I have been "laid off" from work the last few weeks as they didn't need casuals for awhile. So I applied to a transcription company online that allows you to work from home...I spent the last few days doing the testing...I just got a phone call from them after I had submitted my tests just last night at 9pm my time.

I PASSED!!!!

Dunno...I think this company is based out of Tennessee and the contract officer has to line up some jobs for me. As a part-time worker, I have to work a minimum of 20 hours/week...but I can work more if I want. The extra will come in handy. :)

That's great news!
It's wonderful to be able to work from home.

Where the foreign doctors harder to understand??

Yes...they always are...but you get those no matter where you work. Sometimes, all it takes is changing the volume or taking off the headset and the words get clearer.

How does it work? Do they mail you the tapes and then you mail back a disc? Or is it all on-line and telephone? Sounds interesting, I know someone who does medical transcription and might be interested in something like this.

From what I understand...if you are working part time, then you use your own equipment but yes, you need to have online access in a clear uncorrupted way. They prefer highspeed I think. If you choose to work fulltime for them, then they provide you with all the computer/dictation hardware/software...

They pay/line and minimum part time required is 20 hours/week but you can work more if you want. They have jobs available 7 days a week and you can complete them from home at any point of the day. They do have offices in some cities so you might have to go out to work. But the choice is yours in the end.

The company is called MedQuist. They are probably the biggest company in North America for this type of work.
