I just finished reading the story of how Hephaestus built a net like trap to catch Aphrodite and Ares in the middle of their adultrous act. When they climbed in bed together, the trap sprung and they were bound together unable to move (who would really want to:D ). But not only did Hephaestus trap them, but he called out the other gods to come and look at his "catch" and they all had a good laugh and etc.

Man, I wouldn't mind being trapped in bed with my own Aphrodite. I hope that story's in the final, it'll make the day less dull.

hey hey, first person to comment about that. Good good.

I named both my daughters from Gree mythology. My fist daughter is Dayanara, after the wife of Hercules, and my second daughter is Persephone, the godess of spring. I wish there was a career where I could major in mythology!

Persephone was also Queen of the Underworld. Not by choice however . . .

And there is a career. Research along the lines of Anthropology, or the standard teaching.

I couldn't teach. I don't have the paitence for it! I wouldn't mind working on anthropolgy, but I don't know how practical it would be for me. It would be nice though!

BTW- she was also the daughter of Mother Nature. I love that myth and I have it memorized, almost word for word!

Yea, I'll name my first son Prince Jedi Elvis.

Yep, Demeter . . . Myth was such a fun class, but not something I'd want to develop past a hobby. Astronomy is more my game.

There are no jobs in Anthro. Trust me I know I've looked. Or at least it's very difficult to find jobs with an Anthropology Degree.

I like creation myths myself. You really get an idea of how a society thinks by their creation myths.

When I was teaching my favorite workshop to lead was on basic constellation identification, using Greek, Egyptian and Chinese mythology. I loved exploring the mythological themes with my students and relating them to modern soap opera dramas (not that we know anything of such things here at Lit, ahem...) and how there really, truly is absolutely nothing new under the sun.

There's the whole theorist end of it. That could be job worthy (or at least cult worthy)

I love mythology, especially Greek mythology. Being Greek myself, i always gravitated towards it...my favorite story is the Odyssey...so awesome, with man vs. the Gods. Such a great tale. That Hephaestus story is actually in the first few books of the Odyssey.

I always wanted to name my first born son Thor. I think i'll have to settle for naming my dog Thor though:D

But the theory doesn't mean anything without field observations. Besides the world doesn't need another Desmond Morris :D

Don't get me wrong, I loved Anthro. I enjoyed the course load and material. If I had to do it all over again I would have gone the Physical Anthro route rather then Cultural. It would have lead to forensics and that would have been cool  Man I could have been one of those CSI guys!

Well for me it is. Life had other career plans for me. To go back now would be another 4-5 years of school to get the Masters or PhD.
Now it's just a hobby. I like to try to keep up with some of the new Hominid findings. Just to keep my edge from dulling.

I wanted to name my second daughter Pandora but my husband wouldn't let me. So that's what I named my cat!:)

I've always been partial to the name Persephone, well really Kore. I just rolls off the tongue well.

I've always liked the name Lavinia, but that's dipping into the Roman end of myth.
