Ok..as most everyone knows, I've been sick since December 6th. The worst part is, I got my period December 7, in the middle of my cycle...and it hasn't stopped. Should I maybe contact a doctor? I'm starting to get REALLY irritated. My periods do not last over 3 days, and are so light that I probably don't even need a tampon through the entire thing. This one, not only started early, it's not letting up, and the bleeding is heavier than normal. I don't know if I should wait it out, or if this is cause for alarm.

Any suggestions?

you should check with the doctor... a sudden change in your cycle should always be checked out.

Get your ass in there. It's probably nothing, but isn't it better to know? Come on Sammy baby, you aren't the type to let us get away with that, so now it's our turn to fuss at you.

Damn, I didn't want to go...was hoping someone would say "Early menopause, no biggie"...or something equally as wonderful...might explain my lack of interest in anything lately? *hoping*...LOL

SammyJo, you need to go to the doctor as soon as you can. If this is not your normal period, a doctor needs to know. It could partly be the reason why you are still so tired all the time. Make an appointment & let us know what you find out. It is better to be safe than sorry. Take care of yourself, hugs.

Call the doc first thing Monday and explain the symptoms, then he'll probably make room for you. Excessive bleeding is always a cause for concern. I'm going to worry about you now so you let us know.

Okay, I'll tell you it could be what they call peri-menopause. These are the years before you actually hit menopause. Sort of like puberty, in reverse. At least that's the way I think about it. Very very common first symptom is a change in your period, especially getting heavier and more frequent. Daughters usually follow the same path as their mothers and grandmothers on the road to menopause. If they reached it early in life, you likely will, too.

I'm not looking forward to reaching this stage in my life, but at least I'll have some idea of what is happening and how to deal with it! My mom didn't get to menopause until her late 50's, so I figure I have many years to go until I get there, too.

Even with all that said, still call your doctor for peace of mind. I know you've had other female health problems, too, so you should never ignore symptoms that could be related. Let the doctor decide whether this change in your cycle is important or not. And let us know how you're doing after you call him/her.

Sammy, please call your doctor, this is not normal hon. I too had problems, found out it was a fibroid tumor in my uterus which was causing the problem. They have medications they can use to shrink these now. Continued bleeding will not only make you tired, but will also make you anemic (sp). If you are experiencing alot of pain, you may want to have your doctor check for endometriosis. Good luck to you!

Sammy I would call the doctor. What are you doing for birth control. When I was on hormanal methods for birth control mine lasted 3 days but now that I have an IUD and only my natural hormones they last 8 to 10 days.

Could just be that being sick rid your body of extra hormones and this would be your natural cycle but get it checked out.

Answers...answers...let's see...I use the pill, which is why my period is normally so light, and so short. And why I think this one is odd.

No pain with my period at all...normally I may have an hour or so of light cramps...none at all this time...didn't need to take the midol, that's how I know...or did the Nyquil block my senses to it? could be, I suppose.

I did wonder about the excessive tiredness...chalked it up to the cough/cold/viral infection thingy...probably didn't help matters any.

I'll call Monday morning and hopefully speak to my own doctor...she's very nice and very helpful...helped me diagnose my problem with the Instead cups...among other things.

I'm sure my added stress (this one little thing nagging me that I haven't discussed on the board or anywhere else, I guess) isn't making things any better...*sigh*...

Thanks for your help :) and for worrying...though, I really don't WANT you to worry...it's nice to know you care. :)

Dont mean to freak ya out here but that happened to me once and apparently i was having a miscarriage!

It's probably nothing serious, but I would go get it checked out ASAP just to be on the safe side, which is what pretty much everyone else said.

That's happened to me twice in my life. Once shortly after I started having periods, I bled for over a month, and another time a year or so ago. I was doing a lot of traveling and putting in a lot of late nights. I had a normal period, then 2 weeks later I had another one. My gyno said I probably just stressed my body into not ovulating that month, and a course of hormones took care of that.

There are a lot of substances which are hormone antagonists.
It could be that one of the medications has something which is cutting your progesterone level - it might even not be an active ingredient. I heard that one of the sugar free coatings used on pills has that effect.
See your Doctor, and make sure you tell him or her all the stuff you are taking.

Ummm...totally impossible...I haven't been with anyone since June...and I've had normal periods (aside from my miscarriage in July) since.

Well, at any rate, it stopped...I guess all I had to do was whine about it enough and it went away...heehee...I'll still call on Monday and see if I can get some tests done next week...just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for all your help :)

Glad to heart it stopped, and even gladder to know you will still call the Dr.

What Merelan said. I would also ask the doctor to run a blood test. My little sister was feeling kind of tired, but thought it was just work & stress. She went to give blood last week, just as she does every few months & they told her she was anemic. She went to her doctor, is taking iron & is already feeling a bit better.
