No surprise that the Obamacare web site and exchanges are not working

Goverment is bad at doing business functions

And when you have a President who has never worked at a job where he is judged on merit; you can expect disaster.

In the business world, Obama and Michelle would be janitors.

I thought your post deserves a reasoned response, so here it is.

Fuck off, dumbass.

Ummm..... the Obamacare web site was built by a private company.

...it's like these guys live under a rock or something.

No you didn't. Nobody saw this coming and no the government doesn't suck at business functions. That's something we're told and lot of us believe but that's mostly because we're stupid.

Ok..the only part here that is valid is that Obama has no business (or executive) experience.

I wouldn't expect him to have IT expertise as to what combination of hardware and software will be needed to build a good interface with the public.

ANY president would need to delegate that.

Where this president failed is two fold:

One, he allowed this to be built by a firm that became a revolving door for government cronism on a no-bid contract. That is never a good way to get value when there is graft.

Two the PEOPLE he delegated two were inept. Without knowing them at all I could have (reasonably) guessed they were NOT the best and brightest in their field. Three head GOVERNMENT I.T. people are associated with this mess.

Just because it is a stereotype that in government bureaucracies the mediocre rise to the top, doesn't make it untrue. If these people had genuine talent the WOULD be working in the private sector already for good salaries, not using the step ladder of bureaucracy to rise, then taking a lateral through coruption into the TOP of a private sector company. Profit motives though scorned by some DO tend to weed out the wheat from the chaff.

It is true that having never run anything, and having had people patting him on the head all his life telling him how smart and interesting his ideas (or others he parrots) are...he has no experience knowing how to judge competence. If one of those flatterers in his inner circle says so-and-so is ideal for this job, how would he have any idea if they were or were not? Especially in a field he knows nothing about.

And no, The Obamas would never be relegated to menial labor. In industry thanks to HR departments irrational fear of lawsuits bright and personable people of any color with a piece of paper in hand from an institution of higher learning WILL be fast-tracked to management.

Some will succeed because they ARE bright, and capable. Some will fail, and their failures will be excused and they will be promoted into a lucrative area where they will do no harm. Business must succeed or die.

Oh and by the way, Michelle would be Barack's boss. She checks two boxes. This is the real world.

Why don't you move back to Israel?

Right of return and all that happy horseshit?

Living in America just seems to put a heavy toll on your whiny ass.

NOBODY saw the complexity of this interface and the scant (but WAY over-priced) resources being thrown at it? Nobody?

If true, sounds like NOBODY asked people who do that sort of thing for a living.

What "business function" does government do well?

What former government function that has been privatized cosst more and was run more inefficiently thereafter?

...it's like these guys live under a rock or something.

It was built by a private Canadian company ( - YAY.......outsourcing! gimme an O gimme a U...gimme a T)

They had been fired from building websites for the Canadian Government. They formed a US based subsidiary, hired high level US government IT position bureaucrats in exchange for being given a no-bid contract. Understand that though for obvious reasons bureaucrats don't support less government tea party ideals they come from all walks of life and survive REGARDLESS of whether there is a D or an R after their nominal bosses name...they answer to themselves not politicians in the long haul. Politicians fuck with them at their peril as they can gum up the works quite easily.

Lets pretend that there was NO corruption involved here (and that ISN'T a dem rep thing...both parties feed and live off it)

Lets say someone in Silicon Valley made a new high-tech start-up with private capital and spent dollar for dollar the amount that Obama-care website cost and produced this result, it would likely be the largest loss of capital in a start-up of that type, ever. That presumes (which isn't the case) that you had to throw it all away and start over from scratch- like if the government simply refused to pay them one dollar for their work so far. Now they MAY fix this, but my guess is the fix will cost more than we are in it already.

Any guesses on whether this well connected firm will be paid even MORE to 'fix' this?

...I probably should have objected to the thread title as well...

s/b "Why is the ObamaCare WEBSITE not working."

In some ways it is lucky for the administration that it does not work. We won't know what people will feel about the pricing (including co-pays and deductibles) because no one can get in to take a look. (Some conspiracy fans - backed by preliminary IT analysis - have it down to 'by design' - no pun intended they postulate it is meant NOT to let people through who will get bad news, yet.)

As far as whether ObamaCare itself "works" you have to go back to it's intended effect. It is intended to collapse the private insurance market...That was supposed to be a gradual slide to acceptance of single payer...

It DOES seem like it might "succeed" in that objective too soon to be seen as anything but a sham, but its too early to tell.

http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/investor-relations/political-contributions-080334.pdf

This is the parent company for the software on the website that is causing issues. This document came from their website and shows the political disclosure for the 2012 year. Notice...it prefers to contribute to the Republican Party at the National Level, while contribute to the Democratic Party at the State Level (depending on what state they donate to). Given "Obamacare" is not a state legislation, but federal, one could say that Oracle prefers to donate more money to those that oppose the law than those that support it. So whom do you blame for a website that fails? The contractor, or the entity that contracted the contractor?

A couple of years ago I dated an Iranian woman who worked for Oracle. By far, she was the most beautiful woman I've ever known. Sadly, she was transferred to Doha last year.

True story.

shut the front door, obama outsource! what a government fucktard
