tried his best to stay busy. He checked out whatever that rattling sound had been (wrench in an airduct), then set about taping up the frayed wires under the control panel of the bridge. He'd have to get replacements the next time he passed a junk ship.

Angus sat beside the Bouncing Betty, morosely eating on a freeze-dried meal in a bag that he had... "acquired" from the wreck of a UA scout ship. It wasn't as if the crew was going to need the food, though how anyone could even call this stuff "food" was beyond him. It had all the vitamins, minerals and protein needed to stay alert, active and a productive soldier, but that didn't stop it from tasting like garbage.

He was almost finished when he heard someone politely cough behind him. Angus turned to see two men and a woman standing there. The first man, wirey and slight, offered Angus a pleasant smile. The second man had a bit of a beer gut on him and a deep frown on his face, while the woman seemed a little nervous. All the same, they didn't give Angus cause for concern.

"Excuse me," said the first man. "We couldn't help but notice you here by your ship and wanted to ask whether or not you could do us a favour?"

"Sorry," said Angus, turning back to his meal of half-digested cardboard. "Not really in the business o' doin' favours."

"Well, maybe a business deal," said the first man, stepping a little closer. Angus replied with a grin.

"Now we're talkin'," he said. "What can I do for ya?"

"We need transport to the outer rim," said the man. "If you were to take us there, we'd be very grateful."

"How grateful?," asked Angus.

"Take your usual rate and add a zero for every hundred thousand miles from here to there," answered the man. Angus did some quick arithmetic in his head. His jaw dropped when he reached a final total.

Gathering himself, he smiled and said, "That's very grateful! You've got a deal."

"Wonderful!," said the first man. The others seemed to give a sigh of relief as they headed towards the cargo ramp.

"We'll go as soon as the lockdown is lifted," said Angus. The trio stopped and turned to him.

"What?," said the first man.

"Well, there's a security lockdown," said Angus, standing and walking up the ramp. "No one in or out until it's lifted. Hell, I can't even get this cargo unloaded 'til then." He pointed at the stacks of boxes filling the hold and shrugged.

"But we can't wait!," said the first man, now a little nervous himself.

"What can I tell ya? It sucks for everyone," said Angus. He turned and started inside, saying, "I can show you your rooms, anyway. I'm sure it'll only be another couple of hours."

"We need to leave now," said the woman. She may have had a look of severe unease on her face, but her voice came out sounding strong and assertive.

"Look, honey, I don't know what you want me to do," said Angus. "It's not like I can just blast my way through the security doors."

"That's exactly what you'll do," said the woman, pulling a gun from under her coat. Angus almost cried out in shock, but bit his tongue when the two men pulled out weapons of their own. Meanwhile, his guns were locked safely away in preparation for his arrival here. God damn security protocols.

"Get this heap of junk in the air," said the woman, marching forward.

"The Bouncing Betty is not junk!," replied Angus as he turned around, but the gun in his back kept him from saying much else. He was pushed forward into the bridge and forced to sit down. With the woman still pointing her gun in his face, Angus closed the cargo ramp and sealed the doorways.

"They're gonna be pissed if I start this engine," he said.

"You're gonna be dead if you don't," said the woman.

It was a convincing argument. Angus fired the preliminary thrusters and the ship slowly started to rise. Security officers ran out, waving their arms to stop him, but had to make a hasty retreat when his main engines kicked in with a wheeze of smoke and flame. Alarms rang out around the docking bay as Angus turned the ship to face the access doors.

"OK, blow those doors off!," yelled the woman.

"Fine, fine!," cried Angus. He flipped a few switches above him. A humming noise radiated through the ship.

"What the hell is that?," said the second man, his first words since this spaceship jacking began.

"The laser's warming up," said Angus.

"Laser?," said the first man. "What kind of laser? Military?"

Angus hesitated for a moment before muttering, "Mining."

"Are you fucking kidding me!?," screamed the woman.

"It's just as good as a military type!," said Angus. "It just needs a while to warm up, is all."

Meanwhile, the security guards had returned with weapons in hand. They fired on the Bouncing Betty with short, sustained bursts of gunfire. Thankfully, for all her faults, the Betty's one saving grace was a thick hull.

Not that it made being shot at any less nerve-wracking.

The elevator was slightly cramped but he got used to it, he could tell that most of them were at full military attention. But if one looked closely enough one could see that they were nervous. He also figured in that a few of them didn’t like having to work with UA security.

“ I’ll issue that order, I’ll tell them to use shock rounds, stun batons, and tasers. But if they have to use lethal rounds I’ll have them target no vital areas on their bodies” Kris replied as he quickly relayed what was told to him. He knew many of the officers wouldn’t like it but they will do as they were told or face severe consequences.

“ Most of the people on this case are fair shots,” Kris replied as he waited for the elevator to reach its destination. “ Everyone on the UA security team must pass a strict firearms course” He added as he heard the ding and the doors opened up. He was about to walk out but he heard Vivian ask if he would stay she had a personal questions to ask him.

“ Very well” Kris replied as he looked at Vivian, Kris slowly turned to Aya and with a nodded of his head he let her know to go on ahead without him.

He didn’t know what she would ask him about, maybe it would be about his past in the UIN military. Or it would it about something else entirely different. He didn’t know what it would be about but he would try to answer her questions the best he could.

Kris watched as Aya left with the others and only he and Vivian remained on the elevator. With a flip of a switch he locked the elevator in place and it left them in private. The elevators wouldn’t go up or down nor would the doors open up.

