I was hoping Tampa would win and they did.
What bothers me about the whole thing is WORLD CHAMPIONS!
We used to think we were the best in the world with hockey but 1972 opened our eyes.
The baseball is the world series and the N.F.L. is the world champions.
It gets disgusting.

Well everyone knows that the world doesn't extend outside of the U.S. borders. At least as far as sports go.

he he he... you rock... :D

What's the problem? All of those leagues represent the sport at their highest level.

To what? We won the Summit Series. All it opened my eyes to is that the Russians are sneaky, cheating bastards.

That's because the rest of the world doesn't play this brand of football.

No shit we won. (Einstein), I was hung over for a few days after that one but it opened our eyes to the fact that we were not automatically the best in the world if you won the Stanley Cup.

But we were the best in the world. The russians, through cheating whenever they got the chance, made it close but we were the best in the world and now that Russians are in the NHL it only legitmizes the Stanley Cup champion/world champion label.

Nope sorry
As much as I am a person that thinks our country kicks ass at hockey the Stanley Cup champions are not world champions unless they have the other countries in the tournament.
edited to add. yes we were the best in the world and still are.

That's ridiculous. Why should the Maple Leafs(With players about 8 or 9 countries) have to compete for the World Championship with Dynamo Moscow all of whose players aren't good enough to make the Nashville Predators?

A World Championship should be a question of skill level, not what city name is on the jersey.

You're thinking of the Olympics.

God am I talking to a wall here?
That is why we do not say world champions when we are stanley cup champions.
You people in Toronto might do that but we did not do that in Edmonton.

Well, lets see. The Worls Series was first held more than 100 years ago when no other country had organized baseball. Oh, and its the US invention and pasttime.

The NFL represents American football which is virtually unique to within our borders.

You need to relax.

I'd still like to see NFL vs CFL champion .. maybe even in a hybred game where it may be three down ball, but played on an NFL field...

Montreal vs Tampa Bay ... I would think T-Bay would roll the Alouettes big time.. but in other years I'd think a CFL v NFL game would be a close affair.

That NFL field is what drives me crazy most times.. It just seems too damn small to play a real football game on.

Nah, resurrect the XFL rulebook so both teams are similarly handicapped by unfamiliar rules.

LOL good idea!

Actually, I liked a lot of the XFL's rules -- especially the overtime format where both teams get a chance for four untimed downs from the 30(?) Yd line and the second team is not permitted to play for a tie unless the first team scored 8 points.

The XFL had alot of cool ideas.. The one foot only inbounds is a great idea I think.

I wasn't really fond of that one -- actually I'm not fond of it inthe NCAA game either, but those are "just kids playing on the school ground" not professionals. Professionals should be good enough to drag their feet like Porter did on Oakland's first TD.

What color is the sky in the world where the U.S. was ever as good as Russia and Canada in Hockey?

Red, White, and Blue, of course. :p

Ahhhh ... that explains why the Stanley cup Champion Detroit Redwings had but one American Player (during their latest championship run) ... Chris Chelios.

Don't worry, the rest of the world just giggles when we hear that about those irrelevant regional sports.

It must be frustrating to play a sport that no-one else in the world plays

Ok team USA would beat any other nation at American Football -if they played it.

At least we had the decency to teach other countries how to play the sports we invented

Footie, Cricket , Rugby, Golf, Tennis etc

we at least now get slaughtered on a regular basis by these upstart nations who we passed on the rules

Bloody cheek - teach them a sport and they go and beat us at it

Tip to US - dont teach anyone else your sports - at least you will always be the best
