(If this has been done before - forgive me ..)

If your life was a song - what song would it be?

Mine: Born To Fly (and hell if I know the artist)

That would be Tom Petty(I think), celia kitten

I would choose the entire album Loveless by My Bloody Valentine...read nothing into the title...the sonic structure of the album sums up my life pretty well thoguh.

The only Born To Fly I know of is by Sara Evans. If my life were a song, it would be I Will Be by Lila. About a guy that hides from the world, because he gets picked on, but, he decides that life is worth living, despite the assholes.

"Ripple" by Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia

If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine
And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung,
Would you hear my voice come thru the music,
Would you hold it near as it were your own?

It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken,
Perhaps they're better left unsung.
I don't know, don't really care
Let there be songs to fill the air.

Ripple in still water,
When there is no pebble tossed,
Nor wind to blow.

Reach out your hand if your cup be empty,
If your cup is full may it be again,
Let it be known there is a fountain,
That was not made by the hands of men.

There is a road, no simple highway,
Between the dawn and the dark of night,
And if you go no one may follow,
That path is for your steps alone.

Ripple in still water,
When there is no pebble tossed,
Nor wind to blow.

You who choose, to lead must follow
but if you fall, you fall alone
If you should stand then who's to guide you?
If I knew the way I would take you home.

how about my life in a song, since I got married a few months ago?

I actually went back and watched my wedding video, where I got up at the reception, and sang this song to my wife.

More Than That - Backstreet Boys

there is no one song that would discribe me

but i can take parts of all kinds of songs to make me :)

I'll get back later with a list if i can lol

Born To Fly

I think you're right nasty.

Here's the chorus:

How do you wait for Heaven?
And who has that much time?
And how do you keep your feet on the ground
when you know that you were born to fly?

You're on the top of my list of people to call if I'm ever on 'Who Wants to be a Millionare?'

Hasten Down The Wind
Written by Warren Zevon 1973 Warner-Tamerlane Publishing Corp./Darkroom Music BMI

She tells him she thinks she needs to be free
He tells her he doesn't understand
She takes his hand
She tells him nothing's working out the way they planned

She's so many women
He can't find the one who was his friend
So he's hanging on to half her heart
He can't have the restless part
So he tells her to hasten down the wind

Then he agrees he thinks she needs to be free
Then she says she'd rather be with him
But it's just a whim
By which she hopes to keep him on the limb

She's so many women
He can't find the one who was his friend
So he's hanging on to half her heart
He can't have the restless part
So he tells her to hasten down the wind

IF

IF ..........
If a picture paints............
a thousand words
Then why can't I paint you
The words will never show,
The you I've come to know
If a face could launch a thousand ships
Then where am i to go
There's no one but you
You're all that's left me to...

And when my love for life
Is running dry
You come and pour yourself on me

If a man could be
two places at one time
I'd be with you...
Tomorrow and today
Besides you all the way
.......If the world should stop
Revolving spinnin' slowly down to die
I'd spend the end with you
And when the word was through

Then one by one
the stars would all go around
Then you and I would simply fly away

Thanks Draco!!! I appreciate the tip. I never know who sings these things.

THe Dance

This song reminds me of how precious or life is, and, how much of that time I wasted sitting on my ass.

AMEN to that, Nasty! I agree and love that song! You have great taste in music! :)

Now wait

What Power posted is "If" by Bread, from I'd say 1971. Time in a Bottle is more like

If I could catch time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd want to do
Is spend every day 'til eternity passes
Again, just to spend them with you.

So what's up, Draco? You've got me bewildered here, did I miss a hunk of this thread somewhere. You're right on the date of Croce's death... but...

Power, that is a beautiful song, one of my all time favorites, and remarkably musically complex considering the era was full of formulaic, over-produced hits in the simplest imaginable idioms.

Personally, I'm trying to pick from several, so I'll get back to you... Peter Gabriel and Steve Winwood are topping the list, but I keep free-associating and the effect is to broaden rather than hone it down.

Over the Rainbow/ What a Wonderful World done by IZ Kamakawiwo'ole as heard in 'Meet Joe Black' and 'Finding Forrester'. I haven't seemed to get enough of this lately...

"... and the dreams that you dream of... dreams really do come true..."

I'm No Angel

If you gave me just a coin for every time we say goodbye
Well I'd be rich beyond my dreams, I'm sorry for my weary life
I know I'm not perfect but I can smile
And I hope that you see this heart behind my tired eyes
If you tell me that I can't, I will, I will, I'll try all night
And If I say I'm coming home, I'll probably be out all night
I know I can be afraid but I'm alive
And I hope that you trust this heart behind my tired eyes
I'm no angel, but please don't think that I won't try and try
I'm no angel, but does that mean that I can't live my life
I'm no angel, but please don't think that I can't cry
I'm no angel, but does that mean that I won't fly
I know I'm not around each night
And I know I always think I'm right
I can believe that you might look around
I'm no angel, but please don't think that I won't try and try
I'm no angel, but does that mean that I can't live my life
I'm no angel, but please don't think that I can't cry
I'm no angel, but does that mean that I won't fly.

Whew.

See, Croce's Time in a bottle also has

But there never seems
To be enough time
To do the things
We wanna do once we find them

I've looked around
enough to know
that you're the one
I wanna go through time with

I'm soooo confused
