World's largest democracy on verge of seismic shift in attitudes towards women?

Never let a news event go to waste. News events can always be used to promote unrelated political agendas.

Oh, you want to add in Bangladeshis, Pakistanis and Sri Lankans? K, that puts us over a million. :p

And NY has a place called Kew Gardens? Can you fuckers never come up with names of your own?

Right?

Btw, where is your Chicago located? Washington D.C.? Seattle? Tallahassee?

Womens' rights are part of humanity's agenda.

One has to be human to realize that, however, so you're forgiven.

This thread has the air of someone desperate to impress the none males. "Oh girls.. but of course i will respect your human rights.... "

How is your agenda to impress sheep and the occasional watermelon going?

I watched the Man U W Brom match. Second half was pretty good.

Honestly, I didn't quite understand that point. Indian rights activists in Canada being killed for advocating Indian rights?

I have not heard anything about it actually. Besides what does the designation "Indian" actually mean? With a populatuon over a billion and a tangle of languages, religions and cultures you could be dealing with anything.

The average person can't tell an Indian from a Pakistani. Not surprising since the only difference is religion. But the knuckle draggers over here refer to all people that look like they're from the subcontinent as "pakis". Most of the Indians I know are more offended by that than the actual racism.

White people, in general, aren't very smart.

:)

Calling Chinese people Asian is also frowned upon.

Ironic since technically they are Indo-European just as Europe, The British Isles, much of the US etc. I think the "racist" element is some what engrained in the culture though. I am thinking here the treatment of aboriginals in North America, slavery, the salt laws, the White Australia policy etc. I note that this sort of discrimination is generally not directed at white (esp English speaking) people.

From personal experience I have no clue on this really as the number of "pakis" where I live is pretty well zero. Canada, until quite recently, showed a preference for white, European immigrants and even now the Prime Minister is talking about manditory functional grasp of either English or French in order to qualify. The beat goes on.

I havn't got a clue what you are on about comrade, however, to put sean point in context, if you consider the Welsh as white pakis, you should have a grasp of it.

I don't think Pakistanis (as a whole) are indo-european. You're perhaps thinking of the red-headed and green-eyed punjabis?

To frame the argument, Rosco's thoughts on a 'tipping point' that must be reached in order to effect societal [sic] change. In this quote, Rosco refers to the recent Newtown mass-murders.

I wonder if Indians are getting close.

Probably not. India is a great society, one where women are groped in public daily.

Far fewer women die in India per capita from such "attacks" than in the USA.

Rapes per 100,000 women in 2010:

USA 27.3
India 1.8

From Wikipedia:

The term Caucasian race (also Caucasoid)[1] has been used to denote the general physical type of some or all of the populations of Europe, North Africa, the Horn of Africa, Western Asia (the Middle East), parts of Central Asia and most parts of South Asia.[2] Historically, the term has been used to describe many peoples from these regions, without regard necessarily to skin tone.[3]

I think there are 3 basic racial divisions: Caucasian (as above), Negroid (sub Saharan Africa) and Mongoloid (parts of central Asia, east Asia,)

USA 27.3
India 1.8

That is a pretty wide divergence. I think there has to be a reporting/recording flaw on the India side.

That is sweet! When you see statistics you don't like, suspect them! What about the possibility of "a reporting/recording flaw" on the US side? Perhaps you think that all those school massacres are also "reporting/recording flaws"?

Seriously ...

Huh?!? Dunno what you're on about.

Big stigma about reporting rape in India. Even if a woman overcomes the social stigma and makes it to the police her reception is invariably frosty. "Why were you there?" "You were asking for it dressed like that." Not to mention the extremely low incidence of perps prosecuted for rape. And even lower number found responsible. So what is in it for the woman if the law is only a paper tiger? Hence the high probability of skewed statistics regarding incidence of rape in India.

This is what I am on about:

http://messymatters.com/rape/

For rape incidence in India to be equal to that in the US, only 2% of rape cases in India would have to be reported. It seems highly unlikely that, even in India, 98% of rape cases go unreported. I'd buy 50%-70%, not more.
