What are your paragraph rules?

My Literotica paragraph rules:

1. Keep them short. No more than about 6 sentences. Average less than that. Lit readers don't want to wade through screens full of words with no white space.

2. Every dialogue speaker gets a separate paragraph. Don't ever put dialogue of two different characters in one paragraph.

3. Vary the length. I have some paragraphs that are just one sentence. I have others that are more than that. Variety is good.

Okay, great. Yeah, I'm not really going to pander to reader's perceptions (and I most certainly won't combine speakers into a single paragraph) but it's good to know that dialogue-heavy sections won't contribute to page count, if only for my peace of mind. Thanks!

I never did learn how to spell, – but I did learn the typesetter's rule, – "Set up type as long as you can hold your breath without turning blue in the face, then put in a comma. When you gape, put in a semicolon, and when you want to sneeze, that's the time to make a paragraph."