“ So what is you need to know” Kris asked her as leaned up against the elevators wall and looked at her

The elevator stopped on the top floor, and the music was drowned out by the doors opening. For the most part Vivian had ignored Jack's usual non-military professionalism, once again as long as he did his job she would be fine. But sometimes he had to make comments that just didn't seem right, ignoring those seemed best, at least that's what she hoped.

As the team moved out of the elevator Kris locked it in place and they were sent into a emergency red darkness. No alarms would ring unless they pressed that button, but it did make the space seem all the more smaller.

She turned and crossed her arms, narrowing her eyes just a little whilst remaining at ease. There were readings she was picking up off this man, ones that were fuzzy and muffled, ones that were beginning to make the back of her head throb trying to pick up on.

"Do you know something you are not telling me? About who we may be dealing with? That woman to be specific...you have been acting odd since seeing her image."

That was her main question, the one she needed the answer to. But the unease didn't seem to relent once she had asked the question.

"Does this have anything to do with your military background? Black Watch maybe?"

“I’m not sure but I can’t remember anything before the age of 15,” Kris replied as he lowered his head. “But it’s her eyes I think I seen them before a long time ago” he added.

“All that I can remember is bits and pieces of my childhood” He started, as he looked at her “It’s always the same I see myself looking out of a glass tube. And those people dressed in white coats looking at me, studying me.” Kris whispered. “One of the things I remember the most is seeing several figures in military dress walking in a line looking at others like me. With them was a girl and boy with a person who I assume is their father or grandfather” Kris said “the boy look like he was amused with what he saw, the girl didn’t it was as if she wanted to tell the others to stop it” he added.

The next question almost caught him off guard, not many people knew that only the UA government officials and the UA military personal. Kris stood there silent for a while it was as if he was looking for the right answer to her question. It was only recently he found out the true nature of the Black Watch and why they were created.

“Well I’m sure you heard about The UIN attempts in making super soldiers through out the war and even now.” Kris replied. “The Black Watch was the official name they gave us but in reality we were address as the Genesis Project” Kris replied.

Once he told her that he could see she was a little more interested in what he had to say about the Black Watch than what was on file with them. “Each member of the Black Watch are given drugs daily to make them more susceptible in taking orders from their commanding officers. But the suits that they gave us to wear also hand a device that would inject into us to make us stronger and ignore pain.” Kris replied

“ If you can find the file it will list many former members of the Black Watch who escaped death and captured went insane and becoming serial killers.” he replied “ even the ones who were captured are kept in insane asylums all of them mentally unstable. But for some reason I’m not affected” Kris said as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small data card.

“This is a list of others who are not affected, out of the fifty names on their 30 went missing, all of them have different jobs, different social status, some have families some don’t.” Kris replied as he handed her the data card.

Jack followed the flow of bodies out from elevator. Whatever had to be said in private, Jack wasn’t entirely sure he wanted to know about it. With another exaggerated sigh he leaned against a nearby wall, one hand combing through his hair and smoothing back a few strands from his face. He couldn’t help but allow his gaze to wander to the other woman from UA security. Quickly his mind tried to recall her name, and with a swift few keystrokes he called it up. Slowly he pushed up from the wall and made his way through the small crowd of well armed killers until he came to stand beside the one know as Aya.

“I don’t think we’ve been properly introduced,” Jack said in a soft voice, flashing a quick and all too friendly smile. “Jack Slade, at your service. I’m Commander Knox’s tech specialist. You need anything…anything…I can do it no problems.” There was little doubt in Jack’s mind that this happened all the time to the tanned skinned, blue eyed beauty; but hey, why not give it a shot. It wasn’t as if Jack wasn’t the handsome type, and he could be charming when he wanted to be (which didn’t happen a lot). They had some time to waste anyway, though no doubt everyone else wouldn’t agree to such.

“This all seems a little…odd to me,” Jack began causally, his right hand drifting up to press his glasses back further on the bridge of his nose. “It just seems all too easy.”

"Hmmm," Vivian hummed as she accepted the data card. Looking at it she took out the small personal data pad she kept in her breast pocket, and inserted the card into the side slot. She scanned the card for viruses and encryption, ran a standard decryption program over it before viewing the files. All took less than fifteen seconds.

In the mean time, she thought on the matter. Fifty people who had the same capabilities as Kris were out there, and many could still have strong ties to the UIN. It was a rather annoying little security threat...but just because she knew about it now didn't mean they would suddenly begin to destroy everything. They may have time, and some may have just gone off and become hermits or turned their lives around like Kris had, working for the UA.

Not that the UA often gave a great choice when it came to alliances.

"So do you suffer side effects?"

Vivian was quiet sure that Kris' skills were going to waste in the UA Security sector. He was plainly military grade, probably still felt unsure of his position in the world. Or maybe he liked to not follow the 'yes sir, no sir' attitude in life.

"Your talents are obviously wasted here. Would you consider joining my team if this case moves beyond UA Security jurisdiction? Unfortunately the rest of your team cannot follow."

Her data pad beeped three times, and she slipped the card back out and passed it to Kris. She would look more closely later, after interviewing the Ambassador. But she would hear Kris' answers first. Ripping the velcrofibre pocket up off her vest, she removed a small glass vial that contained tablets. Each was red in colour and round, and full of liquid. Tipping two into her gloved palm, she tossed them into her mouth, tipping her head back to swallow.

That should stop the throbbing for a while.
