Why is Bill Gates buying farmland across America?

I'm interested in your opinions, Bill Gates supporters or adversaries alike.

Bill Gates is now the biggest private owner of farmland in the United States​

For me, as a non-fan, this is some seriously fucked up shit.
I want farms to be owned by local small farmers, not by monopolies. Don't they own monopolies on food distribution or whatever already?

You put it well. Some strange worrisome shit is happening all over the world:

Third world countries on the brink of famine due to the Ukraine-Russia clusterfuck.
Dutch farmers were mandated by EU to use nitro fertiliser, and now they are losing their land precisely because of that fertiliser. Australasian farmers are losing their livelihoods cause governments want to preserve the native bush.
Climate mitigation is great, but nobody is protecting the small farmers' livelihoods, and it seems like the richest are getting richer

Houses and many rents have become unaffordable,
because local AND Chinese investors own even more than 5 houses in Canada, Australasia and the US
generation Z will be generation forever rent

Friend of a friend was a farm manager for an insurance compnay on a 50,000 acre tract in eastern NC. I imagine that it only got bigger.


Unless they sold out to Monsanto.


Haven't talked to those boys in a couple/three . . . decades . . . .
