Cecile Richards, the president of Planned Parenthood, clashed with House Republicans on Tuesday as she defended her organization’s ethics and the legality of its work during an emotional hearing on Capitol Hill over its use of federal funds.

Cecile Richards, the president of Planned Parenthood, insisted the organization has not broken the law, an accusation it faced after embarrassing undercover video surfaced this summer that showed executives nonchalantly discussing fetal tissue donations. She fought back against allegations that Planned Parenthood profits from such donations and espoused its efforts to provide healthcare for women.

“Planned Parenthood has been in the news recently because of deceptively edited videos released by a group that is dedicated to making abortion illegal in this country,” said Richards. “This is just the most recent in a long line of discredited attacks.”

Conservative Republicans have criticized the family planning nonprofit after the videos, produced by Center for Medical Progress, an Irvine-based anti-abortion group, were released this summer. Some in Congress have advocated shutting down the federal government if more funds are allocated to Planned Parenthood for abortion. The organization receives federal funds for abortions only in cases where a woman’s life is endangered or she was impregnated as a result of rape or incest.

Planned Parenthood also uses federal funds to provide birth control, cancer screenings and testing of sexually transmitted infections, Richards said. She said just 1% of health centers in Planned Parenthood’s network facilitate donations for fetal tissue research.

David Daleiden, founder of the Center for Medical Progress has the gall to accuse Planned Parenthood of deceit.

“Mr. Daleiden’s goals for the past three years was to entrap Planned Parenthood into selling fetal tissue for profit,” said Cummings. Daleiden was not invited to testify by Chaffetz, who said he has subpoenaed for access to the full, unedited videos but that litigation in California is preventing their release.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) hoisted his banner

"...he put up a chart showing the rate of abortions increasing at the clinics while the number of "life-saving procedures" performed decreased."
"Nobody seemed to know where the chart came from."
"Cecile Richards said it was inaccurate.
"Cecile Richards's attorney finally leaned over and cleared it up."
Cecile Richards said-

"My lawyer's informing me the source is Americans United for Life, which is an anti-abortion group."

"So you might want to check your source."

Dem accuses GOP of 'misogyny' at hearing on Planned Parenthood
09/29/15

Rep Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) slammed House Republicans for their treatment of Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards during her first appearance on Capitol Hill Tuesday.

Connolly decried the “disrespect" and "misogyny" that he said Richards has faced from Republicans during a more than three-hour hearing. He berated his colleagues for being “rude” and wasting Richards’s speaking time.

The Virginia Democrat's remarks offered a brief respite from the heated exchanges between Richards and other GOP members of the committee.

Several members, including Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Cynthia Lummis (R-Wy.), spoke over Richards as she tried to respond to questions, preventing her from answering before her time elapsed.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) also sharply criticized Richards for her annual salary of more than $500,000.

Connolly accused of hypocrisy those who question Planned Parenthood’s motives.

“This is not about some bogus video,” Connolly said. “This is about a conservative philosophy that says … we believe in individualism and personal liberty. There’s an asterisk in that assertion … when it comes to women and controlling their own bodies and making their own health decisions.

WATCH: Out of control congressman badgers and interrupts Planned Parenthood head 19 times in 5 minutes

In a badgering and bullying performance that would have made House of Un-American activities interrogator Roy Cohn proud, a Republican congressman from Ohio interrupted the head of Planned Parenthood 19 times in five short minutes in a hearing on Tuesday.

Appearing at the GOP-led witchhunt — coordinated between virulent anti-abortion extremists and hard right conservatives — Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards repeatedly came under attack from the Republican-dominated committee.

Richards was invited to appear to answer questions about the highly-edited Planned Parenthood videos created by the anti-choice activists to force lawmakers to shut off funding to the healthcare providers that mainly serves low income women.

When Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan had his opportunity to perform for the cameras, he wasted no time going after Richards and bullying her over a statement she made immediately following the release of the first edited video.

Carly Fiorina is more dangerous than Donald Trump
SEP 29, 2015

On Sunday, Carly Fiorina went on “Meet the Press“ and gave more evidence that she has become the most dangerous demagogue in the Republican primary field.

http://www.salon.com/2015/09/29/car...ump_her_brazen_demagoguery_puts_his_to_shame/

Asked why she’s sticking to the well-documented fictions she keeps telling about the infamous Planned Parenthood videos, Fiorina smiled like a shark, shook her head, condescended to and talked over Todd, and reiterated with all the assurance of a champion bullshit artist that yes, there is no question that “Planned Parenthood is aborting fetuses alive to harvest their brains and other body parts. That is a fact.”

It is useless to point out how many times this garbage has been debunked. Fiorina not only either believes it or can convincingly pretend to, but she also gives the antiabortion movement on the right some additional credibility. While one expects, say, former Baptist minister Mike Huckabee’s strident antiabortion rhetoric, Fiorina does not wear her religion on her sleeve. Nor does she, as nearly every other candidate does, come from a legislative background where she has wrestled with the abortion issue. She can plausibly claim to be a secular true believer, making antiabortion positions not just the province of evangelicals and other religious conservatives.

http://www.latimes.com/business/hil...eps-getting-more-extreme-20150927-column.html

Todd started by asking her to defend her assertion, during the Sept. 16 GOP candidates' debate, that the doctored videotapes distributed by the anti-abortion Center for Medical Progress showed "a fully formed fetus on the table, its heart beating, its legs kicking, while someone says, 'We have to keep it alive to harvest its brain.'"

This scene does not appear in the videotapes targeting Planned Parenthood. A clip in one video shows a fetus moving, but the anti-abortion Center for Bio-Ethical Reform, which provided it to CMP, doesn't identify its source and doesn't claim it's from a Planned Parenthood facility. Neither organization has provided documentation that the image is of an aborted fetus. A second shot of a fetus in the same tape came from a stillbirth, not an abortion. The line Fiorina quoted is not heard on any of the released tapes.

Todd asked her, "Are you willing now to concede that you exaggerated that scene?"

Fiorina: "No, not at all. That scene absolutely does exist. And that voice saying what I said they were saying, 'We're going to keep it alive to harvest its brain' exists as well....

Todd: "So you saw that moment on the tape?"

Fiorina: "Yes."

That's bluster on a Trumpian scale. There's no such scene on the tape to which she's referring, no such audio, and her campaign hasn't identified any.

But then Fiorina went even further, claiming, "Planned Parenthood is aborting fetuses alive to harvest their brains and other body parts. That is a fact." She added, "Planned Parenthood will not and cannot deny this because it is happening. It is happening in this nation."
