I am a new member in Literotica and after posting my thread on the personals..i find a rather interesting statistic..

400 views, 14 replies including mine which equates to 3.5% replies..

I was wondering if it is a true reflection of the skewed women vs men ratio in Lit?

Your thoughts?

FWIW, I think it's hard to narrow down the stats much. And some threads get a lot of comments because of luck, time of day, the text of the post. Besides this, some men post as women, and the other way around.

I'm sure others can provide more info on the issue.

Well i seem to get that..there is generally a lot of people around at some point of time in the day..and it does affect the views and therefore chance to interact with others..

And yeah it seems there is quite a debate going on about men posting as women..

Your advice is taken :)

I've posted as a woman for almost nine years now. ;)

Nine years. That's kinda pathetic.

Thats a long time mate and i do feel it is great at least you acknowledge the fact this exists in Lit and at the same time you got guts to come out with the truth..

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but why? I mean, is it that you would rather be a woman?

What I've found-
Lit seems to be mostly 40s and above, married people looking to have fun apart from their significant other. The margin of guys wanting to talk dirty and have fun to girls wanting to talk dirty and have fun is around 96% to 4%. At least when it comes to threads on the personals.

Well quite interesting in your analysis..but yeah you are correct there is bunch of older men who are here trying to find that fun which they do not derive from their existing real life relation..

tryingtowinhearts: there's a lot of gender-bending going on here, i've always suspected, but i think the ratios skew significantly depending upon what specific part of the lit forums you view. i would imagine that the ratio of male: female litsters who frequent personals is probably heavily male. however, in other forums, such as here in how to, the ratio skews more to female, it always seems to me.

screwing things up even worse are the alts (additional accounts maintained by the same person).

to wit: one thread in the personals forum isn't the best gauge of the overall lit male/female ratio.

Very true, and in general, there's no way to know if anything people post online about themselves is true. So myself, I don't worry about it, and just take everybody at their word. Life's too short to be overly concerned if so-and-so is really female or male or whatever.

I don't think a high view to reply ratio is necessarily a reflection of the ratio of men to women on this site. I think it's more a reflection that people tend to view more than they post. Look at any thread, personals or no, and you'll tend to see much higher view counts than reply counts. The lurkers are out there lurking in their Fortresses of Lurkitude. But we know you're there, lurkers. We can see you (kinda). We can see you viewing without replying.

Jesus fuck, Eilan. I'm sending you the cleaning bill for all the water-spray. :D

You are correct..i am a new member so my opinions or knowledge is limited compared to other experienced members. My comment was an observation in the past week or so - a skewed ratio when it comes to threads in personals or females posting on male threads added with the lurkers..

There are a lot of men on here, both openly male and pretending to be female. The liars are pretty easy to spot though! Haha.
The good thing is though there are some really genuinely lovely women on here too, you've just got to find them.

How could you possibly know if it was a true reflection of the women vs men ratio on Lit without knowing the sex of the viewers and posters? Or the number of people who didn't view your thread at all?

You are very correct in your approach and it is right i do not know what is the ratio of gender in views..but i also think with the prominence of male population generally a woman either writes a PM or would post in the thread if they find anything suitable to their taste..

Coming to the ratio..i am a new member but was looking if i had my views right..

I've met a few women from here, none were from the personals section.

Just keep posting who you are and what you are about and at the least you'll find someone engaging to chat with.

And not everyone posts publicly a lot. It's been almost a year for me and still not enough posts to get an avatar.

I hear that Willow - and most of my posts are from one long string of that M vs F numbers game :D

I also poke around the site a bit with my phone, while I rarely post from it - assuming I'm not alone in that, that'd be another contributor to skewing the view-reply ratios.

I'm not a lurker, I swear! ;)

So wait, you're assuming that of 400 views, only the 14 who replied were women? That the 386 or whatever who didn't post were men, but every single woman who saw your thread replied?

Damn, I'd date more women if I had that kind of appeal!

Honestly, you'll see a similar skew on any thread, regardless of whether the original poster was male, female, or something else. There are ALWAYS more lurkers than posters.

I don't really see how this could help draw any sort of conclusions at all about the male/female ratio on Lit.

That sounds roughly in line with my own impressions, based on how commenters on my stories identify themselves (when they identify their gender at all) ... about 1 in 20 are women. As to how many of those "women" are actually women, I have no way of guessing, but I don't think there's much incentive for commenters to describe themselves as being of a gender not actually their own.

does it really matter? The important thing is you find what you are after.

I feel that there are more men on the forums, because women come mainly for the story aspect of the website.
