Why Obamacare is not working

NOBODY saw the complexity of this interface and the scant (but WAY over-priced) resources being thrown at it? Nobody?

If true, sounds like NOBODY asked people who do that sort of thing for a living.

What "business function" does government do well?

What former government function that has been privatized cosst more and was run more inefficiently thereafter?

It was built by a private Canadian company ( - YAY.......outsourcing! gimme an O gimme a U...gimme a T)

They had been fired from building websites for the Canadian Government. They formed a US based subsidiary, hired high level US government IT position bureaucrats in exchange for being given a no-bid contract. Understand that though for obvious reasons bureaucrats don't support less government tea party ideals they come from all walks of life and survive REGARDLESS of whether there is a D or an R after their nominal bosses name...they answer to themselves not politicians in the long haul. Politicians fuck with them at their peril as they can gum up the works quite easily.

Lets pretend that there was NO corruption involved here (and that ISN'T a dem rep thing...both parties feed and live off it)

Lets say someone in Silicon Valley made a new high-tech start-up with private capital and spent dollar for dollar the amount that Obama-care website cost and produced this result, it would likely be the largest loss of capital in a start-up of that type, ever. That presumes (which isn't the case) that you had to throw it all away and start over from scratch- like if the government simply refused to pay them one dollar for their work so far. Now they MAY fix this, but my guess is the fix will cost more than we are in it already.

Any guesses on whether this well connected firm will be paid even MORE to 'fix' this?

All of that and more. Looking at it from merely a 'project' perspective there is/was so much wrong with the concept so as to make it a near "Mission Impossible" implementation.

This was sold to the public as "just like going to Amazon.com" to buy your insurance. And I suspect that the clueless administrators and bureaucrats actually believed this to be true. The ObamaCare websites have very little in common with Amazon, Ebay, Overstocked, or any of the other consumer websites.

These consumer sites qualify the purchaser only by their ability to pay. The database layouts are fairly straightforward and keyword driven. The consumer is given ALL possible choices that may fit the search terms entered and allowed to make a decision based on price and vendor. The ObamaCare site fully qualifies the 'consumer' using all sorts to metrics that require that the site communicates with 5 different bureaucratic entities, all of which have their own systems, none of which were designed with interoperability in mind, and virtually all of which use archaic technology. Based on the fully qualified, and presumably verified, data entered by the consumer, the consumer is then given their potential choices. Choices that range over a variety of vendors qualified by the particular state the consumer lives in. The decision tree to the software is as mindboggling as it is convoluted.

Add to the above that the regs. associated with ObamaCare were not fully in place and even those that were in place were changing on an almost daily basis (still are for that matter). Which means that every module associated with enforcing any particular portion of the regs were in a perpetual state of rewrite. Without stable design specs it's impossible to properly engineer ANY project. It's no wonder that the code reads like a stream of consciousness rant from a demented mind.

The fact that the bureaucrats overseeing the project were clueless and the company chosen to implement the project was/is of questionable technical ability is just frosting on the fallen cake.

The problems are structural, not the load sensitivity that the government is trying to sell everyone.

Still though..why is Obamacare the target when our entire government is broken? Why is this the priority target for conservatives when it's really just one more piece of the big government puzzle? Why isn't the black intelligence budget discussed, or closing some of our over 700 military installations, or homeland security, or the IRS, or mis management of the us postal service, or congressional pay and on and on...why is it just this one thing?

Our government is a lot less broken than people would have you believe.
