Siren's name thread made me wonder what y'all would name your kids? Or what y'all did name your kids. Any special reason you picked that? Elaborate if you want.

I named my son Isaac--not because of anythign special but because I had narrowed it down to Eric and Isaac when I was told he was a girl. I stopped working on the boy names after that. (Had an US every week from around 6 mths on).

When he came out with those huge things, I had to make a hasty decision. Isaac it was.

For a girl, I liek Celeste Noelle. Just because it is pretty and I think it would not be a liability at a job interview.

I have no children but I've always loved Rebecca Rose as a girl's first and middle names. For a boy, I like an unusual name - Micah- which would likely be shortened to Mike.

I love Noelle as a name for a girlie

:p

My daughters name is Spencer Nicole. I've always liked the name Spencer and settled on it.

I don't have any children but I like...

Emma or Grace for a girl

Cade or Aidan for a boy

I don't have a list of names for my children. The following is my list of no way, my child will not be named that.

Joshua, Robert, Christopher, Steven, Cesar, Tony (or any variation), Dennis, Xavier, Trevor, Austin, Dallas, Marsellis, Carlos, Christian, Aaron, Devon (or Devonte), Eric, James (Jimmy), Ian, Justin, Desmond (sorry gleam), Logan, Noah, anything that can be shortened to BJ or DJ

Emily, April, Jonnequa, Megan, Paula, Zakkiyah, Paris, Sunshine, De Aujae, Deja, Ashia, Sarah, Esmeralda, Rhonda, Debra (or any variation), Charlotte, Jacqueline, Jennifer, Michelle

I'm sure I've forgotten a couple and will probably add a few more to the list before I have kids.

Geeze Morning, been thinking on this long?

:p

Siren, that was my NEVER, EVER, EVER list. Each and everyone of those names give me an immediate rise in stress.

I have always hated

Walt, Gertrude, Mimi, Georgia, and others.

"Walt" tops the list though. I truly don't think I could holler that during orgasm! (being straight, I doubt I would ever have an occassion to holler the others either.

one of my cats is named Stupid.... i don't think anybody's going to let me name a kid...

Suggestion if I might....dont name your kid any name that has potential for being made fun of, it is traumatic....

LOLOLOL--

My niece was named

Vicki Daniels.

No kidding. Her initials were a source of teasing all her childhood.

To make it worse, her middle name was Gaye.

My sister was horrified when her ADULT daughter pointed it out to her --she had named her after a character on some vampire soap opera that was on in the late 60's. (Dark Shadows?)

Mink, my very favorite doll when I was little was named Stupid. It was bald and naked when I played with it. I always considered Stupid to be a male, but "he" now has clothes and is female. My grandmother has "him" in a yellow dress and he sleeps in the room I use when I visit.

My kids are Kelsey Louise and Connor Edward.

Both got stuck with family middle names. There was never any real choice at all for either kid with respect to middle names. They were sorta carved into stone before i had either kid, to be honest. Any other choice for middle names would have caused more family discord than i was willing to deal with.

Both are the first choice names for that gender at the time that kid was born.

Before Kelsey (she spells it "Kelsie" now - you know how teenagers do that name-change thing) was born, i'd never heard of the name outside Kelsey Grammar, the actor. I picked it from a baby names book. At the precise moment i gave my new daughter the name, a gazillion parents all over the world were doing the same with thier new daughters, thus instantly propelling the name onto all the Popular Baby Names lists for that year (1988).

Connor is less common, though becoming more alarmingly common with every month, it seems. I think part of that rise in popularity has to do with the death of Eric Clapton's son, Connor, a few years ago and publicity that resulted from that horrible accident. (Tears From Heaven came from his Connor's death).

I still love both names.

But it was a nice diatribe of mine wasnt it?

hahaha

I think I need to eat dinner now,

It was a very good diatribe. The only thing I would add is don't give your child a name that is going to take them the entire year of Kindergarten to learn to spell. One of my kids this year had 9 letters in his first name and 9 letters in his last name. Finally by the end of the year he could spell the first, still working on the last name.

reading of unfortunate pairings of names that parents have made (V.D. in particular) reminds me of a couple of people I know...

Tom Collins
Peter Parker (nope, he's not really spiderman)
Bill Batson (nope, not the real Captain Marvel either)
Swee Hart (she actually married into this name)

When I have them..

Kaiya Nicole for a girl

Nicholas John for a boy.

Back up first names are Joshua and Kaylin, no middles picked out yet.

The two names I picked out when I was a kid were Angelena Maria and Corey James.

Angelena Maria ended up being used, and Corey James changed into Jerome after his father.

I had a teacher in high school named Jim Beam LOL

My choices:

Girls

Lillie Christina....great grandmother/mother, and best friend or
Anna Michelle...variation of best friend's middle name, and name of another best friend

haven't really thought about boys names, but I will lol

Our Children are
David (the name of the Number one son for generations)
Leanda, Jayne - an original name at the time as far as we know, derived from Leander which is Greek and masculine.
Alexander - not the Hero, but after Alexander Beetle, a song by Melanie
Andrew James- because "he's just an Andrew"

My bratchild is the third in a series. And only because they were between me and a totally necessary hot shower. A few minutes more and I would have killed someone.
