Calculating in Base 60

Thirty eight rows?

The last bag of cat litter I bought was 38#. Of course, it makes perfect sense.

Dad used to balle on and on about how a base 60 system would make more sense.

Now I know where he got it . . . .

I had my 300' driveway redone at the lake yesterday.

The guy quoted me $315, which i thought was cheap.

Turns out it was 315 a load.

$3,000 dollars later, it looks great but costs ten times what i thought it was going to cost.

Math, fucking with me.

Looks like a new government park road now, all DOT spec and shit.

Tax assessor's wet dream. Boo.

Maybe we need more students of antiquities to read through the unread tablets.

The proof of the trig table is new, but we've always known they calculated in base 60, and it's been pretty obvious why- because they were concerned with circles and triangles, both for practical geometry and astral calculations. The fact that they chose base 60 demonstrates all by itself a very high order of mathematical thinking and previous experience. As a side note, this is the origin of the 360 degree circle, the 24 hour day, the sixty second minute and the sixty minute hour.
