Yes, I watch Reality TV

In a phrase, "Parental control." As in, block that asinine cartoon crap. I've seen some of the crap out there, via 'Hey Arnold' and 'Dora the Explorer.'

It's bullshit, scripted by punks no more than ten years older than your kids looking to make a buck by appealing to the lowest common denominator. They think it's cool and funny, and so do the kids. No one thinks about the long-term effects.

That's America's way, now . . . .

They watch mostly Power Rangers and Pokemon, stuff like that. I make them watch the news a lot, though, too. An Animal Planet and Discovery Channel.

I'd say you're 2 for 4, then. But what the hell do I know? I don't have any kids . . . .

I don't mind them watching silly cartoon shows. It helps feed the imagination. I had friends when I was growing up that never watched cartoons and never played with toys and they were the dullest, most rigid people I knew. Plus when they grew up they were the types that had kids by the time they were 16 and did jail time by the time they were in their 20s.

When my kids grow up they'll be harmless nerds, just like dad. ;)

Oh, i forgot one. This is sooo bad. "Scott Baio is 45 and Single."

Personally, I think Scott Baio is a hottie. Okay, he's Chachi, for God's sake and Charles. But, damn, he is very cute. So, I was easily sucked in on this one.

The funny thing is, I rarely watch TV. So how am I seeing all these reality shows???

That show was not what I expected..it was much better! It came out about the same time as Rock of Love (Bret Michels), so I thought it was another celeb trying to get some. Kind of neat hearing about his life growing up in the TV industry instead.

I missed all but the last episode of the first Survivor and have not missed one since. I am already in mourning because it seems there will be no more after the 12th..

This show actually reinforces my spiritual beliefs in both myself and people in general. :D

I enjoy Iron Chef - both of them. Gene Simmons..

OMG I forgot Family Jewels!! Borderline 'reality', but I have to say those are some abnormally well adjusted kids given who their parents are. :)

That MIGHT be a good point . . . .

Maybe I'm just old-fashioned. I catch the shit on Nick and network TV these days, and it honestly makes me cringe. There are some good values presented, but it's lost in the "flash-or-trash" style in which it is presented.

Again, I'm no parent.

I suppose, having kids now means being extraordinarily vigilant against many things. TV being just one of them. At the same time, your sons and daughters will be exposed to distatseful things long before we were, right? And it is the parents' duty to prepare for that. What we looked for at sixteen, they now seek at fourteen. The times, they are a-changing.

I just wonder when people will stand up and say, 'enough!'

I mean, isn't there that ONE POINT, when it becomes too much?

Eta: I posted this late, and I'm on pain meds. I don't take anything back, but I may have spoken out of context. Take it as you will, respond or discard. ;)

Let's hear it for the BBC! A new reality show for me to watch (though likely not new to UK folk): "How Clean is Your House?"

 I will never, ever, ever complain to guests that "the house is a mess." My gawd! I actually put dishes in the dishwasher, run it and put the clean dishes away, I have only one pet that I clean up after, I put my clothes away, toss out the garbage and run the garbage disposal....I'm the best housekeeper in the world! Who knew?

But maybe one of the U.K. people can explain...what's with the weird voice-over guy?

I enjoy the Amazing Race, but others I dont really care for.

Until the I discovered the "Top Designer" show. I am so far removed from the fashion scene its ridiculous, but I found that for the same reason I enjoyed the first season of the Apprentice, I enjoyed this one. What's that, the off-the-top-of-the-head creativity in a restricted time limit. And Tim Gunn. This should be the one show that I cannot stand, but its the opposite.
