Yaoi

It is amazing the lengths to which the world will go just to entertain me.

cartoons?

okay, i enjoy hentai/manga, and now apparently there is yaoi. but honestly, i just can't appreciate any of it for more than it's artistic statement. i agree that it is amazing what the world will do to entertain us.

bishounen=pretty boys. Not a very good answer and I would like to learn more about.

Yaoi makes me hum happily. That was a lovely illustration, KM; thanks.

Close. Bishounen literally means 'beautiful youth.' Originally it referred exclusively to males in the 14-16 range or so, but the definition was later expanded to mean any attractive young male.

Totally in love with Shounen Ai. Yaoi kinda goes a bit far. I like my characters well developed. Though the one Yaoi I must admit I give into is Level C for the sheer cheesey goodness of it all.

Ok what are everyone's favorite Shounen Ai Yaoi's

I've got to say Ai No Kusabe. I just have to, the most incredibly romantic twisted ending ever. And when I went awwww, something inside me screamed that I was sick, but it didn't matter.

I should have read this before I posted before. No, bishounen means beautiful boy, not youth. Which is why we have the term bishojo which while used much less often means beautiful girl. The root of bishonen being shonen meaning boy. Hence Dragon Ball Z being shonen anime for boys. Sorry I will let my otakuness subside now.

I'll take your word for it, since I only know a few words of Japanese.

okay Links people please...links. Thanks in advance

I've loved yaoi forever, it seems like. Whenever I get to go to Japan (my job lets me travel a lot) one of my first stops is a cute little bookstore near the Haneda (Tokyo) airport. My boss keeps asking me why I tend to build an 8 hour layover whenever I have to switch from Narita to Haneda. "Well, you see, I have this manga addiction...."

I've also had some luck finding them over here one of our bigger used bookstores. They usually stuff them in with the Japanese grammar texts, but sometimes I find them in the graphic novels, too.

Muffin, I don't mean to be insulting, but I sort of have problems with your site which explains it all, specifically that it says that shounen ai is the same thing as Yaoi. It's most definately NOT. That whole plot what plot thing does not apply to shounen ai at all, or at least not any of the stuff I've seen. As opposed to Level C which most definately has no plot. Here is what I think is a better explanation page.

Explanations Galore

No insult taken. That was the best thing I could find on the spur of the moment. Better information is always good!

:)

I should have found this thread looong ago :) I LOVE yaoi, shonen-ai... anything with a few hot bishonen... I guess I'm a weird kid... but, eh... I am especially enchanted by fan fiction - type yaoi... I like how people can twist non-sexual story lines into some kinky bishie-love ^-^ my favorite pairings are Heero and Duo from Gundam Wing and Quatre and Trowa from the same show... I've been pretty down & out in the $$$ department, so I haven't amassed a yaoi collection that I wish I could have, but one day... one day ^-^
