Grateful for smoked grain meat substitutes. Sometimes a stew is needed, when it is below the freezing point, outside. Fresh, home-made bread for mopping up the gravy completes the comfort meal.
 
The turkey stew for Friday's dinner started on the wood stove on T-giving evening. The cabin smelled fantastic!
 
Made venison bone broth the other week and it was pretty amazing.

Just threw in whatever bones my hunter friend gave me plus:
Fresh sage, thyme, rosemary
Bay leaves
Onions halved
Carrot
Celery
Garlic
Ginger
Salt/pepper

Brought to a boil and simmered for about 24 hours

Add juniper berries and a good red wine and you have an aunt's venison stock.
 
Good to know, thank you! I even had red wine handy, dammit. I've never used juniper berries before in stock so that'll be interesting. :)

She used juniper berries, many other Native American 'erbs and spices, berries, stuff she and the other aunts learned from their mother and aunts.
 
Tonne of chocolate flows out of factory in Westönnen, coating the pavement

A street in a western German town got a repaving worthy of Willy Wonka when a tonne of chocolate flowed out of a factory and solidified on the pavement.

The German newspaper Soester Anzeiger reported that a “small technical defect” involving a storage tank caused the chocolate to spill out from the DreiMeister chocolate factory in Westönnen.

About 25 firefighters worked to pry the chocolate off with shovels. They also used hot water and torches to remove remaining bits from cracks and holes.

Post-toast, boil like pasta.

Homemade Bacos (for vegetarians)

240ml vegetable stock
120ml apple juice
10g dried mushrooms
2tbsp soy sauce
5tbsp maple syrup
1tbsp miso paste
4tbsp sweet smoked paprika
2tbsp liquid smoke
1 red onion, finely chopped and sautéed​
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped and sautéed
100g tinned chickpeas, drained
1tsp dried sage
½tsp fennel seeds
1tsp sea salt
1tsp black pepper
300g vital wheat gluten
4tbsp chickpea flour
3tbsp nutritional yeast

For the “streak”

80g firm tofu
120ml soy milk (or other non-dairy milk)
100g canned chickpeas, drained
1tsp onion salt
¼tsp garlic powder
1tsp dried tarragon
1tbsp white miso paste
1tsp white pepper
130g vital wheat gluten
2tbsp chickpea flour
1tbsp nutritional yeast
