yay. jury duty.

It is fun if you get selected to hear a low level criminal case.

I loved the ones I was on:

Guy accused of 'abduction' because he closed the door when he and his girlfriend had a fight. (hung jury - 11 to 1 for acquittal).

Guy accused of stealing steaks from grocery store and then attempting to return them for cash (lost receipt). 12 to 0 for conviction (the store video was rather persuasive).

You are so lucky. I wish they'd call me every week. I live for stuff like that. Being part of the system, holding someones fate in your hands, looking them in the eyes as you say "guilty as sin, your honor."

i actually don't care too much. i just hate boredom.

but, hey, i'll get forty bucks a day for sitting on my ass all day if i get past the first day, so that's something. that's an eighth of decent weed a day.

Were you the 1?

Make sure you mention that during voir dire.

My brother in law lives up there and smokes weed but said it's easier for him to just keep getting it the way he always has instead of fucking around with a doctor.

the law could be better. my niece has her card, but she didn't get it here. she got it in california. why? because there you can apparently haggle. she only paid fifty bucks to legally smoke pot. here it's $250. well, at least that's what i've heard. i really don't smoke enough anymore to seriously look into it.

I was called last spring, for 5 weeks running. I only had to go 1 time - for a rape case. Glad I wasn't even close to being seated.

I don't want to be summoned again . . . ever.

I did get my check very promptly, however - all $30 of it.

My one and only jury duty was quick:

Arrive at the county courthouse at 8
Go to the assigned court room by 9
Clerk takes attendance, gives us some gavel keychains
Open a book when the judge enters
He sits and tells us that the trial in which we were to be in had been settled out of court
We were dismissed 9:30..and told we'd still get paid for an entire day :D

That was 10 years ago. I'm waiting for another call. My wife spent a week on a hit and run case, being dismissed herself once it was found out she had worked with BOTH the ADA AND defense attorneys

Over 20 years I was involved in 100s of trials and countless hearings. I love being on the witness stand, cuz its a hoot to fuck lawyers and set them up to look like fools, especially when you know the law better than they do. Its also fun as hell to make the defendant lose it in court.

But most trials are boring.

man, i hope i get a keychain. my bowling pin and my aqua teen hunger force key chains could use the company.

Just walk in and say, "He looks guilty to me, let's get this show on the road!"

"That's the prosecuting attorney, sir."
