just curious.... what happens to sexual activity in your relationship when your girlfriend gets her period???

Do you just masturbate to help get you through the week or so?
Does she give you head? Anal?
Or do you have sex regardless of her having her period?

Which leads me to another question... are there any health risks involved when intercourse is engaged while a women has her period? why is it the "done thing" that sex stps when a period comes??

both male and female responses very welcome

.....just curious.

When my GF has her period, we actually seem to have sex MORE... :D

She's even more horny than usual... And neither one of us really minds the added "mess".

As far as I know, there aren't any added health risks to having sex while a woman is menstruating... But, I think that some the women that refuse to have sex during their period may be a bit self conscious - about the "mess", about any possible "odor", etc.... Also, some women just don't feel "sexy" when they're menstruating... But, I could be wrong... *shrugs*

the whole period thing isn't really a factor, our sex tends to be shower oriented during that time, i've been more than happy to provide her with oral sex during that time, (just a different taste) when i'm not in the mood, but over all i'd say that's it usually leads to more sex. she's a firm believer that orgasms help with all the side effects of having a period

I soo agree with that, except I wouldnt want my hubby to "eat me out" when I am ragging. I think thats a lil too much for me.

well now that i am not in a relationship it is rare that i have sex when i have my period, because i don't have sex that often anyway... when i was in a relationship it varied - my ex had phases when he didn't mind at all, and he had phases when he suddenly thought having sex while i have my period is gross (which pissed me off quite a bit because sex really helps against cramps etc.)

anyway, i think part of the reason why some people won't have sex during the period is due to religion - even when someone is not religious they might still be influenced of religious thinking, as it is part of our culture - because in the bible and similar it is said a woman would be unclean then... and another reason is that in general a lot of people seem to find things gross quite easily, i guess in part due to not knowing too much about them (like a boy that is only told about female anatomy and about things like the period as something one is not supposed to talk about might be more likely to not be relaxed about things like that)... but fortunately these things seem to be changing, i hope...

Actually, there is a higher risk for transmitting STDs during a womans period. But when you are long-term partners that should not be a problem.

And..it is just some tissue matter and blood, guys, get over it, we woman have to learn to deal with it when we are in our early teens, so dont act as if it is something horrible. (and if she acts like it, teach her that it is nothing special)

As for me...I have dark towels :) and yes, I am also way more horny during my period than the rest of the month.

I usually don't have sex at that time of the month...or even touch myself. Most of the time I'm verrrrrry horny after those five or six days but I manage....somehow. Last night tho, was the first time I've ever had sex during this time! It was his fault! I was already horny enough he pushed me to the edge... and he said he didn't care about the mess...it was totally weird! Wild! Gad...he even went down on me (sounds like a vampire) guys don't like doing that do they? It was totally wow...But I dunno if I would do it again...

I usually don't have intercourse during that time but for some reason I get hornier than ever so I'm all for extra BJs. :p Towards the last few days or so I can be talked into sex since it's not as messy but still... it's definately a mental issue for me.

Why the last time I was with my SO I was having a bit of a bleeding problem (posted about it in fact) I freaked out so much.

Jus' me....

I am usually very horny the last half of my period; my hubby's and my reactions seem to vary, now that I think about it.

I love to give him head any time, so menstruation is as good a time as any, then I finish myself off---I'm fortunate enough that I can cum without having to take off my jeans.
Sometimes we pull out the black towels.
Sometimes we leap in the shower.
Sometimes he doesn't want to play, and I just masturbate.

I know of no big health problems with menstrual sex, not that I've read or experienced. But I do have an interesting tidbit for women, like me, who have irregular periods.
It is already documented in many pregnancy books that male semen has a hormone in it called prostaglandin. This is also a female hormone that, among other things, is responsible for getting contractions started in labor. I've read many mid-wives tales of a husband "helping out" when his wife's labor (for some reason) grinds to a halt: i.e. he deposits a load near the cervix and it helps to get labor going again. A hormonal jump-start, if you will.
Why am I bringing this up? Because it can also help start the first contractions that begin the sloughing of menstrual tissue and starts the cycle over again. Sometimes, I've gone through my PMS, my bloating, my acne, and I know I should be starting any day now....any day....but I feel like I've "ground to a halt". If I can get my hubby to screw me soundly (and he usually does) and I get that healthy deposit of hormone, I almost always start within 24 hours. For me, whose cycles varies from 30-42 days, it can help me out a lot! My periods still aren't predictable (and how I envy women who are regular!), but it lends me a small amount of control at least.

