Writing for the approbation of other authors
Your views seem typical for N&N. They come in in dribs ad drabs and never amount to much. That comes with the territory. My novel from two months ago, which has good ratings. still has 1-3k views/segment.I have a worked example of this.
My first novel, The Story of Nix, is limping along when it comes to views. My unrequited lover is simping so hard by offering me one star roses, that it’s actually romantic. So I should be down at heart, right?
In fact I’m elated. So many authors have provided positive feedback in comments, or PMs, or on BlueSky than it’s wildly exceeded my expectations. And this includes quite a few who are new to my work. So color me elitist, I’m happy that writers like what I have written, even if only a dozen or so other readers have looked at the work.
I guess that answers my own question.
I’ve done better previously in the category - like over 3,000 views.Your views seem typical for N&N
If only that were true...Musicians do not denigrate musicians of another genre, why should we.
Approbation ... is that like regular probation or more like parole? Is it in English you write?I saw a comment elsewhere that some writers (me included) put greater weight on feedback from other authors than general readers. Contrawise some other writers say they care more about what their readers think than other writers.
I wondered about your motivations. For me, I’m much happier if a writer I respect pays me a compliment, than if it is a non-writer, or a writer whose work I am unfamiliar with does the same.
Does that mean I’m writing for other writers? How about you?
Is that why you don’t use them?Two-dollar words are fine if you have at least a one-dollar thought
Many? That sounds exciting@EmilyMiller I suspect many are waiting until the whole thing is published.
It’s all the fault of @PennyThompson’s attention span reallyIncidentally, why did you go for the chapter split?
I'm working on it, I'm about halfway through part 1It’s all the fault of @PennyThompson’s attention span really.
I should have split it into twelveI'm working on it, I'm about halfway through part 1![]()
