Will Halloween be different this year?

It's October 1st. No time like the present to think about the end of the month!

Who's going to a Halloween party? Have you decided on a costume yet? Will it be patriotic? George Washington? Uncle Sam? Betsy Ross?

Do you wear timely costumes - e.g., in association with movies or tv shows or people in the news? About 4 years ago a good friend of mine dressed up in a navy blazer, white shirt, red tie and a black wig. He carried one of those Mr. Microphones. Oh yes, in lieu of pants, he wore fishnet stockings and high heels. The logo on his jacket said NBC. He attached a set of those chattering dentures to his back. Still stumped? He went as sportscaster Marv Albert! ;)

Too much work for my taste but very clever and creative!

So, what about you?

And, as a totally different subject- any special precautions that you will take as far as rules for trick or treating this year?

I guess that any costume with a turban is out for a few years,
.

getting some real live fangs to wear
will look like a cross between uncle fester the lost boys and a bad ass biker vampire
head shaved white make up black eyes and mirrored raybans
and a full length leather coat
so no change from normal really

Outsider - I think you're right!

pablo- the object is to dress up so as to look different from what you wear to work! ;)

I bet there will be lots of patriotic themes- for instance firemen, policemen, soldiers.

and the girls could wear Red Cross outfits...etc

Don't you think that's a little sexist, hon? The girls could wear police or firefighters outfits, too, ya know- I for one would love to find some sexy police digs for Halloween ;)

heh, it's free candy, i'll do anything.

i'm going as a jester to the party after trick-or-treating with my lil' sis.

Well, I didn't mean it to sound sexist, "hon"! :) LOL
But you're absolutely right! Women can be all those things.

You did frighten me at the end- I misread your post and thought you said you'd love to find some sexy police DOGS for Halloween! LOL

Halloween costume party for me...every year.

This year I am going as a goth-vampire-princess of darkness type chick. Long black dress slit all the way up the thigh....farther up than I am comfortable with anyway. Black thigh high fishnets and strapy heels.

Dramatic makeup and hair (Kasha...suggestions??)

Other than that....who knows. *grin*

Lol- sorry I called you hon- just trying to soften up the comment so you wouldn't be insulted or offended...
And no- I meant digs as in clothes- definitely NOT dogs!!! :)

I want to go as Rolland from Stephen King's Dark Tower series, but because of all thats happend I don't know if I can. Rolland's guns are such an intricate part of the costume and without those it would not be such an original idea. I have not thrown it out entirely just have it setting on the back burner for now.

you mean you guys wear COSTUMES to win at those parties?

I'll be going to a drunken bonfire up here in the winter wonderland .... so my 'warm' costume will be a Victorian-era woman - lots of layers... but an awesome purse..

I am going cheap this year, since it won't be a costume I can re-use. I am just getting a black sweat suit, and a feather boa. I will cute the boa into small sections to use on the cuffs, and neck line, and the left over for a tail. Then, put my hair in triangular buns (It is nice having a mother in law who is a beautician), and painting a nose n whiskers on my face. Overall, it will only cost me like $7 for the sweat suit, and 5 for the boa. And I can re-use the sweat suit for the rest of the pregnancy.

My plans from before I got pregnant are more detailed. I wanted to make a harem costume, and make it from some gorgeous (expensive) sheer material. But, that will have to wait till next year.

Kids are gonna be Tigger n Ariel, from Little Mermaid. Both hand made, so they are going to be able to be re-used in good shape in up-coming years.

i'm going to be the same thing i was last year... a poor college student that has to go take an exam... at least i'll have a good bday to make up for it (its 2 days later and on a friday this year)

I haven't decided what to wear to work this year. I am still debating.

My son wanted to be Link for the video game--this iw waht inspired me to whip out the sewing machine about 6 weeks ago--been sewing like crazy ever since.

The costume came out great--he has a long green tunic, brown "boots" with loosly-woven canvass soles, a hat, and a trick-or-treat bag to keep the costume in. He has slept in it repeatedly since then. It is great when one is able to fulfill her child's playtime-fantasy once in a while.

I'll post a pic if I can get around to it.

Oh yeah--my kid wants blond hair for the costume--it just occurred to me that we could bleach it out for the night, huh? Then buzz it off when tired of it. Hhhhmmmm....

Go to a Sally's Beauty Supply store, or someting similiar that sells salon supplies, and get a bottle of Temparary Color in blond. They sell huge bottles for like $4 is all.

My mother in law ordered Copper so we can 'dye' my 5 year olds hair dark red for the night. It washes out in one wash, and is rather easy to use. It is just a liquid that you 'wash' into the hair. Do it in the bath tub, or over a sink, cause it has the consistancy of water, so it drips. It can be put on wet, or dry hair. If it is wet, it doesn't take as well, though.

Have fun!

My husband wanted us to dress up as Uncle Sam and Betsy Ross but that would get a little costly... So, what did we decide:
Drew Carey and Mimi!! LOL I'll have to share a picture when available..

My kids are going to be:
Mikey 3 y/o - James the Red Engine
Olivia 2 y/o - Thomas the Tank Engine
Benjamin 1 y/o - a pirate

No precautions other than flashlights, holding hands and no candy until it's been checked!!

beware of that stuff... i had a friend dye hers green for something (i dont remember what) and it wouldnt wash out.. her hair was green for almost 6 months before it finally faded..

To get a little off subject here, but I was wondering...If we will be haunted with the Lit pumpkins again this year???

We usually dressup at work...not really sure, but I think I have Halloween off this year. And since I don't get too many kids I don't dressup at home.

I think my grandson is going as Tigger this year. He's 3 and is now able to say "trick or treat" so it should be fun taking him out this year.

During my first pregnancy, i bought a big, flowing black dress at the salvation army, cut a hole in the bodice so my belly stuck out, and painted it like a jack-o-lantern... everyone thought it was hysterical.

My 4 year old wants to be a vampire princess... not entirely sure how to pull that off... teeth and a tiara?

My 18 month old is probably going to be a fairy so she can use a costume i already have.

I have no idea what I'm going as... I didn't dress up last year to take the kids trick or treating... but this year we're having our annual bonfire on halloween instead of after it and costumes are mandatory... any suggestions?

Do like an all black body suit or some kind of all black dress. Find some kind of little crown and paint her face pale with some teeth. That would be a pretty good vampire princess.

Friends of mine run the local haunted house every year...and always have those kind of Halloween parties where body parts are sticking out of the punch bowls and eye balls are suspended from the ceiling...

And I was thinking that perhaps it's not really apropos in these times to throw such a party.

I'm thinking they should go spooky...black lights, fog machines and spider webs, instead.

I was planning to arrive as a dead ballerina...but now I'm not even sure of that kind of costume.

Maybe a Super Hero costume would be a better idea..