It's not the "done thing" for me. I tend to get more aroused during that time and the intensity of sex does help take my mind off cramps and bloating. :)

My husband and I don't let my period stop us at all! My cycle is, on average, 25 days long. I'd hate to think that for five or six of those days that I'd be, er, out of commission!

Towels are good. :)

Her period's never stopped me one bit.

The only thing I've really encountered is how she feels. If she doesn't feel sexy at that point I back off and take the situation into my own hands.. literally.

Conversely, if she doesn't feel sexy regardless if it's her period, a bad day at work, a headache- it's a sign for me to back off.

Mutual respect goes a long way.

damn!! that makes soooo much sense now! i've been on the pill for 5 years now trying to make myself regular and i've noticed (thanks to this thread) that i start my period a few days early if i have sex a few days before i'm suppose to start!

THANK you for helping me figure this out. it was pissing me off so much! lol

My boyfriend doesn't mind as much as I do. It usually depends on how heavy my flow is. If it's light, I'll masturbate as usual, but my last one was exceptionally heavy and I didn't want to deal with cleaning it up in my dorm (it's more obvious when you share a bathroom with 20+ people.

I've discovered for me, it actually hurts to have sex while I'm on my period. So generally we don't have sex, and if he was in the mood for head and I didn't feel sick to my stomach, bloated, or just plain ugly, we go for it.

If it was up to him, we'd have sex 24/7 and on leap year - not much fazes him in the slightest :)

Neither my S/O nor I care for sex during my period. For me, I feel totally unsexy and really do not like the mess. For him, he simply states he's tried it before and it grossed him out. I can understand that. Women are used to the whole bleeding thing. Men usually aren't.

I've just gone through a horrible time attempting to adjust to new birth control pills (Seasonale), and have been spotting/bleeding for 5 weeks. Yeah, 5 weeks! And that includes getting the hormonal migraines. In all that time, we've only had sex once. And the wonderful thing about it? He hasn't copped an attitude - he knows this is just as frustrating for me and we are both more concerned about my health.

But (WooHoo!) I'm going back on Yasmin and the bleeding has stopped, so this weekend it is "everything goes"!

Each woman is individual in her thinking and how she feels. I don't feel sexy during my periods and others do. However, right after my period ends? Different story altogether! The key is being sensitive to each other, talking about it, and not letting frustrations get in the way of keeping a good relationship going.

I have had it while on my period with my ex husband, but I didn't enjoy it. For me personally I find it embarassing, I dont like the extra mess, I dont like the odor...I have a very sensitive nose and often times smell things others dont so for me, it is a definate heavy coppery smell of blood that turns me off. My ex used to say...who cares, we'll use a towel.....but like some of the others here have said....I feel unsexy, it is a mental issue with me as far as thinking its gross and god if someone ever went down on me while I was on my period I think I would gag right there. It's just not for me....but more power to those who enjoy it. (and yes, I too am very horny during this time....and when with a man, go down on him over and over and over again...LOL)

I get really heavy periods and won't let my boyfriend go anywhere near that area around that time!

I have been with several girlfriends over the years who have had their monthly visitor and I have to relate to their feelings of unclear and unsexy. At least that was their feelings to me it wast part of life and that doesn't make you unsexy. The few times we have made love there is a mess which is a nice way to put it, but it always seemed to make them happy. Happy that someone wanted to make love with them in a time when they felt bad or unsexy. Hey it is different with everyone so who knows what works for different couples. It was always close and loving for me those times and I think it says how open and close we were now that I look back at it.

Real intimacy is other things in a relationship. Like when you first see her shave her legs......

Just my thoughts.

The ex-fiance didn't care. He was just happy if he got laid (which was rare, because I disliked him and he didn't shower).

The ex-boyfriend cared, until he got used to it. As long as it was light, he didn't mind. He's a clean freak and total germaphobe. I was shocked when I was laying on the couch, dying from cramps and migraines from my period, and he came over, put his hands under the blankets, pulled my pants down a bit, and began to finger me to orgasm. It helped my cramps and headache quite well! then he went and washed his hands, and snuggled with me. Now he just snuggled me or rubs my back or head (since we're no longer together, and are good friends still).

The current boyfriend is grossed out by the idea. Little does he know, he's had sex with me on my period. I have hormonal issues, and can have my period for months at a time. If it's kind of light, I pop in an Instead (a little cuppy thing) and off we go! He never knows...LOL. And I get mine, so a bit of deceit is okay. ;)

My wife and I fuck like crazy during her period and when shes not having her period. :nana: :p :nana:

its called hummer week here well used to be hummer week now i call it ps2 week instead :(

the women i've been w/ have generally been too icked out to be in the mood although there've been fun and very hot exceptions. :>
