Writing Goal for the Day?

Guess I'm still not quite in the zone, nothing done tonight but submitting earlier stories to other sites and dealing with limits on characters and word count. Ack.

Also, we had a homework assignment. PennBoy is "star of the week" for school, and we had to come up with some sort of letter about him and his likes, why he's special, etc. We hit upon the idea of using the letters in his name for things, and that seemed to work out. Took a while though. And then I printed pics for him to take in. *whew*

Character limits? As in, characters can only have certain personality traits? Or there can only be so many characters in a story?

Hahaha. No. When you submit to LushStories, your submission can only be 10k words or 40k characters. They said it's b/c otherwise the server gets bogged down. So I actually had to break down a story that was about 8500 words, but 43k characters, into two smaller pieces.

OK. That makes more sense... I guess.

Hopefully, you get feedback/readership for the effort it takes to post there.

Well I have to say I've never run into that kind of length limit anywhere else. It's not so bad, but it is a little frustrating to break up a story that really isn't that long into something shorter; feels like it kills any momentum.

Feedback has been nice so far, I'm still getting a feel for the place. I'm also just posting, not reading. Same with velvet9.com -- now that is kind of nice b/c it is a smallish site (as the person who recommended it described it) and I've already had a number of "friends" and comments and such. Also -- instant posting.

Well, I think I might try and do NaNoWriMo, which means I should really have drafts of both a story for the holiday contest and a chapter by November 1, else they won't get done until December.

It might be doable. Dissertation topic #4 (5? I can't keep them straight any longer) fell apart recently, and I'm waiting to see if data for #5/6 is available. No biggie--this topic was only three weeks old, as opposed to three years for topic #3-- and it means I have lots of time on my hands as I wait. Yay, silver linings.

In any event, I'm aiming for progress on the holiday story tonight.

Still working on Ch 16. The muse is not cooperating. Wants to jump ahead to Ch 17, or write about another story that's also in my head. This is where the mule comes in, I guess.

Kids' schoolwork has also been getting in the way. Sometimes, I miss my single days.

Still Editing...*sigh*

Worked on some pages of a current story far as editing goes. Didn't get as far but I did get a few pages done. Why is editing so much harder than actually writing and takes longer? *sigh* oh well. :cattail:

Review of my work and editing of someone else's work pretty much used up my day. Rainy, rainy, rainy here.

Still no writing done. Really need to get myself back in gear. Just feeling kind of frazzled, I guess, and it's easier to review and submit stuff to new sites. ;)

Digression -- I was going through my old crochet patterns downstairs and found one I'd made myself when I was 12. Pac-man and the ghosts, little pillows. I may have to make them again just for fun. :)

You artsy- craftsy thing, you! I used to sew, before kids. My daughter has to sew something for a school project, and she wanted to use my machine. I had to break it to her that in the time it would take me to relearn my machine, she could have it finished by hand.

Well, a little bit. Crocheting, cross-stitching - -that's about all I can do. I can't paint or draw and at the moment I'm having an interesting time with my 3yo making this little toy store out of boxes and construction paper. Trust me, 'crafty' is not a word I use to describe myself. ;)

My mom sewed, but never taught me. I wish I knew how. I still have a machine they got me.

So I tried making Pac-man and I must have crocheted looser as a kid or something -- this came out so tiny, and not very flat, so I'm going to rework it. Chomp chomp. :)

Another day of reviewing my work and editing someone else's. 58 degrees in central Virginia (brrrr)

Just hit 10K words on the Christmas tale. Hmmm. For what was meant to be a short story, it sure is getting longer and more involved.

59 here, and I'm loving it!

A pie is baking in the oven, a ragu is simmering away on the cooktop, I just blanched some spinach to make lasagna noodles, the butter is almost melted for my bechamel sauce, and the windows are wide open (and our windows are taller than me). I haven't been able to cook like this in a long time; damn southern summers.

Then again, I grew up sleeping with my windows open in the middle of winter in northern New England, so I'm a bit biased when it comes to weather. ;)

Up this evening: pulling out all the chicken bones from the freezer to make stock. And hopefully finishing the Christmas stuff.

Reminds me. I still have twenty-five more Christmas cards to paint. *sigh*

Broke off from what seems like the endless chore of editing my finale, and listing comics on e-bay and did a couple of thousand words on an idea for an interracial story. I'm flying in the face of convention and it is a white guy with a thing for a black woman. I will save the stereotypical and demeaning version of the hung black stud for the LW crowd and those with little to no imagination.

On another note, part 2 of my finale posted yesterday and I am pretty happy with it. 5 lit pages with no erotica, and three pages of hard core violence. So far has a solid score and some nice comments, and this is in the notorious for stroke material incest crowd. Who says you can't lead them to water?

Now that they have arrived at the water I'll see if I can make them drink the ritual murders in part three due up tomorrow.

Oh, and to you know who? (not you Pilot) go check my reviews on part two. I believe they were better than the ones you garnered on your lame attempt at action. You are losing, my friend. Badly

Me thinks that's the norm, LC, at least among the high-rated authors. soular, theduskygirl, secretfantasy69, pepperpace, killerromance... the stories I've read by these authors--and they are some of the highest-rated authors in that category--feature a darker-skinned woman and a white man.

Yes, you're right. In my experience the vast majority of interracial stories are white man/black woman. Occasionally you see black man/Asian woman, or Asian man/white woman, but it seems white man/black woman is far and away the most common combination.

Hmmm, from the complaints I see of stereotyping Interracial here, I would have thought that most were white woman/black man.

It's quite possible. I'm only going by the ones I've read, which is by no means all of them. It does seem when I pick one, it's white man/black woman. But the distribution could be more even than it appears.

I have a feeling that PL and I tend to read romantic stories with two people, and not the cuckolding stories.

Romantic stories seem to be WM/BW. However, cuckolding stories seem to be BM/WF. Some of these are in the interracial love category… but some, I suspect, are in loving wives. I wonder if when people complain, they are talking more about interracial stories in the LW category, and not interracial stories in IL.

Good point. That crossed my mind but not in time to put it in my post. Going by the taglines, a lot of LW stories have the black man/white woman match up, but the IR love stories are the opposite.

Another 10pages

I edited another 10 pages today and it was daunting and time consuming, yet it still felt good that I accomplished something. Still have a bunch of pages to go yet, least 30 or more. :) :cattail::kiss:

Perhaps tonight or this weekend I can get back to the writing. I guess maybe I needed a hiatus. Watched some hockey (Go Caps -- and what happened, Flyers?) and finally saw the premiere of Boardwalk Empire. Hopefully the hockey games will get me back in a hockey mood. When last I left our heroes... hahaha

good cappuccino
hoping to finish a tale
love part-time daycare

see, that haiku is why my poetry will never see the light if day.

Watched some hockey (Go Caps --

Tomorrow night's bragging rights, PL! Though I gotta say, I don't feel good about it....
