And now I'm depressed. I should know better by now. My story goes up, it gets some nice votes and I think happy thoughts. Then I think to myself, 'some of these nice people have written stories too. Get reading'.

So I do.

Instant depression. Mid-table obscurity, here I come again! I've read a few, a lot more to read, but there are some powerful good stories out there. Memo to self: Be inspired, not depressed! Self: Well, I'll try . . .

Relax, Alex. It's out of all our hands now, the stories are out there and there's no bringing them back.

I don't know if that's any consolation, but it works for me when I keep in mind that I did all that I could to write the best story that I could offer at the time, and that no matter how the contest goes I'm still a winner because I reached deep inside myself and created a masterpiece in my own mind.

If you have the same opinion of your story, your mind will be at ease.

My story just went up last night but quickly got enough votes to qualify. I don't know how many times it has been trolled so far. I believe the 25th vote was a one-bomb and there have been at least two besides that. Most of them didn't bother to leave any comment but that was more than compensated for by this intellectual, well-crafted missive. I will always be grateful for the deep thought and hard work that went into this excellent critique.
