Do you own your body?

I'm a man and I don't own my body. It belongs to my family, my employer, and my country. As long as the invisible hand of the market is holding a knife to your throat, you will never be free.

What does being a man have anything to do with belonging to your family, employer or your country? Women check all those boxes.

Your nihilism isn't a rationale for fetal enslavement.

In an article on funding a summer food program:

"Republican Gov. Tate Reeves' office declared it an unnecessary big government program, saying that if Washington D.C. Democrats had their way, "Americans would still be locked down, subjected to COVID vaccine and mask mandates, and welfare rolls would’ve exploded.”

Allen, who works as a transportation dispatcher and scheduler, thinks Reeves' priorities are misplaced. She pointed to the state's implementation of an abortion ban in 2022.

“Why do you care so much about my uterus and how many babies I’m having or aborting?” Allen said. “Why is that a concern when I still have to feed this child, but you’re not helping me do that?”"

Translation of posts like the one you responded to:

"Men face the EXACT SAME issues as women in 2024 America ".

That ^ is a variation on the "republicans" and "third party-ers" regurgitating the "both sides are equally as bad", when talking about Democrats.

🙄

Trans men could make that claim, and it would probably be an understatement.

🤔

“Why do you care so much about my uterus and how many babies I’m having or aborting?” Allen said.
From the anti-abortion perspective, they care because they believe it's literally the killing of a human being.
“Why is that a concern when I still have to feed this child, but you’re not helping me do that?”"
Difficulty feeding a person isn't rational justification for killing them. It's like arguing I can't be against murdering a human being unless I'm prepared to house and feed them personally.

Damn right it isn't. I want to see church, state, capital, community, and family abolished so that nobody is enslaved. Nobody should have to be a means to somebody else's ends.

The anti-choice people claim they’re against abortion because it’s literally killing a human being, but if they really believed that they wouldn’t make exceptions for early-term abortions.

No, it’s about controlling and punishing women.

That depends entirely upon when one thinks a human being exists in the womb during the process of a pregnancy.
No, it’s about controlling and punishing women.
That's just provocative nonsense spouted to delibrately induce emotional and vitriolic rehtoric about the issue.

If you think a fertilized egg is a human being then you should support banning all abortion, not make an exception for the first few weeks of pregnancy. Personally, I follow scripture. Human life begins when the newborn draws its first breath. Until then, it's the woman's choice.

You're correct, that would definitely be a consistent position on the issue.

I don't agree with the stated premise, but your logic is sound.

I personally reject any and all appeals to religious scripture or reasoning.

No, it’s about controlling and punishing women.
The main aim, even beyond controlling and punishing women, is to distract people from pointing out billionaire profiteering at our expense, aiming to get us angry about culture war issues instead.

Idaho has lost 51 obstetricians since near-total abortion ban came into effect in '22
More than 50 Idaho obstetricians have stopped practicing in the state since a near-total abortion ban took effect in August 2022, according to a newly released report.

Data compiled by the Idaho Physician Well-Being Action Collaborative also shows that only two obstetricians moved to the state to practice in the last 15 months, the Idaho Statesman reported on Tuesday. Obstetricians provide health care during pregnancy and childbirth.

The number of obstetricians in Idaho decreased from 227 in 2022 to about 176 in 2023, a decline of 51 doctors, the report said. The Idaho Physician Well-Being Action Collaborative was created in 2018 by local doctors to address problems affecting physicians and patients in Idaho communities, according to its website.
so almost a quarter of its obs... which means those most in need of the care are less likely to be able to receive it, with the shut down of hospital obstetrics programs being a reality, 2 already closed, a third in real danger.

The forced covid vaccination of hospital staff didn't help the situation as well..... you know the "my body, my choice" thing

no, because the negligence of stupid staff who thought that their risking spreading a terrible and novel virus in hospital settings where, as is to be expected, patients are incredibly vulnerable seemed like a good hill to die on (sometimes literally). Hospital staff should be far more up on the science (and their patients' wellbeing) instead of placing conspiracy theories, disinformation and pie in the fucking sky religious notions first.

the whole concept of 'my body, my choice' extends as far as you not compromising the health of another person, such as in the smoking bans and drink/drugs driving bans. While a fetus remains inside the woman's body, it is totally dependent on her body to construct and feed and oxygenate it. Her body should take priority as a standard, unless SHE chooses to place the fetus before herself. It's often been a case of a woman whom, when given the choice of saving her own life or the pregnancy she's delivering will place the fetus' life before her own. Women who opt not to do so will have a plethora of reasons, the least not wanting to die themselves.

i'm not religious and i don't see why some people's investment in stories intended to comfort and help them accept life's struggles should take precedent over medical science in any scenario involving, well, medical science.

Well said.

But how disappointing / frustrating that it had to be said AGAIN.

Which means you fully support a women's right to do things like meth/drugs, drink alcohol, etc while pregnant, right?

Please, if you will tell me what scripture states this?
Are you a Christian? I’m going to assume yes. Let me apologize now, as a nonbeliever, my embarrassment in having to explain to you your own biblical scripture. You may have missed it in your readings because it’s deep into the Bible before you see it. You have to open all the way to, ya know, Genesis. Here is the verse:

Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. (Genesis 2:7)
