Goddam, Nadal down in straight sets. He really didn't look like himself. I'm not a huge tennis fan, but Lady P has been getting me interested. For Darcis to knock him out in the first round suddenly makes the tournament seem a lot more interesting, even if Rafa was obviously injured. Also, what does it say about Nadal that he can still can play at such an incredible level on one fucking leg?

I suspect that the French Open wore Nadal down— or, at least, took off some of his edge.

I really would like to see Andy Murray finally pull off a Wimbledon victory.

[Andy Murray] become the first male British player to reach the final of Wimbledon since Bunny Austin in 1938. In the final, he faced Federer, but after taking the first set, he lost the match in four sets.

The odds are not high but I think he's worked hard and is deserving. I just discovered that Murray was born with a bipartite patella that continues to cause problems ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Murray#Murray_vs._Nadal ).

Nadal is just frickin' amazing. Have you looked at those forearms? They're like Popeye's. His "buggy whip" stroke is unbelievable. He puts TWICE as much spin on the ball as anybody else— that's actually been measured. I've seen him hit a ball that, quite literally, curved around the damn post holding the net up and land in the court. That's obnoxious.

I still like Federer just for his cool, precise style. It's like watching a master swordsman.

Curling the ball around the post? That's like Dr. J famously leaping behind the backboard along the baseline and then dunking the ball. Wtf?

Actually, it also reminds me of lunchtime whiffle ball games during my years in the shipping room. We set up a piece of cardboard behind home plate and if the ball went through the hole, it was a strike. A few of us got to where we could curve the ball behind the batter and still sail cleanly through the "strike zone." The impossible pitch.

hey I'm just happy that Hewitt pulled off a bit of an upset (and thats the extent of my knowledge)

Goddam indeed. If I'd been there I would have run nekkid onto the court and offered him some mouth to mouth...

I will glance at womens tennis provided nipple erections are visible. If they want any more attention than that they will need to play nude.:)

I like tennis. Some of the best athletes in the world in terms of conditioning and stamina.

I had the highlights show on when I was in the shower. When I came out I thought the cat had put the Adult Channel on. Never heard such fucking shrieking and yelping.

Murray had the capability of winning anyway but with only Ferer standing in his way of note, surely this year.....

Definitely.

The last time I got super excited about tennis was the final between Rafter and Ivanisevic. I think they were rained off so it was a Monday and I rang in sick with a mystery bug so I could watch it.

Remember Connors and McEnroe? Those were the days.

Unfortunately, I do.

John McEnroe has done more to destroy good sportsmanship in the game of tennis than anybody.

His behavior was abominable. He was (and is) a perfect jerk who ought to have been thrown out of the sport.

Don't forget Mcenroe and Bjorn Borg.

The sports classic channel had their matches on last week, I remember watching as a kid because my mom liked dudes with long hair.

He was fabulous. And never, ever dull.

Connors was as much the obnoxious asshole as Mac.

People selectively forget and today, Connors is the epitome of tennis sportsmanship.

I agree. In his youth, he was as obnoxious as McEnroe. Unlike McEnroe, he eventually grew up.

McEnroe, on the other hand, remains a jerk. Just two years ago, I was disgusted to see him throw a hissy fit in a televised team competition. I have nothing but contempt for anybody who behaves that way. It's absolutely inexcusable.
