Aside from financial barriers, another common obstacles
Texans face in accessing abortion is being tricked, coerced
and lied to by anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers.
#SB2243 is a dangerous bill that would block Texans
from their constitutional right to an abortion.

Texas Senate Passes Forced Abortion Counseling Bill SB 2234: A "dangerous expansion of state power"
Abortion-seeking women, apparently unable to make the
best choice for their body unsupervised, would be forced
to sit through mandatory “counseling” under legislation
passed by the Texas Senate today.
SB 2243 by Sen. Angela Paxton, R-McKinney (yes, indicted anti-choice Attorney General Ken Paxton’s wife),
would force Texans needing an abortion into third party
“counseling” sessions through the Alternatives to Abortion
program, which includes several crisis pregnancy centers,
often Christian-based facilities whose main goal is to
dissuade women from choosing abortion.
Reproductive rights groups say the bill is a violation of privacy because it forces women to reveal their medical decisions to “unlicensed strangers” who are not their healthcare providers, effectively giving them “veto power over a person’s decision to have an abortion,” against long standing constitutional principles.
“SB 2243 would force Texans seeking abortion care into biased, coercive, unregulated non-medical services with the ultimate goal of shaming a woman out of her decision to have an abortion from anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers,” said NARAL Pro-Choice Texas Deputy Director Emily Martin.
Passed by the Senate in a 20-10 vote, SB 2234 now heads to the House.
