Weekend Watchlist + A Little Tease for You…

Let’s start with the disappointing part of my weekend before I inevitably turn this whole thing horny…. Last night I went to see Ballerina, directed by Len Wiseman and set within the John Wick universe. It had every opportunity to shine.
Ana de Armas takes the lead as Eve, a trained ballerina-turned-assassin seeking revenge for her father’s murder. But, despite her range and on-screen magnetism (Blonde, Knives Out, No Time to Die, she’s brilliant in all of them), is given next to no lines. Keanu Reeves reprising his role as Wick, was the reason I wanted to see it, but it seemed he only had a little 30 min feature. It really does deserve the 77% rotten tomatoes reviews. ( I’m such a movie “rating” whore that I review EVERY new movie. ) so to cleanse our palettes we decided to stay late at the cinema and watch Dangerous Animals (new shark horror), that honestly had no business being as good as it was. (The Shallows, disappointed me, also better then 47 meters down). What starts off as a sun-drenched boat trip ( yes, typical) quickly spirals into claustrophobic, nerve-wracking terror.

The acting is surprisingly tight. The lead, played by Odessa A’zion, brings just enough grit to keep you invested without tipping into melodrama. The pacing is taut, and the water scenes are genuinely stressful , though I’ll admit, I have a very irrational fear of sharks. (So yes, I was jumping and turning my face from the screen . More than once. You’re welcome for that mental image.)

Since I didn’t post your surprise last night, I figured you boys could use a little something to get your blood moving today. oh, what was that? You’re not interested?… ahhh well okay then…. So I guess you won’t want to know where I’m headed tonight?… just a hotel with my girl… takeaway, wines, music on, and far too much weed, lounging around in oversized t shirts and thongs….

You’re totally right. Of course, I’m not talking about ALL men when I say this, but there are a large handful who were never taught to value emotional labour, or taught to even recognise it. I think I’m right in saying that McLaren is leading right now, Piastri and Norris (cute) are killing it, Verstappen’s behind for once, and Ferrari with Hamilton’s been a bit up and down. Is that about correct?

I did also go to Silverstone to watch the F1 Grand Prix with a friend who works for McLaren (she gets cheaper tickets to all sorts of car events, I’ve also been to Goodwood festival of speed a few times now) and we sat in the Becketts stand. It was okay… I just don’t get the hype

Yes, you've got it all right! I think we could keep a conversation going even about F1, but not only.

Well, I'd like to explain why I'm a bit fascinated. I relative of mine raced i rally when I grew up. My father helped him and I was always fascinated about how all the stuff worked to get the car running. The race had some thrills but the really fun part was the cars.

In the 90's I tried myself to do some racing but found out quite quickly how expensive it is if you don't have enough sponsors, so my career was short but fun.

In 1995 I was at Imola and watched F1. To me it was the whole experience that was the thing. But most of all to see and hear the cars for real was to me almost a sexual thrill. The sound, the smell, the speed all was just WOW!

I've also been a mechanic in a Dragracing team in the late 90's. It's the same. The interest in how to get the car to go faster that fascinates.

I hope I didn't bore you with this post.

Not boring at all!! I actually really enjoyed reading that, I love hearing people’s stories. It’s not often you hear non sexual stories on the threads ( especially over here on my one ) I’m always interested! Trying out racing in the 90s must have been so cool, no matter how short lived, I admire that! The cost side of it makes total sense though, motorsport isn’t exactly forgiving when it comes to finances without proper backing. and being at Imola in 95?? Super freaking cool!
