windows xp and a new pc

hey yall... i just got a new pc yesterday that has windows xp and was wondering if anyone else here has that system? its totally different from win 98.....i know I am so far behind in technology, its not even funny! how do yall like xp? has anyone had any severe problems with it? thanks, shy

I love XP, it's so bubbly and easy to use.

The only problem I've had, which really isn't too much of a problem, is that MSN won't let me turn my cam on with anyone that doesn't have XP.

What kind of PC did you get?

windows xp can drive you nuts if you let it....
I recently was in the same situation as you are now. And i've had several crashes since then. Mainly, because xp has a different file system then the previous window systems. Be careful of your older programs. They can mess with xp and make your system crash. My solution to the endless crashes after months of experience was to keep updating my older programs. and only load that were compatible with xp. So disappointed I've got XP, but no cam - otherwise you could see the rain in Normandy, Wiggles.

And the Norman conquerors - like Obelisk, theyr'e everywhere, like the cows.

I am using XP pro. I like it better than any edition of windows with one exception.

I gotta get a new DSL modem because the old one doesn't like XP and Alcatel isn't going to revise the driver (or so I am told).

It's still Microsoft crap though.

thank yall for replying. I just got a new gateway pc with the flatmonitor and I am loving it! I have only had it for 2 days but so far so good.... my old (readlder than time) pc froze up EVERY time I would go online, and then quit working all toghether (peice of shit) so i decided to splurge. So far so good (knock on wood)

I was extremely hesitant to switch, I had a system with win98 running crash free for over 3 years. I am running XP pro right now and so far so good (about 6 months) First thing I did was change the appearance to 'classic' windows though..hehe. I like SOME icons on my desktop etc...but it seems ok so far.

Exactly. Brilliant technology, impecable interface...

Oh, and it's more secure than a postcard. Xp on the other hand....

XP IS CRAP, its not stable , secure and those coloured interfaces drize me crazy. The guy who wrote all those Goddam wizards need to be put up aagainst a wall and shot .

Example: The CD creation wizard, that wouldn't let my burning prog (Nero) use the CD-RW, XP wanted to handle all the burning duties and then proceeded to eat CD's. Everytime I put a CD in the CD-RW, windows wanted to try and burn data to it, whether I wanted to do a burn or not. Even if I was wanting to read the disk, Windows tried in vain to burn it.

So, in my opinion, XP SUX. Windows 2000 Pro is the one to go with, secure, stable and on a T-Brid 1330 with 512 meg of Ram, fucken fast.

And, as you said you bought a Gateway (sigh), I'll say no more about that.
