Google is not my friend here.

The song is "Leaving on a Jet Plane." Written by John Denver (yeah, yeah). Performed by Peter Paul and Mary but I've heard their version and the version I have is not theirs. But damned if I can identify it.

I downloaded this song and it is misidentified as "Janis Joplin" but no way that is her voice. It could be Bjork, Jewel (I don't know Jewel at all), but google says Jewel and bjork sang it as a duet. And this mp3 is definitely a solo.

Any music maven got some insight? I'll give you nude pics of Dolf...

Only solo artist I remember singing it was John Denver. He had that whiny high pitched voice that sounds like a girl.

No no, this is a female singer.

Bjork. Fab version.
It sounds like her but its not in her discography and the only reference is to a duet?

I googled too, here's what I got: Chantal Kreviazuk.

The all knowing google says she sung the version on the Armageddon soundtrack.

Hmmm...I will ask my bf when he gets home and see of he can shed any light, but I definitely heard it off the music server in his old house - his housemate had a ton of stuff. It was Bjork, and it was a solo. I'm sure.

I get lots of hits on google refering to Bjork's solo version, but nowhere you can actually buy it. Odd.

Stick with Peter, Paul and Mary.

Else, just enjoy it, and accept that you'll never know who or what you're listening to.

Their version is stilted, and I have it, and it's not the throaty abandoned Slavic sorrow stolen from the ether and saved to my impossibly capacious hard drive.
