The state of Wisconsin flipped the makeup of its Supreme Court tonight, from 4-3 conserative to 4-3 liberal with the election of judge Janet Protasiewicz.

The ultraconservative ultrarestrictive abortion law being challenged in lower courts has virtually no chance of surviving at the new Supreme Court. Twenty years of gerrymandered congressional seats appears to be at an end as well.

College students, long the bane of the white patriarchy in Wisconsin, turned out in huge numbers and voted for Janet Protasiewicz by a 4-1 margin, allowing Protasiewicz to essentially coast to a 54-46% victory that polls had rated a "toss up".

Gen Z voters appear to be taking no prisoners. This does not bode well for aging Boomer-addled MAGA nation.

They better fucking vote. It's their future.

The anti-voting propaganda is strong and many don't feel their votes count. Which is true considering that most eligible voters don't actively vote.

State Republicans made it exceptionally difficult for students to vote in this election. Their plan to require students to return to their home counties to vote failed, so they deliberately restricted the number of voting machines on campuses, resulting in extremely long lines and long wait times.

Gen Z voters took it in stride, and installed the first liberal Supreme Court in 15 years.

Now let's see it nationwide.

The reality is that the youth votes dropped from 31% as a high in 2018 to 27% after Roe fell.

I don't trust the youth to show up. They need to, but they've bought the anti-voting propaganda.

The margin of victory, (if it holds up,) should fill the RWCJ “members” with fear for 2024. I watch these things very closely, and the margin of victory truly surprised me

I suspect that ^ margin is a result of older Deplorable voters finally dying off, and younger Decent voters finally becoming more politically involved.

Let’s hope that ^ is the case going forward (especially in 2024) in ALL states.

As long as Republicans oppose birth and gun control as rabidly as they do, they are going down in future elections. Sticking with Trump won't help them either. Republicans, the stubbornly crazy, suicidal party.

Protasiewicz's opponent, Frank Kelly (a former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice) gave an ugly non-concession speech tonight. "I wish that I could say I lost to a worthy opponent...but my opponent was not 'worthy'....Good luck, Wisconsin, I suspect you're going to need it" (paraphrasing).

Dan Kelly.

And yeah, the POS stayed true to their Deplorable persona. - A poor LOSER, but still a LOSER.

And I don't trust you. So I guess it all washes out in the laundry. Worry about fixing your state before worrying about other states

Fix Florida????

🙄

I’m guessing you never lived in Florida???

“Flee Florida” would be my advice.

Turnout in Wisconsin's hotly contest Supreme Court race broke the previous record high set for spring elections that don't coincide with a presidential primary.

Turnout had already surpassed 36% of the voting-age population, with more than 10% of votes yet to be counted. The previous high was 34% set in the 2011 race won by Justice David Prosser that came in the heat of the Act 10 union rights debate.
More than 1.7 million people cast ballots in the race this year, besting the 1.6 million that cast ballots in the 2020 race when there was also a presidential primary. Turnout that year was 35%.

This is a prime demonstration that even the smallest increases in voter turnout really can make a difference. People bitch and whine about voting not mattering. But here we have a freaking 36% turnout (ouch, just fucking ouch - it's gut wrenching that this is something to be proud of) and the WI supreme court flips.

Imagine what would happen if we actually got to 60%? What would the primaries look like then? Imagine even an increase to 80% in the generals.

Yeah, tell me again that voting doesn't matter.

And it's still a sad statement that 36% of eligible voters is a record.

Makes me glad I left. But to be honest it was taxes and that moron governor Evers that made the decision easy.

The question is, will Rob now move into his newfound communist utopia?
