Apologies for the title. :)

Further to writing an article on fat fetishism, I wanted to ask a same question that I asked on a fat acceptance forum. Please know beforehand that in posting to this thread, I may quote your handle.

I asked:

"I'm certain that we have all heard the term or terms BBW, plumper, chaser and feeder, particularly in regards to adult sites. I think that no where else in culture do we find such an overt objectification of the big woman. I wondered how (as a big person) you see these sites, or what your thoughts are regarding the representation/objectification of fat women on these types of sites and also how you feel such depictions compare to the overall POV in current Western culture?

Thank you in advance for responding.

I love it.

I mean, I'm not your average woman -I view porn generally in a very positive light. I'm glad to see big women being shown as sexually attractive - because we are, to some people out there. Just like some people like their women skinny, others like them plump, it's good to see that acknowledged.

What I really like is how these ladies have the self ocnfidence to do it, they appear naked for men and women the world over to oggle -now that takes some balls, especially with society being much more accepting of skinny women -or at least the media concentrates far more on thinner models.

The only thing I can say negatively about the plumper sites is that soem of their models ar just not big enough. When I see a lovely looking average sized woman with a teeny bit of belly on a BBW site I sigh. She may be a Beautiful Woman but she's missing the key factor "Big."

However, maybe my perception of "Big" isn't the same as society and the porn industries :)

Thanks EL!:D Beautiful response.

One of the things I say in my article is: "In a culture that values Pamela Anderson's big tits, J-Lo's big butt and any man's big penis, it's almost ironic that big people are not equally put on a similar pedestal. "

Any responses from anyone?

We've been doing a thread on a related issue here, if it's any help to you.

The separation of big women from other women as sex objects is an intreguing thing. It used to be that a curvaceous or Rubanesque woman was a standard of beauty, suggesting, health, sexuality, fruitfulness (able to bear lots of kids), motherliness, etc. We can trace this all the way back to the Willendorf Venus:

The big bellied and full breasted woman as powerful and sexual--and possibly this is because it reflected pregnancy as well as motherhood.

But somewhere along the way (talked about in that "women's shapes" thread), the "big" woman became different category. The ideal woman (for men) is still curvaceous, but lacks the belly or heavy thighs/arms like our Venus there. This means that a man who has a sexual attraction to a "Venus"--categorized as BBW--is now seen as having a fetish.

When I wrote up my story of a man attracted to big women, I did a little research into men who like really big women, and put in a little of this fetish aspect. Most of the men tend to say the same thing, that they love being enfolded and feeling safe and comforted in a woman's softness.

Um...is any of this relevant to what you're asking or am I totally off course? :D

I know from plus-size myself, by the way, but I'm short. Does that put me in a different category?

hi charley,

i had a go at your question in my thread a while back. but i'd add, along the lines of 'english lady,' that 'fat' at some sites is actually fairly normal. (MM* is now said to be fat.) same with 'hairy' [-- a certain number of the 'hairy' girls are statistically normal.]

oddly, the hairless waif is the standard (along with the hairless, porn-Barbie or Vargas girl). "skinny" is far rarer than "fat" as a niche because there's hardly any territory for 'skinny.'

My next article is on hirsute, so I will be sure to hit you upon it  I asked a straight question:

I ignore the Venus of Willendorf for a reason, 3113.:) I do not mean to ignore you.

Excuse me please....which MM are you refering to?....I believe those 6.5 lbs are due to water retention....back down 2 lbs today....to 119.5 lbs...

And one thing I am NOT is hairy.....2 months ago I donated to "Locks of Love"...

Sorry...if you were not referring to this MM.......(I like to be called Misty BTW)...

Indeed. It also should be remembered that fashions shift, but at any given moment this seems "impossible," because the current "standard" is perceived to be 'timeless.' Never say never when it comes to fashion, and the relative so-called attractiveness of waifs vs. the women of Rubens is purely a matter of fashion.

I know Pure has brought up the issue and I appreciate the link, yet I am asking a more direct question. Thank you, though.

Must I repeat myself? The question WAS ...

"I'm certain that we have all heard the term or terms BBW, plumper, chaser and feeder, particularly in regards to adult sites. I think that no where else in culture do we find such an overt objectification of the big woman. I wondered how (as a big person) you see these sites, or what your thoughts are regarding the representation/objectification of fat women on these types of sites and also how you feel such depictions compare to the overall POV in current Western culture?"

(perhaps I should dumb my question down?)

so true... considering the 80's fashions are now coming back in style:

and I thought that would NEVER happen.

Now I'm waiting for big hair and big combs and feathered roach clips to come back "in"...

/Threadjack ;)
Gawd! that was awful. I was reminded of it last night when I shared this wonderful song with Vana: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcUMLqmuqQY

(That dress in your picture is cu-ute though! :) )

Edited to add: Uh-oh, I think I'm in trouble.

Alright, Alright!

Yes, damn you, it's all of a piece with the West's objectification of women!

(Not that many other cultures aren't just as bad or much worse in this respect.)

("Damn you" said in jest above. My opinion is sincere, though.)

Well, if you are too dumb (we all know that) - to answer the question? Get off the thread. :D

Okay, here's my take on the BBW thing...

There are way too many men out there preying on the fragile self-esteems of "big" women under the guise of "loving" them. This culture makes anyone who isn't a size 5 feel like they're a heifer, and unlike Charley, who's never been anything but thin, I know first hand what it's like NOT to be thin.

The feminine wants to be seen and loved. In our culture, BBW's are seen as repulsive and are abhored (I'm speaking generally here)... (never mind that WHAT percentage of the US population is considered "obese" now!?)

There are a lot of BBW women out there who are doing it because they get a taste of what it is to be "seen" and "loved" as beautiful... unfortunately, while there ARE people out there who appreciate a larger form, there are way way way too many others who are doing nothing but taking advantage of them.

I hear EL's point, and I get it... but I also think that there are a lot of women who aren't necessarily proud of their shape, but rather are doing it simply because they have felt so incredibly deprived of their basic birthright: their own beauty. They would do anything to feel it, just for a moment, even if it's not "real"... including taking their clothes off for some guys on a webcam or for pictures or videos to be taken, just to get a taste of what it feels like to be "beautiful."

But most of them still don't believe it. And never will.

I would rather live in a culture where shape and size were irrelevant... a personal choice or preference, certainly, but not something so strange it would be made into a fetish.

I want larger women never to even QUESTION their beauty, not for one moment. It IS their birthright, they are entitled to it, and to make it into a "fetish" is beyond insulting.

So there. :p

Back on topic, Ms Charley?

Whether I'm too dumb or not others will have to decide for themselves, but I did add my answer as an edit to my previous post when I realized you were getting uppity about it in this fast moving thread.

Now, do you mind if Selena and I get back to some serious eye-rolling about '80s fashion disasters?
