Weekend Watchlist + A Little Tease for Youā€¦šŸ–¤

šŸ¦‡ Letā€™s start with the disappointing part of my weekend before I inevitably turn this whole thing hornyā€¦. Last night I went to see Ballerina, directed by Len Wiseman and set within the John Wick universe. It had every opportunity to shine.
Ana de Armas takes the lead as Eve, a trained ballerina-turned-assassin seeking revenge for her fatherā€™s murder. But, despite her range and on-screen magnetism (Blonde, Knives Out, No Time to Die, sheā€™s brilliant in all of them), is given next to no lines. Keanu Reeves reprising his role as Wick, was the reason I wanted to see it, but it seemed he only had a little 30 min feature. It really does deserve the 77% rotten tomatoes reviews. ( Iā€™m such a movie ā€œratingā€ whore that I review EVERY new movie. ) so to cleanse our palettes we decided to stay late at the cinema and watch Dangerous Animals (new shark horror), that honestly had no business being as good as it was. (The Shallows, disappointed me, also better then 47 meters down). What starts off as a sun-drenched boat trip ( yes, typical) quickly spirals into claustrophobic, nerve-wracking terror.

šŸ¦‡The acting is surprisingly tight. The lead, played by Odessa Aā€™zion, brings just enough grit to keep you invested without tipping into melodrama. The pacing is taut, and the water scenes are genuinely stressful , though Iā€™ll admit, I have a very irrational fear of sharks. (So yes, I was jumping and turning my face from the screen šŸ¤£. More than once. Youā€™re welcome for that mental image.)
