Writing Goal for the Day?

I presume you'll keep changing the plan in order not to have to actually write anything.

Have been instructed by publisher to put my Halloween contest stories (plus and minus a few) out as an e-book anthology--this month. So, I've diverted effort to get that set up.

Whee! Don't tell my advisor, but I'm taking advantage of the silver lining of having a sick kid--extra nap time--to do some lit writing during the day. I should be able to get everything but the sex of a Christmas story done today.

"Sex of a Christmas Story"
Will this feature Peter Billingsly and the "Electric Sex"?

I loved the phrase "sex of a Christmas story." I had to wonder which are male, which are female and which are neuter. ;)

Very funny, you two. Here I am, typing up a message after another night of puking baby, and you chime in with your little comments. ;)

I wasn't thinking the story--with a man and a woman, PL--would feature a red ryder bb gun. But if someone does get, er, shot in the eye by mistake, it might make for an uncomfortable experience, if my exploits to date are any guide.

As for "electric sex"... well, I'll leave one interpretation of that alone, but will say that my MIL loves that movie so much that she has the lamp and a lamp Christmas tree ornament, and we're forced to watch if we're around for Christmas. Sigh. They don't play it on Thanksgiving, do they? Because we'll be there then, and I really don't feel like watching it again.

Aw, sorry about little Tat. :( Hope she feels better soon. Is this a continuation of the previous virus? Or something new? Not that either is fun. And our little comments made you smile for a minute. ;)

Oh my. So no BB Gun... might there be a pole? ;)

I have to confess that this is a movie, along with It's a Wonderful Life that I have never seen all of at one time. They may start playing it around Thanksgiving, I hate to say. Then again, with the way Christmas creeps up, they may play it at Halloween.

Need to get back into the writing swing... did a little today but... hmmm... reading at the moment and watching the Flyers' game. Maybe when that's over.

Will he be too busy with his AIR awards to read it?

I suspect he'll be too afraid I actually wrote a fresh approach to the category to read it. He hasn't even bothered to look at the lengths of my other contest stories without making a silly declaration on their lengths. ;)

The fun thing is that I wrote it in two hours. Wonder how long it takes him to recast his one story under a new "Mommy" title.

A good decision on both, I think. We had three movie traditions: To Kill a Mockingbird at Halloween, The Best Years of Our Lives at Thanksgiving, and both Holiday Inn and White Christmas--in all their cheesy glory--at Christmas.

As for Little Tat... no clue. Spent three hours at the doctor's/pharmacy yesterday, and she goes back tomorrow. Good times.

Wrote Scouries a story. :)

This made me laugh. Thanks. :)

We never had a Christmas movie tradition, although I've found there are two I like to watch: The Shop around the Corner (with Jimmy Stewart) and A Christmas Carol, the 1951 version with Alastair Sim. TSATC always amuses me b/c it's set in Budapest and trust me, Jimmy Stewart does not in the least sound Hungarian. Nor does he try, which is probably for the best.

Aw, sorry about Little Tat. Penn Fille is going for her first dental appt on Friday, should be fun.

I didn't do any writing or editing today like I planned. I was lazy, playing a a mmorpg, typing 1,1,3,2,1, etc. Tomorrow no interwebz to distract me so I can do some editing while at work.

Let's see... I've been revising Make a Wish for e-publishing. Gives me a little break from the hockey story, which I think is probably coming close to ending. I'm on Ch 8, and I really don't see it going past 9. It may surprise me, but I just don't see it at the moment.

Then I'm toying with a Christmas idea or two and still have my other reindeer story waiting. That just kind of came to a halt for a bit.

Probably won't get much done this weekend with my parents coming to visit, but I'll try to use the off time to just recharge on writing.

Well looks like writing may be taking a back seat for the next week or two.

Just scored the mother load at a moving sale last night. Couple had five big boxes of comics in their basement that belonged to her father.

They are beat up and the people had no clue what they were worth but giving me the "well there old and they must be worth something."

Long story short got them for $400. some were eaten by god knows what and had to be trashed but there are close to three hundred dc superhero titles from the forties and fifties and best of all a ton of EC comics from the fifties (The ones that were banned when Wertham's seduction of the innocent caused the publishers to create a comics code.)

Even with the condition being less than ideal and e-bays watered down prices, my conservative estimate is I could easily make 12-15k over the next three weeks.

I've been flipping collections for over 20 years and have never scored like this! Even keeping a few EC's for myself.

So for the next ten days or so, after work it's me, my scanner, turbo lister and a lot of coffee.

BTW the wife is thrilled, our 10th anniversary is in March and we are booking one hell of a cruise.

Congrats, LC. That's awesome! My mom and I used to get up ass-early in the summer and hit the yard sales. We had some awesome hauls, including one where the daughter of a deceased couple sold me a set of plates for $30, and told me to go in the house and find some newspapers to pack them in. She said that if we found any more of the set, they were ours. Turns out the dishwasher was full (and clean, lol). I got a service for twelve for $30, including a bunch of serving pieces. We actually felt bad and offered more money (nowhere near what they were worth, mind), and she refused. Score! They are now my "fancy but I won't cry if one breaks" set of dishes (not to be confused with the other four sets Mr. Tat and I own... my poor husband).

We got other good stuff over the years, and now I kick myself for not packing more of that stuff away, because my mother has conveniently forgotten what I paid for. I swear, one of these days I'm going to kidnap the art deco cocktail shakers and pottery I bought that she has displayed in the living room. All she says is that since I'm an only child, I'll get it one day anyway. A small price to pay for 18+ years of room and board and years of tuition, I suppose.

Congratulations LC, that's really cool!

Tat, I'm sending hugs and margaritas your way. :rose:

We're camping this weekend. *Awesome* And doing a little research for an upcoming chapter. ;)

Hope everybody has a great fall weekend.

Research. Right. Why do I have a feeling we'll soon be seeing PL's Lost in the Woods: SydneyBlake edition? ;)

Have fun.

(Oh, and thanks for the hugs.)

Coming down off the mountain today--but I should have time to finish up my last Halloween contest entry--and start working with the publisher for a cover for the resulting anthology.

My Halloween story kind of put me off stride on my new hockey story, so I need to get back to that. Also working on my previous hockey story for publication, after some suggestions from the beta reader about chapter breaks, etc. Funny how a short break like that puts you off more than you'd think.

More work on my Christmas/car story. I haven't been able to do anything on it in days, so I'm pretty happy. :)

Just in time for the last warm day of fall tomorrow!

Yay, hockey story! Any more bread creatures from those crochet needles of yours?

Editing stories

I plan on editing two of my completed stories, as much as I hate doing it. I need to and hopefully by having a goal, will help me get motivated. :cattail:

I have an idea for a Christmas story but I'm not sure it'll happen. It's from a song (no surprise there, right?) and either it won't work, or I need to be a little looser in my ideas. Sometimes when I work with songs, I'm a bit too linear and literal.

No bread critters, but I finally made PennGirl's orange totoro and I made her a ladybug cinch purse yesterday. While we were at the store, she found this variegated yarn and now she wants a totoro made out of that. I think I need to make PennBoy something first.

Coming down from the mountain today. Time to start getting the Halloween anthology packaged and to start on a pen name mystery--and to consult with an author on the edits I sent him last week.
