Why God WHY?

What is the purpose to soap operas? I know I know you can just change the chanel. But aren't they a little... I don't know exaggerated?
It's the same basic structure... "Evil" people don't want the "good honest people" to be happy & do everything imaginable to torment them. And THEY NEVER END! In english channels these suckers go on for years! One Life to Live, All My children, etc. Then there are the spin offs... (don't ask me to name them because I don't now)
Someone's always having someone elses' child. There probably kid napping involved at some point. Some humiliation of some kind (especially if one of the protagonists has less money than the others)
In spanish it's the same freakin deal only difference is that they usually end in about a couple of months... only setback is that it's the same story line! Recycled over and over again...
Please god take me out of this hell!

22 years of living in a house where someone is always watching one soap opera or another...
That & a comercial for Passions... is there crapier acting than that?

Yes i agree to some extent but if you put them along side some of that dreadful u.s trash it does seem a little more realistic
