Downloading anything from aim or msn puts files into the my documents folder and when it does that it displays the full path to the folder to the other person, how do i change it so that my name isnt listed as part of that path?

Does that make sense?

It doesn't display even PART of the path to the other person, unless the person is looking at your screen. For AIM.

There is an option somewhere on AIM that allows you to toggle on and off whether to show people the full path of files when sending/recieving files. That person probably had theirs toggled to show.

Hmm... I've never seen another person's path and I don't see the option to turn it off.

Actually if you go into you setting for aim you have the ability to turn it off. You can also put things is a separate folder on your desktop or such just for down and up loading. Without your name on them, or change the name on your files (folder)

Upgrade to Linux or buy an iMac.

Unless the "Users" function in the control panel is complete different from earlier versions of Windows, you can change the location of "My Documents" from C:\Windows\profile\<your-name-here>\My Documents.

The path to my "My Documents" is "I:\MyDocs"

I would say its completely different. I'm using XP

by "XP" you do mean "Windows XP," correct?

I know Windows XP supports multiple users a bit differently than earlier versions of windows in that you can have multiple users logged in, but as far as I know, it still supports changing the location of the temporary internet files and My Documents for each user.

If you don't have multiple users set-up on your computer, you still have the "Default User" -- ie YOU -- and you can relocate your My Documents folder.

Right click My Documents folder. Click Properties. Click Move. Specify a New Location. Hit Okay.

Problem solved.

Thanks all
