Many of the players in this tournament seem to be graduates of the Ham School of Acting. I don't mean just the teams in the final, but almost all the teams in the contest seem to have practised diving more than taking penalties.

FIFA is going to have to do something about the acting.

Well, it's one way to get North Americans involved if there is an Academy Award to be had and melodrama seems a good description on the soccar field.

By diving do you mean all those guys on the field holding their shin (that no one kicked) until the medics come along and then they get up like they were never hurt in the first place?

"Diving" is falling to the ground when near a player of the opposing team so that the referee gives a free kick or penalty (or best of all a second yellow card to a player that already has one, thus depriving your opponents of one team member).

If in an impossible position for a shot at goal, moving close to the opposing player and then diving could mean that the free kick is given and a goal results.

I'm going to be cheering on france as I do have some French Ancestrial blood in me somewhere. I think they've got more than a good chance of winning, but I pity the ref for this final.

how much diving you think will happen? Last night and the night before showed way more diving than I like to see...I think the final may well just come down to an acting competition -how sad's that?

What? You have to be joking.

If you saw the other thread I started about the game, you'll know I'm perfectly comfortable with losing. That "fucker" was specifically directed to Straight-8. It's fine to be accused of cheating and diving when we win fair and square, it's even fun and part of the game itself, but to accuse us of dirty moves when we lose a game like yesterday's, it takes a special kind of prick.
