you don't put the URL in exactly as it appears at the place you're linking the image from.
You remote link from a sight that doesn't allow remote linking.
You link to a site with a download limit, which shuts off the link when the limit is reached.
Etc...
The safest bet is to save the image file to your webspace (if you have a web page, that's where your webspace is.) and link from there. That would ensure the image is available, unless your webspace has a limit to how much stuff is downloaded from your site. Webservice providers to this to keep comercial site from getting away with using a personal webspace.
