Writing 'The End' at the end of a story.

I think most porn doesn't really have an ending as in "They caught the bad guy" or "they lived happily ever after."
Often a porn story could continue with a new chapter, and they start again the next day.

I ended my Snow White story with "They fucked happily ever after. The End."
I thought it worked for that particular story. In fact, I had the final line in mind the whole time I wrote the story.

Yes, you nailed it with new nails and a new hammer! :)

Most stories are snapshots in a fictional universe and don't have a true beginning or true end. In other words, life existed before what saw of it, it went on afterward. Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I love the irony of every time it looks like this thread is going to go away, it gets bumped. The endless thread about people thinking you should never type the end. Awesome.

LOL. Well, there's always someone it's new to. I hadn't seen this one before as far as I can remember and it's an interesting read. And mostly now I use "* * * The End * * *", because I often drop in notes at the end of the story

I'll note that The Lord Of The Rings ends with "The End," and I wouldn't call it amateurish. I think it's probably more accurate to say that it's a convention that is mostly out of fashion in modern fiction. But to the extent it serves a purpose--and in some cases, it does--I don't understand objecting to it.
That. The only reasons I can see for using "The End" are when you're consciously trying for a "period" effect, as invoking an earlier era where a writer would use that phrase, or when you've written a very long series and you're letting the readers know that there isn't going to be any more.

I try to write the story in such a way that the readers know when the ending is. No loose ends to tie up later, everybody seems satisfied with the situation, and so on. Even with that, I get requests from time to time to add another installment, but I don't think that omitting "The End" from a story actually solicits that sort of response.
